I would love to see the (M9 HE-DPG), AKA 'Nuke' grenade return in Reach! The same used in Combat Evolved. We have little 'Poof' frag grenades currently in H3, as they were in H2, The blast radius is terrible!

Epic Explosion

little poof

A soldiers sacrifice is never forgotten

have you ever seen real life granades? they're smaller than you think. besides, because halo could be a nade-fest sometimes it would be blinding and it would just fail.

Halo CE and Halo 3 have very particular styles - the explosions in Halo CE were palletized to be extremely exaggerated, and the tools to create the effects were pretty basic - only three or four variations of billboard sprites were used to make the effects.

In Halo 3, the explosions are palletized to have their own flavor as well - with the tools available, you have particle clouds, sparks, contrails (splines) capable of collision, material specific debris with collision, basic sprites and a sphere radiating from the epicenter of the explosion which controls the tonemaps and exposure, working with the HDR to create a brilliant effect.

Oh, and the damage created by either explosion is similar, as is the splash radius of the explosion.

..Well seeing that fragmention doesn't hurt anything in Halo 3, I'd say a grenade of substantial radius would be nice. I know grenade explosions aren't massive, but they're surely larger than 5 by 5 feet Same goes with all explosions in general, actually. Tank shots, rocket shots, ect..

They've never actually changed how much damage the grenade does, but it still has dramatically changed how gameplay works with the implementation of headshot auto-aim and bouncing physics. A larger blast radius and less bounce would make Reach perfect.

  • 08.16.2009 11:23 PM PDT

It's weird. Bungie kind of took the frag grenade, made it into something it's not, then made the spike grenade to replicate a frag grenade...

=)

Lulz.

Why? All he did was say how both explosions work in both games. That wasn't the point of the thread. And then he threw in a valid point at the end followed by an incorrect one.

...Uhm the OP was comparing both the Halo 3/Halo 2 Frag Grenade to the Combat Evolved Frag Grenade, and 101 explained them, and said both the splash radius were similiar, and not to distant to what the OP was saying.

I think it seemed like a pretty valid discussion post.

You think talking big words somehow makes you smarter than everyone, and they should automatically accept your opinion. anyone who has played Halo CE, knows the grenades, and explosions in general, have a significant larger splash radius then halo 2 and 3. And are you kidding me!? You say the damage of a H3 grenade and a CE grenade are identical? Take a seat kid.

Actually those are the correct words, neither big nor small. He is correct, in Halo CE it is a very simple image. And by they way Halo 3 frags are amazing because they don't have to be set into the ground to explode, there is still a similar damage and damage radius in all the Halo games.

Future Grenade= Nuke Grenade

The thing about 2 and 3's grenade is that it could only really damage one target at a time, unless they were sitting right next to each other. That isn't right for a Universe that takes place 500 years in our future.

Haha...your name fits you well. He is incorrect on almost everything he said. Especially with his last statement. And your opinion about Halo 3 grenades being the best is just that.. an opinion. as is my statement.

I take it that you don't know about what makes up Halo's effects? Images, all just simple images. Don't believe me, go here go down to the one that's Blowing S#!t Up the Bungie Way, and look at it. Halo has been using the same engine for 10 years, just has major upgrades, Like reflections for example, you can do that in Halo CE. All it is, is images, to be exact a cube map, that's all a reflection is, that's why you don't see character models, and scenery in the visor.

I make maps and what not for Halo CE for fun for 4 years, so don't be telling me I don't know what I'm talking about.

And I get that comment often, its the internet, words don't hurt people, you're just hurting your case.

I can make a mean PB and J sandwich...that doesn't mean i can launch the space shuttle Endeavor my friend...There is a significant difference in blast radius/damage going from Halo CE to todays H3. If you can't see that, then you should have your eyes checked.

  • 08.17.2009 1:21 AM PDT

Irony makes the strongest men fall to their knees!

You can't technically check, because both grenades function differently, but they do the same damage, you just don't have the factor of there being any health. One grenade needs to settle into the ground before the it explodes while the other can be bounced off of walls, and exploded in mid air.

How can you see a blast radius? You can't test it exactly, unless you have a ruler, or measuring tape.

Yes, I have played Halo CE, very much so in fact, and I know the grenades. The splash radius in Halo CE was about the same as in Halo 3 - really, it was. Perhaps the falloff rate was a little steep in areas in Halo CE, which gives the impression that the grenade has a larger splash radius.

Like I said, identical in every way other than the way the explosions look. Personally, I think the frag grenade explosions in Halo 3 suit the amount of damage they do.

I like the link you gave me, which doesn't even relate to Weapon explosions rockets, grenades, etc. It goes into blowing crap up like warthogs which is a totally different matter. You think you know about the physics of the game-play but just as you state..you make maps on CE, and is also a totally different subject.
