Subject: Halo Reach: The Ultimate Failure?

God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble. Therefore will not we fear, though the earth be removed, and though the mountains be carried into the midst of the sea; Though the waters thereof roar and be troubled, though the mountains shake with the swelling thereof.” – Psalms 46:1-3

Its quite simple. Bungie is going to make us something that they think is fun, and hope that we like it too. Just like always.

I must counter that statement with this.

That may be so but look at halo 3, it in my opinion is the best shiny piece of {insert bad word} ever created.

Yes it looked pretty yes it had beautiful environments, But, the replay value that was in halo and halo 2 was just not there.

I ask you tell me one moment in halo 3 that you want to re-experience over and over again.

I tell you ther eis not one that i would like to experience more than twice.

I have to go so I will post some more when I get home

I have to disagree with you there I'm afraid. I think a good few people also disagree with you. You see there are a huge number of people who play Halo 3 every day, both multiplayer and single player, who I would imagine want to experience "those moments" as they continue to play it and re-experience the game.

In fact, just by glancing at your Gamertag linked to your Bungie.net Account I can see that you played over 1000 multiplayer games. This must mean that you wanted to experience the multiplayer aspect of the game many times yourself, even if you haven't played this year at all.

Furthermore seeing as there are only 10 levels in Halo 3's campaign and yet you have played 24 campaign levels. You must have wanted to re-experience moments from those levels or you would never have played them.

Conclusion; Don't talk bollocks.

Sorry you have failed to gain understanding of my statement.

I Like halo 3 but I do not love it as much as I did halo and halo 2.

I played halo 2 campaign easily 200-300 times through.

That's legendary runs included.

Halo 3 I have beaten countless times with friends god knows how many time sI have helped my friend tony get achievements.

Just enjoy the damn game!
Who cares about BR vs AR

Campaign needs to be amazing, even though I will play the MP more.

I also think Halo 3's campaign [BAD WORD!] hard. It was dull, but Halo 2's was far better.

Yep they should focus on the campaign.

Replayability has been the #1 factor in Halo games from the beginning. I'm sure Bungie will continue with Reach

  • 08.19.2009 3:20 PM PDT

Gameplay and replayability are both the most important factors in a video game, IMO. Without good, fun gameplay, you can't really have a fun time with either Single-Player or Multi-Player. Without replayability, it just becomes a somewhat fun but easily forget-able game, like the new Wolfenstein game. However, good gameplay also adds in a lot of replayability. After all, you wouldn't be playing a game which mechanics you don't like, right?

I'd also like to keep any "Epic fail/win" comments on the game itself to a minimum, it's still over a year away, and we know very little about the game.

Floodians whom I'm in a love square with:

camer guy 65
D A F T (daft_punk)
Sacred Flea

I watch this on loop when I'm bored.

The only thing I'm hoping for is weildable Jackal shields, screw everything else.

In fact, Halo Reach should just be called "Jackal shields and more Jackal shields" and you play as a Jackal shield dual-weilding Jackal shields and must save the universe from the army of Jackal shields led by the Jackal shield.

For me it's exactly the opposite. Halo 2 got boring. Halo CE is ok. Halo 3 is awesome.

Look at how many games i played on Halo 3, and not counting the campaign missions i played before getting xbox live[/quote]

GT: Clerks

For me, video games are mainly an escape. I am not really into the competitive side of them, as much as the obstacle of overcoming an encounter with a close friend, or two. The original Halo was never meant to be played on the scale that Halo 3 is played on (and how could it be? There were no console-based esports back then). Thus, it was a wonderfully immersive experience to sit in my basement with a friend and play through the campaign (AotCR).
Now, I am 21-years-old and about to start my life, but that same friend and I still play games together, and we are always saddened by the flimsy co-op multiplayer games of recent years.
Thankfully, Blizzard exists.

Sounds like a bunch of Justin Bieber wannabes in here. I bet you all wear skinny jeans too.

If this really is the last Halo game developed by Bungie, I think campaign and replayability are key.

If your going to have a finale, why not make it grand?

Bungie makes it Rain.

Who knows how Reach, but if I were to guess how it would turn out, it would be like halo 3, only with less of any halo 2 weapons/elements, and alot more of Halo CE elements.

I personally don't have anything against halo ce, it is a classic after all, however, I still think bungie is too forgetfull on the positive things of halo 2, particularly the music, ambience, and the expansive halo universe they created in that game.

I know many halo ce fans hated halo 2, but that dosen't mean thar bungie should remove and forget everything halo 2 brought, in order to cater to halo ce fans.
IMO, I think halo 3 has a weak campaign that screams halo ce way too much, but I guess what makes it appealing to most players is those graphics.

The only thing I ask of bungie is to give me indepth Story, great Cutscenes, and amazing visuals that imerse me in the universe of halo!

I do not care about multiplayer I want MY campaign back The old school style of Bungie.

Not what these newer and younger Employees think the game needs.

I want what the Veteran Bungie employees think the game needs.

I want you to go into detail pull all the cards from the bible and implement them in such a way that it blows our MINDS!

Re-live Marathon:Durandal. Get it today for 800 Microsoft points on the marketplace.

i know what you mean, people dont understand that the 360 has limitations.

"We want unlimited Items and no budget limit in Forge!"

have fun crashing your console... even when u budget glitch foundry and u go as far as u can go until u run into the item limit, if enough is merged, itll flash at you and somewhat lag if ur in forge. Forge is pretty much almost the best it can be. there are some things that can be addressed, which im sure bungie is looking into.

If it is to be a defining game for bungie then they should start doing something very few games have. And with Reach I see this being very possible. It needs to have a good campaign and an equally good Multiplayer. Now you dont want to steer away from what made the Halo games fun and thats the ability to just pick it up and be able to play. Add combustibles into the map and other things which will keep it in competition with other companies. And thats another thing we need to realise is that this is a company, and as long as they make money doing what they do they will continue to do it. To be honest however there arent that many limitations when you look at the processing power of a 360. It all has to do with the code and the game engine of the game. So most likely its either going to be a better game than Halo 3 or a standard game remake of halo 3.

Hey..whoa... I r nawt dumb.

But why are you saying Reach is going to absolutely suck? I have a feeling this will be the definite Halo game. I think Bungie is ACTUALLY listening to our suggestions this time. Sure, they don't make responses to what we say, but for obvious reasons. They're listening to us...they're waiting...silently...

Now, I know Halo 3 was the worst Halo game by far, but who's to say people can't learn from their mistakes?

I pray to god that they are not listening to the majority of ideas on here!

If they did the game would be SO dumb and so Laggy and so Impossible to play it would fail utterly!

All they need to do is make basically make exactly halo 3 MP with minor tweaks and AN ACTUAL CAMPAIGN not the BS they tried to pass off as a campign.

Oh and for the love of god bungie take out the frackin Death barriers1

Wtf guys you ruined our fun by putting them every 10 feet!!!!!!!

There are some very intelligent ideas on this forum that Bungie should definitely look at. I just recently saw one thread that had a lot of very good ideas to revamp the Campaign experience. You should check it out. I'll find a link.

I feel it's unfair you group all of them under the "Terrible Ideas That Would Make Halo Fail" category.

You cant say the game is going to be a failure when youve seen little to nothing about it. And for those people who say it will be utterly and epicly amazing, dont give your hopes up. Remember theres been plenty of times games with alot of hype have disappointed people, and some games thought to be bad have actually turned out to be amazing. Now what makes a game great is pushing boundaries and being unparalled in the game market. It is important to listen to the ideas of the community even though the majority probably wont be used. And the boundaries are very creative and they have altered the game experience quite a bit, however I am neutral to them.

"Everything works itself out. The only thing that matters is whether you want it to or not."

Last Refuge - Operation Phoenix is in effect. From the ashes, we will rise.

Hmmm, it's been quite a bit since I last posted on the public forums. Alright, here I go.

I think that Bungie is developing a game, that is, quite simply put, a game that's fun to play. Isn't that something every game developing company strives to do? Something that will get people to buy the game, and enjoy it.

If I were to go into specifics, I really think that Halo: Reach should really focus on Campaign, as Halo 3 really left me quite disappointed in their Campaign making skills. I think that the Gameplay, MP, and Replayability is quite nailed down though.

I have to agree. There's no point in shooting down ideas. We don't know how well they'll work until we see the final product. Who knows, we could see a fresh take on Halo: CE gameplay incorporated with some new ideas. That would satisfy everyone.
