I like this theory Agustus.

The Forerunner, the Great Journey, and Heaven Theory

[Announcement Trailer] Halo: Forerunner

Posted by: Agustus
I lol'd at the absurd miscommunication that occurs whenever dibbs post something. Perhaps his brain is so highly evolved that he can no longer clearly communicate with lesser life forms, even among his own species.

What can I say? I like the theory. Ii just have one small problem with this section here...
Ghost of Onyx pg. 337
That which must be protected... behind the sharpened edge of the shield... beyond the reach of the swords.... for the reclaimers.

Now many have over looked this. At first glance it seems to refer to the Ark. The shield being the shield worlds (perhaps located in within the Maginot sphere) and the swords the Halo Array.
Now because its beyond the reach of the swords its past this galaxy. Therefore supporting it being the Ark. But from my previous points this could also refer to something greater than the Ark, especially because the portal may have 2 different coordinates.

That message was located on the Slipspace Cryopods that Team Katana was locked in at the end of Ghosts of Onyx. I thought the message was a direct reference to the Cryopods themselves. (They are protecting whoever is inside of them from the blast, behind the sharpened edge of the shield. Since the Cryopods operated in the same way the Dyson sphere on Onyx did, putting their user into slipspace generated space, these can be considered mini shield worlds themselves. And their intended users? Reclaimers).

TL;DR
I thought the quote referred to the cryopods as opposed to the Ark or something else.

Some can come away from reading "War and Peace" thinking it a simple adventure story, while others can read the ingredients on a gum wrapper and unlock the secrets of the universe.

That is a possible conclusion, but it's the wording that make me believe otherwise. As you said it refers to something being protected beyond the swords. Then it jumps to "for the reclaimers". That's why I think it is referring to something that is being protected for the reclaimers. Not that it's meant to protect the reclaimers themselves.

Think of it this way, just cut out the middle junk: That which must be protected for the reclaimers.

Not

That which must protect the reclaimers.

Making any sense here? The sentence subject is "that which must be protected", not "the reclaimers".

The path ahead is fraught with peril. But I will do all I can to keep it stable - keep you safe.

The path ahead? what path? And why is it fraught with peril? Could this have something to do with you not being "worthy" yet?

"What Path? And why is it fraught with peril?"?!??!!

Errrr. How about the Halo ring that happens to be exploding all around you? That a path fraught with enough peril for ya?

I discussed that obvious possibility, and also pointed out how Bungie has used dual meanings in the past and how it might apply here.

For better or for worse, I knew it would happen. To many incomplete plot points.

Apologies for taking so long to address this (absent minded).

I can see how you can come to the conclusion about that quote relating to the Arc. It's valid, but I don't believe it is the most likely conclusion. First, the quote is found inscribed on the Cryopods. That leads me to believe that the quote is actually referring to the Cryopads themselves. Also, look at the wording."That which must be protected..." Going from just this segment (not the sentence as a whole) it seems like the pods are special and thus must be protected (I have my own ideas as to why that's the case but I digress)."...behind the sharpened edge of the shield..."The pods themselves could be thought of as miniature shield worlds. They encapsulate their user in slipspace (much like the Micro Dyson spheres). This further serves to show that the quote is referring to the pods themselves."...beyond the reach of the swords..."This connects with the "behind the sharpened edge of shield" for the same reasons."...for the Reclaimers." Perhaps the pods were intended to be passed onto and used by Humanity.

I just feel it is more likely that the quote refers to the actually device it was found on as opposed to another Forerunner construct.

I believe it was purposely written as such to leave it open for interpretation. One can take the line "for the Reclaimers" as the pods are for the reclaimers, or that something else is being protected for the reclaimers. Where it is inscribed obviously lends favor to your conclusion, but I still believe the wording favors me. That which must be protected for the Reclaimers, not to protect the Reclaimers. Otherwise the passage would be stating that the pods themselves need to be protected for the Reclaimers, which makes little logical sense.

In Ghosts of Onix, as you posted, it says something about a sheild and sword. Like Cortana says to Cheif during one of her "Cortana moments" on the Storm, "I am your sheild, I am your sword." But it wasn't the right Cortana. That was made obvious throughout her messages to the Cheif in Halo 3. So maybe it was Mendicant Bias?

I am very glad to see someone go to this length to find out what is going on. Your theory/theories have got to be very close if not dead on for the future Halo 4. I am very interested in seeing where 343 takes MC. I also can't wait to see what information is hiding within the Reach game.

Any thoughts as to what we might discover in the campaign? Since Noble Team isn't the team that helps Dr. Halsey, I wonder if we are going to have any more light on this subject.

I am almost positive that Reach will contain some essential and discrete clue that may relate to this theory. I'd bet money on it.

Most people who play Halo don't know what a Forerunner is, a lot of my friends think the Covenant made the Halo rings, and that the Flood were a Covenant experiment gone wrong.

A game about the Forerunners would be confusing enough, bring the Precursors into it and everyone would be confused.

If they do sequels to Halo 3, they should be set a few months after, with you clearing up the last remnants of the Covenant; after all, High Charity and it's fleet can't have been all that remained.

Bungie has stated that they are done with Halo after "Reach," are also working on a non-Halo project, so if a sequel is made it will likely fall under the hands of another company, perhaps with some Bungie insight.

My question is, can they make a Marathon/Forerunner game, not entitled Halo, but which continues the story with a loose reference to MC? Perhaps you play as someone else, but MC is in the game?

Halo 3: Lone Wolves - 44
Team Slayer - 38
Team Doubles - 46
Team Snipers - 25
MLG - 20
Team SWAT - 28
Halo: Reach: Brigadier Grade 2 - 73% Armory Completion

A theory that bounces around a lot talks about how the legendary ending of Halo 3 shows a planet that strongly resembles Marathon. For those who don't know, Marathon is one of Bungies earlier games. Adding on to that theory, those people believe that the main character in Marathon is the Master Chief we so dearly love come back when he was asked to help out.

The problem is, Marathon already tied in to a different game. I can't recall the name of that game though.

I'll edit this post if I find or remember the name.

EDIT: The game is called Pathways Into Darkness.

Bungie has already stated that the Halo and Marathon plot lines are completly seperate and do not intertwine in any way. Besides it wouldn't make any sense whatsoever.

Space. The Final Frontier. These are the voyages of Murphy's Laws on the StarShip Enterprise

In Halo Legends: Origins, you see the planets being teleported near other Covenant planets.
Halo 3 legendary ending: MC gets stuck near the legendary planet.
The AI Julianna was able to stave off rampancy by processing data and controlling the Rubble.
Ghosts of Onyx Sequel and Halsey and co stuck in a Micro Dyson sphere.
Shows that Cortana may not be rampant yet due to absorbing and processing the Halo data, that the forerunners almost certainly moved the Halo installations from where they were and possibly from the other planets to their final destination. Also, Halo 4 will likely follow up on these by following clues that the forerunners left. But we don't know. Yet. The Halo story bible probably contains the info, but we'll never know until Microsoft announces something about what they're going to do with Halo soon
