That will make n00bs go General in 1 minute, bad idea buddy, try somehting else like ranked rocked race and zombies

How so? What you said is true...presuming that it takes 5000 EXP to become 5 Star General - which it wouldn't. If it took, oh, let's say - 500,000 EXP to become a 5 Star General, the new rank system would be alot more fun and rewarding. Here's a perfect example of why I dislike the current rank system.

Social Slayer, High Ground.

Ok! We won by 22 kills, and I have a killing frenzy, sniper spree, two assassins, a beatdown, four splatters, a triple kill, two double kills, and my K/D spread was +17! My reward? 1 EXP Point!

See what I mean?

And I rushed my first post, I was so excited about the idea, I got carried away.

The ranks would take, much, much more EXP points to earn. Recruit as of now takes 1 EXP to earn - or, win 1 match.

What if Recruit took 100 EXP to earn? This reveals hundreds of possibilities for the Halo gamer. To reach recruit, you could...

Win 10 matches with 0 kills, 0 deaths.
Win 5 Matches with 25 kills, 0 deaths.
Win 3 Matches with 20 kills, X deaths and X double kills.

And so forth...

All of these details would be tracked through Bungie's online service record. It could display details like which factor gave you, or stole the most EXP? It could give players a new way to determine what kind of a player somebody else is. If somebody sees a player that is a Brigadier, but all of his/her EXP is through Team Wins, and a minuscule amount of kills and etc...it is obvious that this player is a booster. You see somebody that has lots of
double/triple kills? Maybe this person likes "breaking up" battles. Wow! This guy has earned 421 EXP through splatters, I guess this guy is a good driver!

This is a much more complex, yes, but unique way of ranking players in Halo! I think that Bungie should highly consider this. I can't find any flaws in my idea....please feel free to point out any if you find them. I'm tired of doing exceptionally well online, and being rewarded as much as somebody who held the team back. I hope this thread gets even more replies!

Halo: Reach will revolutionize the Halo franchise. As a prequel, it will be able to kick off the series fresh. The graphics will be better, and it could be the most successful Halo game in the series. We need to discuss some changes that Bungie need to make NOW in order to insure that Halo: Reach will be as good as it can be. Of course, Bungie must be thinking already, but we need to help them out. There are many aspects of Halo that are fine the way they are, but some of them should be changed. Online play is the true gem of Halo. I think that 10% of Halo is playing Campaign, alone. The other 90% is playing matchmaking, campaign, custom games, sharing forged maps, sharing films or screen shots and more. Right now I'd like to focus on the rank system as we have been for the last 20+ replies, but feel free to discuss anything else you feel that Halo: Reach should add, remove or change.

Now, for the rank system, I think that we have the gyst of what I and thousands of others are trying to say - The rank system should be based on individual performance. It should involve less of the team's outcome, but more of the individual's.

Right now, the only EXP penalty is quitting a match, or getting booted from a match. We need to introduce more EXP penalties to Halo: Reach's multiplayer.

Think of bad things that happen in a match, whether it is you only, or if it affects the whole team. Things like:

-Getting killed
-Having your spree ended
-Getting your flag captured
-Having a bomb planted in your base
-Having the other team exterminate you
-Committing suicide
-Betraying others
-Getting betrayed

Too name a few.

All, or some of these could result in an EXP penalty. Certainly, it would not result in an EXP reward! What sense does it make to earn 1 EXP point for getting killed? Adding EXP penalties balances out the rank system more. It seems that the rank system right now is more win, win, win, than win, but be careful.

Let's talk more about the fun part - earning EXP! Now if this system is implemented into Halo: Reach, the ranks would have a much higher EXP requirement. Some factors would reward the player with lots of EXP, others, not so much. A kill would be the most basic form of earning EXP, next to winning the match. In slayer, kills are what determine the matches outcome, on the other hand, so do deaths. Perhaps different games would allow different ways of earning EXP.

For example, a CTF game would reward you EXP only for capturing the opposing teams flag - regardless of how many kills you have (To the exception of killing the flag carrier).

I think, especially that slayer would be affected the most by this. Being how it is probably the most popular game in Halo, it needs to make changes that satisfy all Halo players. I feel that a player should not be penalized for as much as he is rewarded - ie. A kill could be +5 EXP, and a death could be -3 EXP. This could make players focus more on keeping their K/D spread in the positives, which allows the team to have a much higher chance of winning, and winning a match equals more EXP!

Bonus EXP would also be an interesting twist on the current rank system. As mentioned earlier, "special" kills would be worth a small EXP bonus. Things like:

-Killing a player with a grenade stick
-Killing a player with a headshot
-Killing a player with a beatdown
-Killing a player with an assassin
-Killing a player with a "death from the grave"
-Killing a player who is on a killing spree
-Killing the oddball holder
-Killing the flag carrier
-Killing the VIP
-Killing the juggernaut
-Killing the bomb carrier
-Capturing the flag
-Planting the bomb
-Earning the double kill/triple kill/overkill/killtacular...medal
-Earning the Killing Spree/Killing Frenzy.Sword Spree....medal

There could also be new medals which would allow more bonus EXP. Things like:

-Staying in the hill for 15 seconds or longer
-Getting a double kill with the oddball
-Getting a killionaire on grifball
-Killing a player with a melee attack that is holding a gravity hammer or energy sword

Things like these! They are little things that go a long way. I love seeing the killing spree medal pop up in the bottom of the screen, but it would feel even better knowing that it is helping me reach the next rank.

Well, I have spoke my entire mind. Please discuss! This is something I have been thinking of since I heard of Halo: Reach!

Thanks for listening

-Erik

Here’s what Luke had to say about the differences in treatment between the Spartans and Elites in Reach:

“Instead of piece-by-piece customization like the Spartans, Elite customization is a full model swap with models selected from the various Elite classes appearing throughout the Campaign. There are all kinds of reasons for this, not the least of which is our continued emphasis on the Spartan as your identity in Reach.”

EXP on personal performance? Sure.

Trueskill on personal performance? Not for team games.

It seems that the trolling has been removed. That's good, but it now appears as if I'm talking to myself

The posts the OP made recently go into some good specifics. However, in objective-based games, people would betray each other to capture an objective unless the EXP loss for someone about to capture an objective was immense. Say you get 50 exp for a flag. People will betray for flags often unless you get a penalty of 50 exp or more for betraying a flag carrier. A system like this exists in Call of Duty: World at War's Hardcore Search and Destroy. If you kill a friendly bomb planter, you lose hundreds of EXP, which is much more than you get for planting a bomb.

The most robust system I've seen as far as EXP goes is present in both Battlefield: Bad Company and Battlefield 1943. In those games, you get rewarded greatly for pursuing the objective of your team. In addition to that, you get EXP for kills along with things such as destroying enemy-occupied vehicles, getting headshots, and getting assists, among numerous other things. However, Bad Company has teamkilling. If you teamkill, you lose more than you usually get from it as far as points go.

Hopefully, Bungie takes a thing or two from that EXP system.

I'm still here =D

The EXP earned for completing a task in an objective game wouldn't be much at all. If a kill gives you 5 EXP, than a flag capture would also earn you 5 EXP. If people are looking to rank up, they should play slayer because there are more opportunities to earn EXP. In the early ranks, stolen kills and betrayals may be more present due to the ease of ranking up. But once players hit mid-ground in ranks, like Gunnery Sergeant and up, it will take much more EXP to rank up. Each rank will be harder to earn than the last.

I don't like the idea of losing more EXP than you earn for betrayals. It should be equal to or less than what you earn for a kill. If you get 10 kills in a game worth 100 EXP, and betray one person and it subtracts 100 EXP from your total, there would be complaints up the ass. Right now, a betrayal may get you booted, and a boot results in a loss of EXP. The loss of EXP in a boot is equal to the gain of EXP in a win. One betrayal can be the difference in earning EXP. In the new system, we have a few options for betrayals:

1. A Betrayal gets you kicked. If you have tons of double kills and sprees and headshots etc.. they are not counted. If you earn a total of 200 EXP in one match from kills, headshots, sticks and etc....and then betray someone, you would be booted. All of your hard to get medals and kills would not give you any EXP from that one match, also, that betrayal would result in a small loss of EXP.

2. You could betray as much as you want but not get booted, however, a betrayal results in a high loss of EXP (Let's say 2x as much as a kill.)

3. The rank system should make players avoid betrayals. There should be a somewhat high punishment for betrayals. I would like to see this...

[i]Three betrayals get you booted from a match, regardless of whether or not it was an accident or not. If you betray three people in one match, you are booted. Each betrayal subtracts 10 EXP from your total, and getting booted results in an additional 10 EXP lost. So that would be 40 EXP lost from your total if you get booted due to betrayals, as an added bonus, All of your medals that would have given you EXP in that match would not count. Other factors that subtract EXP like deaths, and having a bomb armed in your base etc....are still counted. This could mean that the minimum amount of EXP lost in a match due to betrayals is 40....but it could be much, much more if you had lots of deaths in that match.

Each Betrayal = -10 EXP
Getting Booted = -10 EXP
Getting Killed = -3 EXP

Three betrayals get you booted, so that's -40 EXP lost right there, if you had 10 deaths in that game, that's another -30 EXP. Even if you had 22 kills and 10 deaths, you would still lose EXP because kills and medals would not be counted.

I have never played Call of Duty 4. I only got my Xbox 360 three weeks ago. If this is how COD4 does their ranking, then I think they are doing a great job and I hope that Bungie does something similar in Halo: Reach.

In my opinion, It could work out like this if everyone is getting xp win or lose. winning team shoud get a team xp and individual xp, but losing team should only get individual xp of how well they performed through out the game. Now for the details, there should be many categories of how to earn xp in any game or playlist except customs. With this in effect, that means to reach to the highest skill or xp it will take sometime or it will just be an extremely easy task. For XP, Another idea K/D can work with you or against you regardless win or lose. Also, getting type of medals, assists, best spree, avg life, headshots should earn xp. In conclusion, Bungie better think long and very carefully. In this case, new ranking system , as well as HALO: REACH for the most part, will have to satisfy all of U.S.A. and Europe for the most part. Thank you, for the users and bungie user, who took the time to read this.

Precisely. The Halo franchise is one of the most popular online FPS games. The rank system plays a huge part in online play. It shows others how experienced and/or skilled one player is. Bungie needs to get the rank system right. I'm not saying that the current rank system is bad or anything, it's just very dull. It needs to be more complex. A toddler could understand the rank system today, "Win matches and you will succeed, losing is okay once and a while, but try to keep winning so that I can become Brigadier. No killing people on your own team!"
It should be more complex. The medals, kills, deaths, K/D spread, and etc.. should all be taken into affect when the new Halo comes around.

Speaking of medals, how about some new medals? There could be a medal for staying in the hill for 30 seconds or more, or perhaps a medal for getting a triple kill with a specific weapon? Or a medal rewarding the player for doing a very difficult task, like take down a banshee with a power drain. New medals would keep the game interesting, and EXP rewards for these medals would keep the player motivated to keep playing!
