For something so long and profound it certainly was written very poorly. I get the point of the story, but if presentation was your goal, you delivered horribly.

Why don't you try doing better sir?

Not only is my knowledge of Christianity limited due to my utter contempt for all things religion, I'm not about to invest an hour and a half writing an essay on how Halo and Christianity are connected.

Than why don't you respect those who do take their time to indicate the obvious and sometimes less obvious aspects of the game to other people. Besides if you hold contempt for religion why did you even access this forum anyway?

Because I'm allowed to do whatever I want. Again, if someone tried to turn this in as an essay it'd get a C at best because they write like -blam!-. Cool idea, horrible execution. Upon reading some of your other posts, too, I've come to the conclusion that you're a religious idiot who probably is scared of going to hell or some other place that doesn't exist.

What did religion ever do to you?

Propagated thousands of lies that have led to billions of lives lost thanks to mindless wars in the name of something that doesn't exist.

To say you hate religion is to say you hate literally billions of people because they have a belief system in a monotheistic or polytheistic God or deity, which they claim usually tells their people to be good, peace loving and cooperable with others.

Then why are there so many Bible thumpers out there who are filled with gluttony waiting to tell me I have my place in Hell? By the way, hating religion does not mean you hate people who practice religion. That's a fallacy.

Now if you're going to say you hate religion because of the crusades, holocaust or even 9/11 first you have to realise that all of these events were influenced by a warped and twisted version of pure religion. For example Jesus Christ preached "don't kill people" then the Catholic church initiates the slaughter of millions of Arabs and Muslims. Now who do you think was being rediculous out of those two?

Anyone who causes any violence in the name of Jesus Christ. That means both of them.

Not only that but never use war as an insentive to attack the religious. Stalin, Hitler, Ghengis Khan and other dictators were all Atheist and they killed several million each, more than all religious wars combined.

History begs to differ. None of them killed millions in the name of Atheism. Nice try.

I never understand why Atheism and Religion are always at odds with each other. "Oh no the Christian tried to convert me! Hate crime!"

Because Christians and any other devoted religious person cannot handle the fact that they are believing a lie. That religion was invented by man in order to explain what had no answer. How old did Genesis say the earth was? 4,000 years old? Do you believe that? That's why Atheists don't like stupid theists who only rely on a book that has no author and has been interpreted thousands of ways through thousands of years. We're all atheists in some way. In the words of Richard Dawkins, "Some just take it one God further."

Did you ever think that they were trying to look out for your best interests? By to trying save you from what they think is eternal death? I'd be pretty flattered if someone tried to do that for me.

I wouldn't. Do you believe that when you die you will have 72 vigins waiting for you? If someone came out in the street and said you'd have everything you ever wanted and all you had to do was devote your life praying to an orange in the sky that might not even exist? Has there ever been any person that's come back from the dead to tell you Heaven is real? Challenge what is already established. That's why science is fact and religion is fiction. Science is always changing and challenging accepted methods. Religion never moves forward and blindly accepts what has been written as truth with no verification whatsoever.

Both sides need to relax. Way i see it science tries to answer the "how" of the universe while religion tries to answer the "why" mainly with some of the "how".

No, religion tries to explain how, and fails. It is not based on fact but rather perception, man's perception on how things must have happened. In no way should you try to say religion has any ground as a LOGICAL explanation to how things work. Does God make a basketball team win a game, or does the players' combined effort?

Don't think people are educated on the matter because they skimmed through a few pages of "The God Delusion".

Three pages of The God Delusion make more sense than the entire Bible combined.

It's not my fault he has Assburgers and thinks it's okay to kill Muslims, but when it's Christians it's bad.

I see you seem to think that every Christian is a crazy white supremacist that believes they should kill every other race?

Then I suppose by the same regard, we can say every German is a N@zi?

You're barking up the wrong tree go tell that to Mr. Assburgers over there making those claims. All I'm pointing out is what he said was -blam!- retarded.

Indeed it was, but two wrongs do not make a right.

I believe in God. I believe the taking of a life is never acceptable. I believe that anyone who says they are killing "in the name of God" is a horrible person using God as a scapegoat for their own pathetic and selfish wants. I believe that anyone under any faith believes this, and if they say otherwise they are fooling themselves and twisting the message of religion.

Of course there is no magic man sitting in a chair in the clouds. That is ridiculous. I believe God is not a physical being, but a spiritual one. God is the Universe, the Universe is God. I believe that so-called "Big Bang Theory" is a scientists word for Creation. How is it possible that everything in existence sat in one small mass and then exploded without reason? How did that happen without any push? I believe God made it happen and let the Universe do the rest.

Why cannot we not simply tolerate each other for what we think? It is a sad fact that humans will never truly accept each other for who we are.

I see LuK the Soviet is back. Okay well you're obviously an offensive, abusive guy with no sense to be polite and state your opinions calmly so I don't really see any point in replying to your ranting after this. I don't hate anyone (I assume you meant regarding the Crusades), I just want history to be accurately portrayed. Funny how this thread started off as a detailed look into the extent that Halo was influenced by religion and now it's disintegrated into a "hate all religion" warzone. Let me ask you this, when (quote me) did I ever call you an insulting name, mock your beliefs or insinuate pathetically false claims about you? Never? But you started to do so with me? Nice.

You, my good sir, have been terribly miss-informed about Christians. If you ever met a Christian, and told them exactly what you wrote, I'm sure they would have no problem sitting down and discussing it with you. Not forcing the Bible up your nose. TALKING about it. Christian's who behave the way you described do, in fact, exist. But they don't represent our faith. The vast majority of Christians are used to people challenging their faith with accusation. And they (myself included) will gladly explain to you what they can.

If only more people were like you. Unfortunately, a good portion of people I have talked to in real life do not bode well when I challenge their beliefs, but I will steadfastly take challenges towards mine, and then proceed to enforce what I believe on every front necessary. Religion is not a right or a wrong issue with me, it's a at least believe in something because there is enough proof that it's plausible issue. If you see someone spouting off some nonsense about Scientology to kids wouldn't you at least wonder why the hell anyone could believe that kind of stuff? I'm the same way with a Judeo-Christian God.

"I need a weapon."

EXACTLY. Soon as you create a protagonist for the audience to "believe" in, he has to be a metaphor for Jesus. Etc etc.

However, that being said, the thread was still an interesting read and EXTREMELY well written! Well done :)

Not an atheist, by the way; apatheist is pretty much the only logical path I can see that preserves the human humility that we all - atheist and christian - preach.

Thanks everybody for keeping me busy for half an hour :) Always enjoy a healthy discussion on things like this :D

Let me help in trying to clarify a lil bit what the whole purpose of Halo's story is all about (In my opinion of course). What I beleive bungie is trying to convey is the message of "delivering" hope to those who have lost it or on the verge of giving up because of the "overwhelming" circumstances that they may be in at that particular time and moment. CORTANA for example is a SYMBOL of HOPE (A glowing flame) that must be passed on in order for "humanity" to survive...For if we lose hope we have given up ourselves to whatever evil force is out there. Master Chief is a "template" of a faceless hero... which means it can be any one of us that can bring HOPE to someone or a group of people. This is so that we can imagine ourselves having that kind of VALOR. The game's story to me is about passing the Metaphorical "torch" of hope and what you can some times go through (i.e. internal battles or wars) to deliver that HOPE. EXAMPLE: You have a very close friend that has lost a loved one to something..disease, accident or even a divorce. Point is your buddy is goin through some tough times...It's up to you as his/her good friend to deliver something that can inspire LIFE once again in that person...This something is HOPE. While there are many references to the Bible which I have confirmed....This to me is the MOST important. Pass the torch people..... Be an awsome brother, sister, friend, father or mother to someone that is important to you in your life....and you in essence have BECOME a HERO to that person.
