Subject: Halo Reach: The Ultimate Failure?

God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble. Therefore will not we fear, though the earth be removed, and though the mountains be carried into the midst of the sea; Though the waters thereof roar and be troubled, though the mountains shake with the swelling thereof.” – Psalms 46:1-3

So, I have been reading through the forums gaining knowledge here and there and losing some brain cells over there. ( you know what threads you are.)

I have come to the final conclusion that none of you know a single thing about how a game is developed ( mind a select few of you do) you request things that are near impossible with current technology.( some of the environments and other atmospheric elements you suggest are just unreachable)

I sit here wondering do any of you have a valid well thought idea or just Spam ( which I consider 99% of the current threads in Reach forum and other forums alike)

I am posing a question to the seniored and grizzled ancients of bungie.net what do you think Halo: Reach's major focus points should be?

Campaign?

MP?

Both?

Gameplay?

Replay?

or just a game thats fun to play?

I guess what I am asking is do you want a real game or this crap thats been handed to us from every game Dev for the last 5 to 6 years, that they are trying to pass off as videogames.

Thanks,

The DudeGuy

P.S

One last thing Thanks bungie for atleast trying to cater to the true hardcore fans that you have left.

We appreciate that you are even attempting to create a game following the story of reach.

Just do it right =O lol

Its quite simple. Bungie is going to make us something that they think is fun, and hope that we like it too. Just like always.

I must counter that statement with this.

That may be so but look at halo 3, it in my opinion is the best shiny piece of {insert bad word} ever created.

Yes it looked pretty yes it had beautiful environments, But, the replay value that was in halo and halo 2 was just not there.

I ask you tell me one moment in halo 3 that you want to re-experience over and over again.

I tell you ther eis not one that i would like to experience more than twice.

I have to go so I will post some more when I get home

Snakie Purple.

"Hamdog, Hamdog, Hamdog, Hamdog"-Hamdog.

Twatter

Thank you. It's amazing, OP, how many kids think anything can be added in just over a year. The game has been in development for 2-3 years, I'm sure there is a bunch of good stuff packed in to keep us happy.

These kids should be taking typing lessons, anyways....

In every halo match i've played i have experience a unique, amazing moment. I don't know how you play halo 3, how much you've played halo 3, and how good you are at halo 3, but i haven't played another game to this day with as much possibilities and breathe-taking moments as halo 3. It is your opinion and you are entitled to it, and i respect that, but i disagree with you completely.

Do you really think kids and even teenagers and adults that come on here that play Halo really know what capabilities the Halo 3 engine and other comparable Xbox game engines have?

Thats just ridiculous. This forum is for people to discuss ideas/wants/suggestions for Halo: Reach whether you think they are possible or not. My guess is you dont really know what a game engine is capable of unless you work for a game studio that no one knows about. Which isnt likely.

Ultimate failure? Yes.

Halo 2 and Halo 3 were a complete failure to the first, and adding even more games to a highly overrated series is just overkill. Times four.

Yeah if by failure you mean selling 30 billion copies all over the world and making 80 gagillion dollars, then yeah, I guess youre right... It is a failure.

  • 08.17.2009 6:51 PM PDT

I dont understand how you can call a game that got rated better than any
other first person shooter ever, a failure.

That's what happens when oblivious idiots don't look at the quality of the game, but instead say "OMG! Let's go play zombies with people on Xbox Live!" It's only a false feeling of pride and a feeling that people actually belong to a cliche.

Humans were given the gift to think, but yet few actually use it.

Oh I would be more than happy to tell you more than one moment i would want to re-experience my friend, And I shall be completely honest.
Beating Legendary.
My first ever game of matchmaking.
Beating annual the first time.
Finally getting my overkill.
My first game of cops and robbers.
Each and every rank up.
Shall I continue?

Also with respect to Halo and the good makers of it.
I think this post is a failure.
Sorry to be rude.

""We meet again, young one. I am the last of those who gave you breath and shape and form, millions of years ago. I am the last of those your kind rose up and ruthlessly destroyed. And our answer is at hand."

The environments in Halo 3 are my biggest gripe. Campaign too short. Most of the MP levels are lack-luster.

I only have like 4 maps that I actually enjoy playing.

To show my experience playing halo 2 I point to my Linked GT.
On halo 3 I point to these as everyone of them is mine.

and

http://www.bungie.net/Stats/Halo3/Default.aspx?player=A+flopp y+clock

as you can see my Experience is not in question it is yours.

I have beaten halo 3 campaign many times.

I have almost every achievement aside from the new ones coming with ODST.

What my issue is is that I actually don't play halo 3 anymore as it got boring.

halo 2 and halo CE did not.

For me it's exactly the opposite. Halo 2 got boring. Halo CE is ok. Halo 3 is awesome.

Look at how many games i played on Halo 3, and not counting the campaign missions i played before getting xbox live

I think that they produce games that THEY would want to replay first and foremost. Multiplayer is second with the ability to change settings.

The campaign in the Halo games has become less compelling to play as the series has advanced. The multiplayer has become better (Depending on which side of the fence you're on).

Halo 1 has my favourite campaign ever (I haven't played the multiplayer for it so I can't comment).

There needs to be a serious sense of how vulnerable humanity is in the campaign. This was the most crippling loss in the Human-Covenant war, and it needs to be portrayed as such. Marines coming out with smart-ass comments (Unless IWHBYD is on) simply won't do when you consider that their friends and family could very well be dead.

Yeh, I agree. I wouldn't get rid of the smart-ass comments altogether though, but if they get less frequent as the campaign goes on and the destruction gets worse. Also if the voice acting was good enough to portray the hollowness of the smart-ass comments and the vulnerability underneath that would be great.

I have to disagree with you there I'm afraid. I think a good few people also disagree with you. You see there are a huge number of people who play Halo 3 every day, both multiplayer and single player, who I would imagine want to experience "those moments" as they continue to play it and re-experience the game.

In fact, just by glancing at your Gamertag linked to your Bungie.net Account I can see that you played over 1000 multiplayer games. This must mean that you wanted to experience the multiplayer aspect of the game many times yourself, even if you haven't played this year at all.

Furthermore seeing as there are only 10 levels in Halo 3's campaign and yet you have played 24 campaign levels. You must have wanted to re-experience moments from those levels or you would never have played them.

Conclusion; Don't talk bollocks.

Yarr, I'm a pirate.

Of course the game should be fun to play. I don't think Halo 2 was as good as it could have been. I think Halo 3 was a drastic improvement over its predecessor. I think ODST will be fun to play for at least a few years, and if things keep going the way they are, Reach should also be a game worth buying. I'm not looking for another Halo 1, I honestly don't think anything can come close to what made that game special, but as far as imitations go, the last couple games have been pretty sweet.
