Subject: Halo: Reach - Not a Prequel?

First, I would like to welcome you to my thread. If your purpose is to rant and yell without reading my theory first, please leave now. That being said, I am not very well educated in the Halo timeline, so please correct me if I am wrong.

To begin with, how is space travel possible? It would have to be some form of "space jump," where space ships move vast distances INSTANTLY. How do we receive information? Through various forms of wave/partical transmitions that take take TIME to travel distances, however fast that might be. If we accept these two ideas as fact, I can continue.

Now, I would like to direct your attention to the Stary Night Trailer, in which I first came up with this idea. In this commercial, a child mentions "Do you think we will ever meet them?", meaning aliens (later to be known as the Covenant). The Chief then appears in what seems to be the same field saying, "Not yet." The sudden cut might just be an attempt to add a felling of excitment, OR could be hinting towards a connection between the chield and Chief.

A connection that could only logicaly be made in time. Could the Chief somehow know this child? Or even BE this child?

Going back to the children in Stary Night. They are looking at distant stars/plants. What they see are in fact NOT the stars/planets in their current state, but instead how they looked millions of years ago. This is because light takes TIME to travel distances, and while that light travels, the star/planet is changing.

Now, during the colonization of other planets, how did the humans on those other planets communicate with Earth? Did they communicate with Earth? Because of the distance between these colonize and Earth, it would take MILLIONS of years in order for any signals to reach Earth. That means that any events on these planets could NOT be known on Earth for a LONG period of time after they occured. An easy way to mix up dates if other planets distance from you is constantly changing (orbit around star, the star's movment, and the galaxies movment).

Moving toward the end scene of Halo 3, Chief is seen drifting toward a planet, that some speculate to infact be Reach. However, to get their, the ship would have had to almost INSTANTLY travel HUGE amounts of space. I am not clear on when/if humans developed this kind of technology, but I assume it was after the Covenant. Remeber, they attacked us.

If humans did not ever develop this kind of technology, that leaves two possibilites. One is that they got this technology form Covenant allies. The second is that the forrunner ring somehow sent the Dawn through a SPACE JUMP.

Additionlly, if humans had not developed this technology before the Covenant, how would they know what was going on on their colonize. The fact is they wouldnt. Since at the end of Halo 3, Chief got in what looked like a "staisis pod," I am forced to conclude that humans did not have space jump technology and the forrunner ring forced the Down through a space jump.

Put together the pieces. Covenant can travel infinite distances instantly. Humans have to rely on "physical" movment, and thus can not communicate over long distances. The forrunners MUST have had access to space jump technology in order to build all the rings in the first place.

Could Chief in fact be heading toward Reach? Could the battle for Reach be, in fact, about to BEGIN. Could the battle for Reach be a microcosm of the battle for Earth? Post your thoughts.

The child in the field was chief. Chief says "Not yet." after hearing in his radio a marine yelling; "Chief Chief!" and another marine answers "I think we lost him".

Yes the battle for Reach is about to start, although humans lose. Chief was there and the Pillar of Autumn was the only ship to escape, arriving at Halo after a blind jump to slip space.

Master Chief is getting a new game.

Please read the entire post. the "Not yet" could have a double meaning

I did, it doesn't. He was talking to the marines.

Humans did have slip space jump abilities, not nearly as good as the Covies. At the end of Halo 3 the Dawn is heading for the forerunner portal that goes from Earth to the ark. However we only know that half of the ship made it through for sure. We don't know if the section with MC and Cortana was left behind at the ark, made it halfway, or did something else.

Why can't anyone just accept that its going to be a prequel?

Prove it. Why wouldn't it? If it didn't why was the first scene included. There seems to be a connection.

It would be great if it was a prequel. I have nothing against it. But it just seems odd for Bungie to drop Chief like this. It will be great either way, I am just putting out an idea that I haven't seen before.

It's a trailer for Halo 3 that's why. The child is the Chief before he was taken doing what children do. Thinking about cool stuff like aliens looking at the stars.

It's a prequel. We know the battle of reach happened immediately before Halo:CE. The Pillar of Autumn arrived at Halo from Reach fleeing the destruction and trying to lead the Covies away from Earth.

Bungie isn't dropping Chief. His last words; "Wake me when you need me." are powerful. We know Bungie is developing a new game after Halo:Reach. It will probably be 2-3 or more years away. There is one event (probably also in this time frame) where we will need MC again, launching the next Xbox with a new killer launch title.

Halo:Reach is a prequel.

Old GTs; RebelRobot, Flamedude

The marines are Johnson and another marine.

The connection is that the kid is most probably the Chief. The chief has been temporarily knocked out (and his helmet has been knocked off), and his mind is conjuring up old memories.

Ok then, but that is not the point of the post. The thing is that waves/particals dont travel distances in an INSTANT. Additionally, the presence of staisis pods seem to indicate that it takes long periods of time to get to places, even with the human version of the space slip. This means Reach could NOT have communicated with Earth.

I have hear of no such thing. In fact Bungie won't have full rights over the Halo series soon.

No it doesn't. He is responding to the Marine communicating over the radio that he thinks they "lost him". He replies "Not yet.", meaning that he has not yet died.

Plus if MC was responding to the random child, by saying "not yet", he would be implying that humans had not yet had contact with beings from another planet. Which they have. They're called the "Covenant". Play the games. They're in 'em.

Chief had never set foot on Earth before he was a SPARTAN. He was born and raised on Eridanus II till Halsey made him a SPARTAN.

The "Not yet" could have a meaning like "I wish that it wasn't right now." It sometimes takes a more in-depth analysis to possibly pick up on double meanings.

Also, I am just posting this thread because I found an interesting theory. I am not saying I think this is what will happen, or that I support this happening. I am taking an original theory an putting it out into public view. Its called having a non-biased objective. Mine is to promote and support inteligent discussing about the upcoming game, Halo: Reach.

  • 08.14.2009 4:18 PM PDT

I dont think it matters. is that it is a new halo game and that is good enough for me.

Exactly. The fact is that we are getting a new game. However, some on the forums wish to discuss what it may be about. I am not taking sides. Just promoting intelligent conversation.

I'd love to be a 10 year old and tell my mom I'm going on an adventure out into the world catching Pokemon, with her full support. Never mind the fact that there are rapists, criminals, and murders out there, or the fact that I may get killed by a Pokemon.

Luckily I have Pikachu.

In Halo: Reach, the blockbuster prequel to the Halo trilogy, experience the events that transpired on the planet Reach. Created by acclaimed developer Bungie, Halo: Reach will be available in the fall of 2010 exclusively on Xbox 360. As a bonus for Halo fans, Halo 3: ODST will be the key to entry for the Halo: Reach multiplayer beta coming to Xbox LIVE.

we'll have to wait and see but everones entitled to there own opinion. Im not the most educated person when it comes to halo either but one question. Where exactly is that starry night trailer Is chief supose to wake up there after the end of halo 2? cuz i thought he woke up on sierra 117
again i don't spend much time thinking about halo like i used to so explain that to me. (Im not taking sides either just something to talk about)

It isn't odd that they drop him. They've dropped him cos they're experimenting with new Halo Characters. Hence Halo 3: ODST

just to make some points Halo: Reach is a prequal. I'm pretty sure the UNSC can communicate with Earth from other colonies although I'm not sure how to explain how they do it. and Bungie is not going to make another Halo after Halo: Reach because when Bungie and Microsoft split after Halo 3 Microsoft aquired the license for Halo games. Microsoft and the new 343 Industries (a developing team Microsoft made to handle the Halo franchise) and Bungie will just work on something else and if I had to guess 1st person shooters and RTS games

They're not dropping him at all. John-117 was at Reach. I imagine, even if we don't PLAY as him, he'll appear at some point.

Halo 3: ODST wasn't going to be a full game remember that. It was only supposed to be an expansion at first.
