Ugh...

First on a BWU.. yeah, I'm cool.

ODST;MYTHIC Screenshot winner! One of the first to get their hands on the mythic map pack.

No!

What response do you think you would get if you went to a CoD forum, lets say the Modern Warfare 2 forum, and suggested that there be no classes, but instead, there are weapons placed on the map, and you have to go and run to get those weapons to get an advantage.

Everyone spawns with the same weapons.

What do you think the reaction would be?

He just said not customizable. CoD isn't really classes, just different starting weapons. The entire point of this thread just flew right over your head.

no no no it just wouldnt work with halo's game play(you better put on a fireproff suit on because there's probobly a blaze come'n yor way)

Tell that to MLG Cheehwawa. If he see's this thread he'll be happy to show everyone his classes idea. And it's really good.

Five Tenets of Bungie.net Forum Life:
1. Trolls will always be well fed.
2. Blame-ability thy name is stosh.
3. Bungie has no control over retail prices.
4. Watch out for low-flying defense drones.
5. Seven is not optional, but rather, an inevitability.

Pretty positive, considering old school gametypes and the playlist have a noticeable following in the community. Granted, yeah, the majority of the community wouldn't want to give up classes, but I'm sure, if they have enough interest, players would suck it up and play the game. I mean, gosh, it might even be entertaining.

The problem with fixed classes is that the experience gets stale after awhile. While it's certainly more fresh than simply spawning everyone with the same weapon and having them scour the map in search of something they like to specialize in, it would get old after awhile without any customization to what one could carry from the get-go.

A problem with classes also lies within the size of the multiplayer game. If Reach, being a completely new Halo franchise title, features larger maps and a bigger max player count, I don't see any problem at all with classes being included in the multiplayer. If the gameplay is more like the original Halo series, then I foresee classes of any kind complicating the multiplayer.

The thing is, it has to be designed from the ground up by going with classes. Balance issues need to be taken into account, and maps and equipment would have to be carefully designed. Without classes, Bungie can fall back on tried-and-true practices and deliver a solid, but ultimately rehashed gameplay experience.

No. One of the things that has made all three Halo games legends is their customizeable gaming experience. Halo 3 especially, is almost more of a sandbox game than a FPS because of forge and custom game settings which allow many people to play Halo however they want to, be it default settings, B.U.N.G.L.E., racing, picture taking, Machima, whatever.

Take this away, and Halo might not be the gem that it is now.

The only way a class based system would work is if you could add or delete classes at whim in custom games, so you could essentially create a single class game where you spawn with grenades and an AR, to replicate the style of Halo in Halo 3. Because I don't see custom racetrack variants working when you have people spawning with rocket launchers.

No I got what he was tryingto suggest. But good classic Halo runs on the premise that everyone starts off equal. Equal weapons. Equal health. Equal speed. Equal everything. The only thing that differs between each player is thier smarts, thier expierence with the game, thier expierence with the map, and how good they are with the game, but all those things are subjective differences.

The only way to get an objective advantage is to go out, and get a different weapon, or get some equipment, or get a vehicle, or get a power up.

Starting off with classes, in my opinion, doesn't stay true to how Halo is played. There are some of you who are saying, but this is a new Halo game, not a part of the Halo Trilogy.

But it is still Halo. I would like Halo: Reach to keep the basic same old premise as the other 3 Bungie made Halo games.

i think that actually wouldnt be bad like say if there was a playlist or 2 just with classes and others like normal halo. i would be playing both on a reqular basis

Love is what strengthens the heart, remaining pure in heart is what leads to Honor. Honor is like a sword, so long as the weilder remains with in his honor that sword will remain sharp but that sword eventually becomes so sharp that it leads to vengence. Vengence is what leads to a down fall in your life, when you drop to that level then your life is lost.

There should be customizable classes the game would be much better that way.

  • 08.13.2009 12:25 PM PDT

u cant really say it will be much better cause it will get rid of the halo feel. but like i said before i would be nice to see a playlist or 2 that hav classes

  • 08.13.2009 12:28 PM PDT

Two minutes into the game and every player on every team will have a sniper rifle that they find on the ground.

  • 08.13.2009 1:16 PM PDT

good idea with the special class abilities, the camo can't last to long or else the game starts and every one turns invisible. there has to be a counter to it like the scout or sniper guy can use heat sensor that can see the camo guys

Join the Spartan I Project today.
We are here to help members achieve a 1,750 gamer score, unlocking all of the armor permutations for both Spartans and Elites, and rank up to your full potential.

Still not convinced? Check out our Promo video for a more in depth look at what we are all about.

I know this system works well in COD but I just don't think it would work with the Halo series.

All games have their unique ways of playing and they all do a great job in making them work.

Signatures are for squares.

YEA! AND LETS MAKE THE AR HAVE A CHAINSAW ON IT TOO!!!!

Seriously, no classes. This is Halo, It should be considered a part of the "main" games. Unlike ODST and HaloWars, which are spinoffs. Saying classes should be in Reach, is like me saying Halo 3 should have classes. It doesn't work. It's not the gameplay style of Halo.

I like how everyone who wants change can only think of a class based Halo. Its -blam!- ridiculous. We already have class based games that really have done everything that a class based game can. If you want something new suggest something unique.

Here’s what Luke had to say about the differences in treatment between the Spartans and Elites in Reach:

“Instead of piece-by-piece customization like the Spartans, Elite customization is a full model swap with models selected from the various Elite classes appearing throughout the Campaign. There are all kinds of reasons for this, not the least of which is our continued emphasis on the Spartan as your identity in Reach.”

Also these classes don't deal with power weapons being power weapons. Specifically, the Sniper. If he has a sniper rifle, then he can 1 hit kill anyone, at any range. If he ALSO has an Automag, no one else could stand up to him.

Don't get cocky now!

We dont need class based halo.
We need armor perms that change stats of the spartans, or make subtle changes to weapons, equipment, acccuracy, run speed, etc.

Imagine if you had the option to not only change your helmet, shoulderpads, and chestpiece, but to choose 1 or 2 augmentations or equipment enhancements?

The Spartans all had different effects from augmentation, and some received different upgrades to their armor during the books. (circutry boosting motion tracker range for example, or target tracking).

Or if you wanted to be the fastest Spartan like Kelly, you would choose the superior reflexes augmentation side effect. Maybe you would want to be a tank like Sam, and be the toughest Spartan so would choose the growth spurt augmentation side effect....

The sky is the limit, and I dont see Bungie doing something so static as set-in-stone classes, and I hope to god they make something new with Reach. Halo 3 is past it's prime and is getting boring. Treyarch has upped the bar, and now Bungie has to step up and raise it higher.

I would prefer for each team to have a set number of SPARTANS that you can be. For example, when it is a 4v4 the characters that are available are Fred (close quarters), Linda (sniper), Kelly (scout), and John (soldier). Each team can only have one Fred or one Linda on a team.
