Subject: Would sprinting ruin the Halo formula?

HAIL HALO!

I think it would because the lack of sprint stops people from moving forward without being careful or with backup. Thoughts?

It would unless you are an ODST.

BOOM DEAD!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Would shoe-horning sprinting into Halo3 hurt gameplay? Yes it would. Would introducing it to a new game and making sure it works within in the new game ruin it? It certainly should not. Not every Halo game has to be a simplified version of it's predecessor in order for it to be successful.

Because it's physically impossible for anyone but a specially trained shock trooper to sprint.

I just had a run this morning. Does that mean I'm ready for my own battle rifle?

Spartans can sprint up to 60 mph, you really wanna sprint that fast ingame?

I wouldn't think it would ruin Reach, and could improve ability to get to cover, since I have a tendency to hang out in the open too often.

Not sure about sprinting to be honest.... Gameplay would be completely changed and lots of people would cry that its a CoD ripoff etc etc.

60mph running would be madness. Ultimate madness.

oh gawd

It depends how sprinting works in-game but I'm in different on the subject

I <3 you, Shishka.

Well SPARTANS can run something like 30 mph, so there's no point in sprinting.

Everything will be gone long before me. When the first living thing was born, I was here, waiting. When the last living thing dies, my job is finished. I'll put the chairs on the tables, turn out the lights and lock the universe behind me when I leave.

Do to lack of new recruits, the UNSC had to make it's qualifying standards lower.

Congrats, you made it!

Short answer, hell yes.

I love games that do goog job of relaying the feeling of speed to the player. Mirrors Edge did a good job of this last year, though the story was far too short. When I saw the Halo3 "Stary Night" ad where MC sprints towards the Brutes I was all psyched up, but alas, no sprint option.

As I said in my first response on this thread, if it's added to the game thoughfully, it could be a great implement.

Hmm, that would explain why so many people only know how to rack kills with a BR.

Signatures are for squares.

I'd rather not.

Why not make it like Lord of the rings conquest where if your running for a little while your momentum will increase to a certain point to make you go faster.

yes.

what if every second spent sprinting meant that your shields drained down? That way people would use it sparingly and it wouldn't allow anyone to run away from someone who has the drop on them...

  • 08.13.2009 1:51 PM PDT

also don't make him sprint like in call of duty where his gun is down n stuff so you can't shoot people while running...make it so that you just run a little faster n it becomes a little harder to hit things while you are going at your top speed

  • 08.13.2009 1:51 PM PDT

You can sprint in the other games. Here's how you do it:
Push the left analogue stick all the way up ;D

Quote from Frank O'Connor:

"The core value in Halo 2 when comparing it to Halo, is that you should pick it up, and you should know what to do and it should feel like Halo. Everytime you added something, we had to play around with that until that feels like a natural part of Halo. Until jumping on a Ghost and knocking the pilot out feels like Halo and feels logical and natural, and we hope we've done that."

That quote was taken from this video: Video

Quote from Max Hoberman:

"A lot of what we tried to make different about Halo 2, a lot of the focus was really not on making the gameplay different. The gameplay in Halo 1 was a lot of fun, we wanted to expand on that gameplay."

Taken from the same video, the link is above.

If you take those 2 quotes, you can see from Halo 1, and Halo 2, that they were applied also to Halo 3. From that we also see it in ODST. Nothing is dramatically changed in the gameplay for Halo 3: ODST.

I believe the same principles will apply to Halo: Reach.

My honor student can beat up your honor student.

I'd really rather not see sprinting in Halo Reach. It just wouldn't be Halo with it. I mean you already are a spartan super-soldier; you already run pretty fast. Why would you need to go any faster?

Someone else posted this fact, but it helps prove a point: a spartan could sprint 60 MPH at maximum speed. Why the hell would you ever need to run that fast when you could get in a vehicle and go just that fast in less time, if not even faster?

I don't think Halo should have a sprint.
