I really like this idea, and I hope they do it. But there are some problems with having it in Reach.
1. Reach comes out this year, and this would push the date back even farther.
2. This combined with the data already used for graphics, campaign, and other modes would probably overwhelm the memory on there, and take away from other experiences too, but this can be fixed by creating another disc solely for this mode and firefight (the mythic disk is an example).
3. This is straying a little far from what Reach was planned to be, but it would probably work better as a separate game.
Despite these small problems, It's a great idea, and I'll contribute some thoughts too.
(P.S. I do not mean to steal ideas.)
For a name, how about Helljumpers, because you start the level pretty much the same way that an ODST starts their own missions.
I also like the ideas of a hangar, and the drop pods(Covenant too), because these add variety to the start, and their own dangers.
Drop pods go straight to the ground, and should have an autopilot and a manual pilot. the auto would allow the pilot to focus on discussing with his teammates a strategy, while manual allows more precise landing and dodging anti air and fighters that could shoot at you. also, the start of the drop should have a map that will divide the map into colors, or sectors. Green can be your teams side of the map, where it's safe, yellow is danger for tanks and anti air, and red for the enemy base, where you have a high chance of not finishing your drop.
Also, the pods will take damage in midair, but not to your health, because you could die with a still working pod, otherwise. The explosions from tanks and anti air tanks can send the pod spinning, preventing you from knowing where you're landing. Also, if your'e a spartan you can be like the chief and jump straight out of the hangar, with your suit protecting you from the fall, but with no shields and some health lost.
Ships are stronger, but aren't direct and can be shot down easy and have more health than the pod. also, entire squads can go in a single Pelican, Phantom, Spirit, or Falcon(new vehicle that is confirmed), or grab a fighter and go directly to the battle on the offensive.
I don't think there should be a shop(if you were a solder, would you pay for standard weapons?), but instead have basic weapons like the AR, BR, needler or plasma rifle( depending on faction) on a rack, and advanced weapons and ammo shacks as well as recharge stations(for batteries) scattered around the map. But you need points to use the reloading areas.
Points can be used to buy colors, insignia, or perms
To prevent camping, just make it so that the points they own start to do down for the campers, so that they eventually don't have any points.
MAC cannons shouldn't be used, since one is usually enough to cause massive damage to a Covenant ship.
20 vs 20 is a little much, as well as 200 points, so maybe 16 on 16 and 150 points would work.
maybe after planting the bomb, the game can end with a cinematic cutscene that shows the bomb eradicating the entire ship, leaving only fragments scattered around the ground.
Also, maybe you can explore hallways in the ship to find turrets, and other things too.
maybe, there can even be skulls that award a lot of points hidden on each map.
Also, some of the levels can be
The ark, with massive changes in terrain
Delta halo, with islands scattered throughout the level
Mombassa, with urban buildings and street fights(crash your pod through buildings, too.
Reach, a combination of the levels, with deep caverns and caves, flat plains, traversible mountains, and maybe a lake.
Also, maybe there can be a way to lower the shields of the ships so you can bring the bomb onto the enemy ship, then protect it until you move it to a power core, then evacuate by stealing a drop pod, transport, fighter, or(for spartans) jump off.
Hope my ideas help!
