People like halo for not being like CoD and for having a... unique... gameplay to its multiplayer.

Don't turn Halo into CoD!

In all seriousness, I roll with this. Mostly with the classes.

To me, having classes would just be un-Halo like. It just wouldn't feel right, you know?

=)

You already sort of have classes in Halo. You just have to pick everything up.
Grab the sniper, you're a Sniper.
Shotgun/Mauler = CQC.
Spawn?AR/BR = Soldier.
Rockets/Laser = Heavy Weapons.

It is all the same really. In class based FPS, you fight over key positions, such as choke points. In halo you fight over weapon spawns... which also happen to usually be choke points.

... and all variations, such as "don't turn Halo into Battlefield" or "this is Halo Reach, not Star Wars Battlefront Reach!!!"

It's just poor logic. Seriously.

If adding classes would turn Halo into Call of Duty, then NOT having classes has already made Halo into a Quake/Doom/all other similar, older FPSes clone.

Furthermore, if adding something from another game would turn Halo into that game, wouldn't enough stuff from Halo carrying over (controls, weapon functions, shields, equipment, motion sensors, etc.) wouldn't that make the game into Halo?

I mean, since adding one thing from game A into game B would make game B into game A, wouldn't adding enough stuff from game B into the game A formula (classes/large scale) wouldn't that automatically make that game Halo?

Stop making -blam!- threads like this one...

Halo should be Halo and not a classed base -blam!-....nobody want this.
Bungie should close this forum until 2010....

So you want the same game as the last three? Really?

This isn't the Halo we know and love. It is set in the same universe/time frame, but it is a different game. It will be different, this isn't the trilogy anymore.

Armor Lock isn't overpowered. You just suck at Reach :)

Reach isn't bad, you're just a BK :)

For my gamertag, look up "Ghoulishtie"

Halo is Halo IMO. I've played Quake and Doom, and if I remember correctly, those still worked off the health system. Halo works off of a recharging shield system, along with an invisible health bar. That way, you dont need to prance around trying to find health packs all the time.

You have no rights, play nice.

Classes introduced to a Halo game would shake the structure and sandbox - all maps would have to be very non-linear having very many different areas that have indoor/outdoor areas, varying sightlines, and height levels. Customization in gametypes and arenas would drop somewhat - if you want to create a FFA race gametype, and didn't want any mayhem due to explosion damage, you would have to somehow force everybody to play as a set class.

It wouldn't work with the level of customization offered in Halo 3.

My friend, that is quite ignorant of you to say. This is Halo:Reach. Ok? Bungie is not changing Halo 3. Halo 3 will still be the same game we all know and love. Halo:Reach is a completely different game than Halo 3 for all we know. Since it's different, it can have different features to make it unique.

And the level of customization offered in Halo 3 is meant for halo 3, not necessarily Halo:Reach.

Every played Halo CE? Yah, it used the shield and health pack system if i remember correctly. And by what your saying, so did Quake and Doom.

For all people saying that implementing classes in Halo would make it a clone of CoD, Halo CE was in its own way a copy of Quake and Doom.

Nobody wants this eh? I for one wouldn't mind classes. It seems MLG Cheewawa wants classes. A lot of people wouldn't mind change. I for one dont want another copy. A lot of people dont want a copy.

In the days of old, there were legends of a land long lost to time. This land was known as Ranna'Mor. Ranna'Mor was said to contain in its borders 7 warriors. These warriors had once unleashed a veritable hell upon the ancient world, until they were locked away. My name is Toriad, and I am one of those warriors. Our return is approaching. Do not run away, do not cower in fear; take solace in your final days, for that is all we can do. -Legend of Ranna'Mor

The problem many people have with the addition of classes is that Halo is known for not having a class dependent game. What made Halo what it is was that it was quite dissimilar from many games at the time. Halo did not rely on any armor upgrades or carrying 5 weapons at once. With recharging energy shields and the ability to only carry 2 weapons, it made play rethink their strategies for first-person shooters.

The addition of classes now would change halo's core, essentially.

What big features did Halo add that Quake didn't have:
-regenerating health system(shields)
-melee system
-vehicles
-weapon capacity limited to two
-grenades
-radar(motion tracker)

What did Halo Take from Quake:
-weapons on map
-same starting weapon for everyone

Halo was not even close to a Quake clone no matter what way you looked at it.

What do almost all FPS have
-regenerating health system
-melee system
-vehicles
-weapon capacity limited to two
-grenades
-radar

What would Halo add to Class based Gameplay:
-Nothing but familiar character/vehicle/weapon models and gametypes

Any class based Halo would feel like a clone.

Life every day like it's your last.

Have a lesson, Halo is made by Bungie. Call of Duty is made by Treyarch and Infinity Ward. Two very different games, made by three different developers. Halo cannot become Call of Duty.

What if the custom options let you set traits of a class? Then it would have MORE possibilities then Halo 3, because you could put only 1 class, place weapons on the map... and voila! Halo 3.

Okay, your trying to say that few things from Halo didn't got inspiration from Science Fiction movies or even some FPS games that came before it? Your trying to say that Halo is 100% original? It's not 100% original. Every game developer need to take some inspiration from some games if they're out of ideas.

Halo is probably one of the most nostalgic FPS games in existence today. CTF, TDM? It's just like Delta Force back in 97

COD4 didn't invent the class-based system, that system has been used for a number of years prior to COD4 to great effect.

Personally I don't think that any Halo game would benefit from classes. Classes work best when the action is set along a much larger battlefield, if anyone remembers playing Battlefield 2 or Joint Operations the class choices made would benefit your squad in a number of ways depending on their place on the battlefield.

In all honesty, people complaining about classes lacking innovation, I'm sorry but the whole franchise lacks innovation apart from single player.

Alt+F4=secret weapon in Halo PC!

Adding classes to Reach will ruin the cornerstones of Halo multiplayer such as being on an even playing ground and power weapon control. What's the point of controlling power weapons if you can just spawn yourself with a rocket launcher once you hit a certain level?

Currently Halo is about who can whore the power weapons. I bet you complain about a "rocket whore" correct? Well how is what you are doing with the sniper rile any better?

In a class based system, everyone has a chance to fight back with balanced weapons. If the enemy has a sniper, boom, I can spawn with one and take him out, etc.

Not to mention, have you noticed that the team who can get the most power weapons in the first 30 seconds normally wins the game? I don't think its fair that 30 seconds should determine the next 11 minutes.

Poor logic?

How about a radical change like a Class system would have a drastic effect on the experience and what defines it as Halo.

Halo has always been about Map and Weapon control, everyone is indentical in their gameplay abilities. Skill and choices is what changes the game, not classes and load outs.

i always thought what defined it as halo was everything that was in campaign like elites vs spartans in multiplayer classes would just make it more realistic in campaign not everyone starts with the same weapon depending on what they are like brutes get spikers or elites get plasma rifles
