Yeah, I still haven't got my answer as to why, if we have all the maps, and can install games to our HDD, why can't why for this? I understand Halo 3's point of view, but what would cause the loading slow down if their burn to the disc to begin with? I don't get it...

It's to not lose money. If people wanted ODST just for the maps, they could just borrow the 2nd disk from a friend and download the maps that way, leaving Bungie out $60.

because that is a lot of space and it would cause matchmaking to lag, installing games to hard drive is mainly for better campaign and less lag in campaign, with games like halo 3 that have a lot of downloadables it makes MM lag.

Wish there was a lockout code or something... then again, its a good move in comparison to Halo 2's Multiplayer map pack...

I don't see how my idea was fail and yours was top notch. If anything, yours would be fail.

  • 08.15.2009 7:13 AM PDT

It's not that you can't install it, it's just that if you do install it, the game will be slower.

  • 08.15.2009 7:13 AM PDT

you copy the odst/firefight disk but not the halo 3 disk with the maps

They act all big and tough when their on camera with their friends and their guns. But when you break into their house in the middle of the night and stick a gun barrel in their face. They cry like babies and and piss their pants.

It's because Halo 3 in the first place was not designed to be optimized to be installed to the hard drive. Resulting in slower load and matchmaking times.

I get that but just Halo 3, where mythic is a separate disc, and has all the maps. Yes i read above and understand people could abuse copying maps to their friend's HDD, but as to slowing down and lagging MM is still hard to understand, except for the fact of too much content, idk...

The reason why games these days run faster when installed is because they are designed to do that, but Halo 3 was made long before the NXE meaning it wasn't meant to do that.

Hey Guys.

I am Founder of the group FireFight Custom Games
Another Great Group is New Mombasa Join them both :P

My Real GamerTag is XbL ShutDown.

You need the disc to play it.

You don't download them maps off the disc. you play it off the disc.

Again, i get that, but that's Halo 3, what about Halo 3: Mythic? What im trying to say is the Halo 3: Mythic disc is after NXE, so it should be able to but it can't still, and your saying the MM is design to work and load as it should before NXE regardless it being on a new disc?

How do we know what effect it would have on game play ?
Has anyone put it on the HDD and tried it?

  • 08.15.2009 7:23 AM PDT

It doesn't have anything to do with an abundance of content, or the threat of people "stealing" maps (which isn't really possible since it requires the disc you used to install anyway). It has everything to do with the fact that Halo 3 was released well before the NXE update. Since it wasn't designed with this in mind, it actually runs slower.

Since Halo 3 isn't optimized for NXE, it goes without saying that the Mythic disc, which contains the exact same multiplayer as Halo 3, would have the same problems as the original disc.

Hey guess what!? I play CoD more than Halo, but I'm not an annoying fanboy. I love CoD more, but I like how involved the Halo Community is...

FAIL!!!!!!!

EPIC FAIL!!!!!!! EVen if you install a disk game to your HDD you still need the DISK to play it.

It's not impossible to Install Halo 3 Mythic to your Hard Drive, Bungie just recommend that you don't. The reason for this is because of the way that Halo 3 was designed to load maps. It's exactly the same with Halo 3 now.

I have Halo 3 installed to my hard drive, and apart from campaign levels taking a long time to load, I don't have any issues with it.

Halo 3 and Halo 3 Mythic both run the same way. They are designed to operate the best by reading straight from the disc, not the HDD. By installing to the HDD, you increase loading times, rather than reducing them. Also, installing the disc onto your HDD will not give you the maps. You still need the disc to actually play it.

ODST, on the other hand, will work faster on the HDD.

So, Halo 3: don't install.
Halo ODST: do install.

Straight from the update.
