This is my speculation. If you remember from the first game, 343 GS stated that the Flood would be wiped out when Halo was activated. Then, he mentioned that when the others follow suit, the threat would be gone.
Now, others would mean more than one more, so obviously they arre scattered all over the universe.
Now since the Covenant have found Earth, my thesis is that they have discovered a relationship between how the first Halo was located and earth. Possibly, earth is the center in a sphere of Halos that, in order to wipe all life from the galaxy, project one of the beams that we saw during the game. They would come together when fired in unison, and have s death star like beam. Then, they would all fire towards Earth, which would then absorb the energy. Once all the beams hit Earth, a speciial device buried deep in the earth (presumably under Africa) would focus energy, and then release out in pulses, each one going farther and farther out, like our radio broadcasts do. The pulses of energy would then sterilize the entire galaxy after many thousands of years as the pulses extend. Maybe the other Halos come into play in this game because they started their beam sequence, and they are going to fire to Earth. The covies found out, and now are coming to earth to try to shutdown the whole operation. Self preservation is the motivation, obviously.

Theory 2:All hell has broken loose, and everything in the galaxy has no relaiion to each other, everyone is doomed. (a cheap one, i know.)

at first I thought this was another stupid idea, but the thought of earth being some kind of defense installation against the halo's could make alot of sense! Just think, they Halo's were fired 100,000 years ago, thats means earth should have been dust, and humans should have been too....but they arent.

I dont think cove is there to stop the deflector theing, or take it, or whatever, they are there for the gravity/time/space altering device. That is fact. It still remains a mystery however-how humans and other stuf survived the blast 100,000 years ago. Humans have been around longer then that so think about it.

Just one problem. The Halos haven't been activated. Installation 04 was destroyed, and as far as we know, none of the other Halo installations have been activated. So even if your theory was true, it wouldn't matter, because we're in no danger from the Halos. Oh yeah, the Game Theory's thread is that way ^^^

There could be a few Halos that the humans had over looked though.

I may be wrong, but I thought that the Halo's wiped out the floods food, not the flood. If thats the case, then why would the covenant want to activate them on earth, or anywhere else. I guess they might be trying to destroy the device instead but then they could just glass the planet and they haven't. If I'm wrong, someone please correct me.

Im pretty sure humans have been around for AROUND 100,000 years, which coincides nicely with the last time the Halo's were activated, which may also explain the lack of forerunners (killed as they are Flood food) around! Also Halo's weapon may only affect living organisms killing them and leaving the planet unharmed!
