Subject: Halo Reach: Falls 2010. Does this tell you anything?

I couldn't think of anything creative, so I just wrote this.

It's all in the words. In the book fall of reach reach gets glassed by the covenant, or otherwise it falls. So, Bungie saying reach falls in 2010 makes you think that the story is about the fall of Reach. They did the same thing with ODST(prepare to drop, drops fall 2009), im guessing there going to do it with Reach too.

Share your thoughts.

(This is to all the people who think Halo Reach has nothing to do with the book or the planet Reach)

If someone has made this topic before, im sorry, I dont spend much time in this forum.

I highly doubt that this game will have much to do with the novel The Fall of Reach. Rather, I think its about the event in Halo history when Reach falls to the hands of the Covenant. The novel shows us only a 15 minute long mission 3 Spartans went on, all in zero-Gee. Then, the majority of the Spartans fall to the surface of Reach and fight here while the PoA leaves with the Chief in it. This doesn't happen in TFoR, it happens in First Strike.

I said that the game has a possibilty of being about the book not it is. Annyway I appreciate your comment. You have a good point. But then again we are both making points on speculation right?

Just enjoy the damn game!
Who cares about BR vs AR

It depends. It could feature a team mentioned in the books, but not fully discussed, so it would based on the battle, but follows a different story arc.

that is also a possibility. But again we are making points on speculation and yours more so on somthing that would make more sense gameplay wise.

One thing it tells me is that Halo Reach's development cycle should be simillar to Halo 3's.

Halo 3 was announced at E3 in 2006, and comes out Fall 2007.
Halo Reach was announced at E3 in 2009, and comes out Fall 2010.

Both have roughly Five seasons from announcement to release. Reach could always be delayed, but that shouldn't effect the earlier steps.

This is pretty useful. For example, we first started hearing about Halo 3's multiplayer in November - December 2006, so it would make sense that we hear more about Halo Reach's multiplayer in November - December 2009, especially since ODST will have come out by then for a month or two and new exciting information about Bungie's next game, especially the Reach's beta, will only increase sales by Christmas.

The "falls 2010" can be a distractor. It may have nothing to do with the game itself, but to the fact that the people are falling in from space.

We don'e learn what happens on Reach during the battle of Reach (events of the trailer) in Halo: The Fall of Reach. We learn that in Halo: First Strike.

"Let me turret, you suck at it. Don't be sad we all know it."

The events on Reach in the book "First Strike" were flash backs.
They can base this on the book, squad of spartans, then switch you to the Chief's fight in space throughout the game.
Or, they can basically say "screw the book" and make an epic battle field full of Spartans...much like 300. Heroic slo-mo deaths and such.
That, would be the greatest Halo game ever...

This apple is brown, and rotten. This orange on the other hand, is in relatively average shape. So the orange is definitely the preferable option.
----------You can't compare apples and oranges. You're so dumb.

The game isn't going to be based upon the books. Not the small part in FoR, or the flashbacks in FS. Joseph Staten and Jason Jones don't want to retell FS. They want total creative freedom. The mission designers, want and need freedom.

Don't get me wrong, the game takes place on Reach. A significant part of the game, is going to relate directly to the events occuring at Reach. The game is therefore going to occur during an event, that has already been explored canonically. The game isn't going to trample on canon, and the game will allude to, and reference some of what else is canonically going on there. But its safe to say, they aren't retelling FS, or the small sections of FoR.

Really, theres a lot of directions they could be taking the game. But a play by play of the novels is not one of those. Even Flood, and Sentinels aren't off of the table. Its possible the game starts at Reach, and ends on another planet in Reachs system. Part of me has pondered weither one of the planets in the backdrop of the trailer, is the same planet as Sandbox/ sandtrap.

I know. That doesn't matter. We don't learn about anything that happens on the ground in Halo: The Fall of Reach. We learn that in the flashbacks in First Strike (like how we learn about the Spartan training in flashbacks in The Fall of Reach).

Actually, if anything, it has more to do with "The planet of Reach falls 2010."

Fall of course being a non-literal verb to show that the defenses around the planet fell and we lost that fight.

hmm ok, so thats why we spend 3/4 of a book watching MC save fred, kelly, grace, anton, li, and Dr. Halsey? yeah that is first strike but when you ook at the time altering artifact's influence they happened at the same time

  • 08.18.2009 7:24 PM PDT

IMO, the game would be amazing if it followed the events of The Fall Of Reach and Ghosts of Onyx. From the Spartan's training to well...no spoilers sorry, if you wanna know how amazing, pick up the books!

So?

First off, I don't think this game will follow the stories told in the novels. They would not make for good gameplay.

Secondly, would you say that Halo Wars was based off of Ghosts of Onyx even though GoO had a POV in it which occured the same year (time) as Halo Wars? No, so why would you do that here?
