Theyre not in the games. Purely from the Novels. A species thats part of the covenant, but they are passive.

they arnt in any other Halo games, you have to read the books to know what they are at this point

Gears of war 3 looks amazing i can't wait for halo 4 master chief is a pretty cool guy he kills aliens and doesn't afraid of anything

you know on the flood one and that grunt talks to this thingy is that an engineer cause i read it ages ago and can't recall its name

There in odst aswell, its leaked info. But their not aggresive for one. they will probably fix things in the game such as covenant vehicles.

Oh yeah, in Halo Wars in the air pad you could make engineer droids, but I figured they were some kind of actual living thing.

You can't see an engineer in any of the games but they are heard of in the books, they don't really possess any combat abilities at all.

They're not droids. They are sentient life forms that communicate with clicks and whistles. They were created by the Forerunner. They fix anything given to them to fix and don't care who they're helping. One fixed the Master Chief's shields in First Strike. Unfortunately it was later killed by Lieutenant Haverson (Page 96, First Strike) because it now knew all about Spartan shielding and Spartan shielding was better than Elite shielding at the time.
