Subject: Your Guide to Searching for Old Threads.

With B.B. gone, the passion of Bungie.net has lessened.

I've seen many people complain about the lack of a search feature, but having searched for old threads myself, I've come up with something that may help. What follows is a list of things to do when looking for your post:

1.) Try to remember the name of the thread you are looking for (DUH!).

2.) Estimate the date that you posted it. This lets you know how far in the Forum you need to go back.

3.) Once you have the date in mind, try to remember whether it was a long-lasting thread with many posts, or a short-lived thread with few. If it was long-lasting, the last post in the thread will most likely be dated days after you posted it (last post-dates are listed by the threads). If short-lived, the last post will be dated the same day you posted the thread, or a day or two after. Also, long-lasting threads have larger post-counts, so you can narrow it down to what sort of thread you are looking for by simply looking at the numbers.

4.) Remember what Forum you posted it on. This is key in two ways:
-If you look in the wrong Forum, you won't find it (duh!).
-Different Forums have a different amount of daily posts. For instance, The Septagon and The Underground accumulate, usually, about one page of threads per day (even less for the Septagon), whereas New Mombassa and The Flood can recieve about 3+ per day. Knowing this can shorten the time it takes to find a post greatly, because it lets you know how many pages you can skip when looking at the old thread-names.

5.) Skip pages! Don't go page-by-page! That sucks. As I said, depending on the forum, you can skip different amounts of pages.

6.) Watch the dates of last-posts of threads carefully. When page-skimming, make sure you don't start going past what date the last post probably was.

7.) If it was related to a news-story on the B.net Homepage, look up the news story and see what date it was posted. That helps you narrow down the dates a little bit more.

8.) If it was a short-lived post, you probably shouldn't bother to bring it back up. Some posts are short-lived for a reason.... Also, don't bump stupid posts or posts that you know will just end up in a flame-fest.... That will just put a stinky aura around you, and the Mods will start to watch you closer (you won't like that).

9.) Have something going on in the background of your work to keep you more entertained. I recommend listening to a talkshow, or good music (talkshows you don't actually have to watch to be entertained by them... movies and tv series may not work well in this because of that). My favorite things to listen to include Iron Maiden and The Late Show with David Letterman (I love the Will it Float? mini-feature in particular.... Grinder Girl is awesome!).

Perhaps some people may think it commen sense, but there's my little guide. I may add more stuff into it when I think of more. Also, feel free to reply to this thread and offer your own advice in searching for old -blam!-.

Edit: Added number 9.

My advice is to remember when counting, you go 1, 2, 3, 4, and so on. There are no repeat numbers. And if you can't find your post, look harder.

I would like to point out that it is my understanding that the 1337 Bungie Overlord is working on a search feature for the Forums... somebody correct me if I'm wrong.

Edit: Score! Sticky number 2 for me!

It's also thread of interest for the septagon, even better!

Oh well, I never make topics anyways. I always tend to respond to what someone else says. The only way that I'll make a thread is when I know it will do well. Call it my forum stratagy.

Good strategy, I suppose.

By the way, I editted in a ninth tip in my original guide.

bah

Barron's idea of a helpful post is "kindly" telling someone how to get the yellow banshee. That's why he has no stickies. And you bet your ass the cool people get stickies. I've had 2 and a news post. I'm super cool.
