The Idea's great. Perhaps one could add a bit of Tom Clancy's Endwar, or whatever it's called. Use the D-Pad up to activate it, then call in the item or vehicle, etc. The info appears on-screen. Perhaps:
*press D-UP*
*Say "Warthog"*
On the side of your screen, the warthog's image pops up, along with cost and number of passengers possible, etc.
*Say, "Buy".*
If you can afford it, it buys it. If you can't, then you can either say
*Say, "Pool"*
or
*Say, "Save"*
With "Pool", your squad can put funds into it to finish paying, but you set the place.
With "Save", only you can pay, but your current funds are saved so you can add to them later.
OR, *Say, Cancel.*

Say you saved, or pooled, and you die. SUddenly, there's enough money for the 'hog. Instead of spawning and waiting, you're brought down WITH the 'hog, below the pelican. Select a spot, and you're ready to help your squad.

Pilots: Ferry vehicles, troops, etc. Across manually. Instead of 20v20, 22v22, with two dropships on either side. Manual.
In case you get an -blam!- pilot, they have to follow the waypoint. Following the waypoint, you go much faster. The farther you look from the waypoint, the slower you go. You have to go up and pick up things from the cruiser (or base) then bring them back, maybe multiple orders along the way. All you have to do is follow the waypoints.
If you're under fire, then you go "normal" speed, and you can run (fly) any direction at all, but once not under fire, you must go to the waypoint again.

Squads.
They wouldn't work too well without restrictions. I'm thinking VIP on steroids. Each member has a certain radius. If he's not connected (overlapping radii), then he moves at 150% speed, but does 10% damage and has 90% damage resistance. If your entire squad is decimated, oh, boy. Run with that extra speed. Remember, "Leave that Lone Wolf" stuff behind.
The squad leader has the "Cancel ability".
When the leader first hits the D-UP, he can access pooled things, by saying something like "Pooled". The screen brings up all pooled items. He can say, "Warthog, cancel" and all funds go back to their owners.

All players have D-UP and D-Left/Right. But leaders have D-Down, where they can talk to leaders. THey hit down, and say "Green" squad, etc. for the leader they want. That secures a private channel to that player, and deafens all other comm chatter for the two once accepted. THe Green leader now has the option to accept. His screen lights up with "Call from Blue", or something like that. He can hit down and say "Accept Call 1", etc. The two converse, then they leave by hitting down and saying "Leave Call".
This is all approximate, not exact.
