You don't even understand the point of equipment do you OP? Equipment provide a equal local effect to both sides of a conflict, but ideally it would be used to prove a greater global advantage to your side.
For example, a power drain kills indiscriminately. But ideally you would throw it at your enemy with the hopes of draining his shields and simultaneously blocking him off from pursuing you. Using it in a situation where you want to pursue your opponent is unwise because you might have to charge through the damaging field yourself to get to him.
And knives are a silly idea.
Perhaps to us mere normal humans a knife is much better than punching, but because of the strength of spartans, it really doesn't do all that much extra damage.
In Halo 3, a melee does 70 points of damage. Do you know how much extra damage a melee with the spiker rifle, the mauler, or the brute shot does? They all have very large blades on them, and could be considered "knives".
72. They do 72 points of damage compared to 70.
You would be much better just picking up a spiker, because then you have a knife that can also shoot superheated spikes.
