alright i love forge but there are many problems that could be fixed

1. make forge into more of a map creator/editor and less like a custom game. By this i mean remove the money system, and get rid of the limit cap on scenery, you can leave them on the other categories like vehicles, but for scenery it really minimized what map creators can do.

2.create a better way of lining up walls, no matter how hard i try they never line up perfectly, if there was an auto aligner that you could toggle on and off that could dramatically reduce the time and frustration of working with walls.

3. get rid of, or increase the limit on how many objects you can have on a map, for forge maps. this is the total number of objects you can have on a map, i ran into trouble with this on sandbox. it stopped my map from being as good as i wanted it to be and it restricted the number of weapons and spawners i needed on the map.

4. give some objects the ability to be made into a VIP. take the soccer ball in foundry for example, if you made two soccer goals, and created destination points inside of them, and then turned the soccer ball into a VIP, then you could have a fully functional soccer map, and game type. this could also be applyed to the golf ball in sandbox. (not really forge but close enough)

if you have any ideas, or want to improve or criticize my ideas please feel free to post at will

I used to eat Sammiches all the time, but that time is now over.
EON Sergeant
Spartan Special Ops Corporal

Ability to move around the actual map ( move rocks, walls, buildings, that kind of thing)

I think a sandbox er would be nice, but some people don't even like to take the time in forge so maybe have an option where the map is textured to look like the inside of a warehouse, or the side of a mountain.

Jacoby

I feel forge should be left the way it is except for an item limi on the map ( the reason i say this is because once Me and a buddy made a map for 6 hours straight than when we got done we could place barely any spawn points on the map :().
My supporting argument for leaving forge as is is that if you made your listed improvements it would take no skill to forge an amzing map. One thing that makes todays good maps great is the fact that they overcame the challenges that forge has to offer.
Also where would your pride be in a map that you made with barely any work or effort.
Plus if you add those specialized items as you all suggest (loops, corkscrews, etc) you would see so many of those maps it would get old anyways.
Case closed.
And for all of you who actually took the time to read this all thank you for your time.

i see what your saying , but i think that peoples creativity would keep maps interesting. i still think that the wall auto align would be good, it wouldn't make forge super easy, but it might help build better maps

thanks to everyone for commenting and adding to this diccusion

I agree with Jacoby04 in that forge shouldn't be too easy. You should have to put effort into making a good map. Here is what I think should be added:

1. The ability to change the texture of objects. Not just scenery, but the map itself as well. Maybe even vehicles, but i'm not so sure on that.

2. An undo button would be very very helpful

The reason the money system is there so ur xbox 360 won't crash and explode u idiot

Kind of like Far Cry 2?

We don't need 40,000+ objects, but something similar would be great.

  • 08.17.2009 9:23 PM PDT

yea it wouldn't be enough objects that it would crash the xbox, but more than we have now
or each sub-category could have a limit instead of individual items

Now that would actually be a good idea.

This is my idea have a map maker for the walls boxes windows and other big permanent things then go through with the forge were used to to add weapons minor scenery vehicles etc.
