jesus is a genetically altered super soldier that kills stuff.

i can definetly see the correlation.

I definitely agree with most, if not all, of those connections in your post. The Covenant have the most interesting role in my opinion. They could fit into a variety of places.

Im a christian myself, and I think that you realy did good work...
You sure have readen the bible, much of what you said made sense, and I think that Atheists (Is it how it is spelled? Im not native english speaking) would realy get confused, maybe even reconsider...

Keep up the good work!

I'm 23, I have a house, dog, girlfriend, job and I have no interest in any fanboyism so if you're thinking about sending me a childish PM, don't be surprised when I don't call back.

I award this thread no points

Nah.

Biblical alegories are pretty much inevitable. Even atheists have to try pretty hard to avoid them.

so true. The bible ties in to too many events in history

I'm an atheist and I know more about the Bible than most "Christians," so no, I didn't get confused by the post. In fact, I think that mine makes more sense:

Halo series = Crusades
Covenant = Christians
Humans = Muslims
Covenant = Jews
Elites = Separatist Jews (i.e. Zealots, Sicarii)
Forerunner = Jews of the Old Testament and Christ (actually Muslims according to the Quran)
Precursors = God

This is very nice. Well done. Everything you have pointed out intertwines flawlessly, and I can only agree.

I do believe a lot of games try to intertwine the Bible with the plot of its story.

You didn't pass Comprehension did you? It is an abstract view in which one is represented by the events of another. This might be too much for your five year old mind, but oh well. I don't waste time explaining to the slow-witted.

The pure amount of story and art Bungie puts in their games is exactly what makes me love it so much more than CoD. Gameplay is only a fractional element in my opinion.

First of all, great point. As a Christian, I look for Christ and the Bible in a lot of things, if not everything, and Halo is my favorite game so kudos to your great point. I remember reading something about Christian symbols in Halo awhile ago, but I don't remember where. That point on John 117 and John 1:17 is really great.

I was considering what the other Spartans would represent in your allegory. It's been awhile since I read the books, so I can probably come up with something as I re-read them, but maybe the idea will give you something to chew on.

I was trying to compare them to the disciples, but the numbers of those in the Spartan II program are way over 12. There are 33 candidates that survived the augmentation process. That was how old Jesus is believed to be when he died. This is sort of a long shot, but that could speak of how important those 33 years of life are. I mean, Jesus Christ is the most influential life ever to walk the face of this earth, so his years of life in human flesh are extremely important.
In the Halo world, those 33 Spartans did key things to save the human race. I know that sort of clashes with John representing Jesus, but he was the best and surviving member of the Spartan II program.

Idk, its a idea. Thanks for the though provoking post!! I am sure I will add more here as I come up with it.

I was waiting to see if anyone else got that. Not specifically here, just everywhere else.
Actually, you have the numbers transposed. It is G617. Biblegateway.com is down for the moment, so I will type out from a physical Bible, Genesis 6:17 [NIV]:
I am going to bring floodwaters on the earth to destroy all life under the heavens, every creature that has the breath of life in it. Everything on earth will perish.

That is epically sweet!!

The problem with the Bible is that it covers so much ground, almost anything can be related to it. However, these are some great connections that make you wonder whether those are just pure coincidence..

Adam 360 - Brilliant write! I enjoyed the read. I'll ponder on it and see if I have anything to add (that hasn't been already added).

Well...here's a quick thought. I sometimes think of the Prophets as the Pharisees. They tended to give Christ/MC the most trouble. They were all religious, yet still blind to the actual truth that Christ/MC was trying to reveal.

Anywho, chew on it...I gotta get some sleep. :)

Freedom has two parts: potential and resolution; as metaphors have two parts : form and interpretation; of course, the two are intertwined. Metaphor lines the road to freedom, as symbols and words are the bricks and mortar of meaning. Freedom being the briocoleus, the mason.

I've definitely thought the same since halo 1, great article. It is a great allegory, and I think we should leave it at that.

  • 09.30.2009 11:34 PM PDT

Very nicely thought out, but honestly if you dug hard enough, I'm sure you could make Halo an allegory to almost any religion.

I've always noticed Halo having biblical ties with christianity and you got a lot of the stuff down, good job.

If you ever have a question about the storyline of Halo, ask me. I have extensive knowledge about it and I want others to know about how intricate and exciting it is.

Very well thought out my friend. While I don't think everything is true because I see flaws, I've always seen biblical indications in the Halo storyline. Also the "Secret of Santrap" thing that happened a while back had many biblical things in it. The map valhalla is religiously tied. The vikings believed that when they died honorably in battle, they would meet the gods in valhalla, an endless paradise.

Hmmm, I don't know what to say...

It always has seemed like that

Currently Playing:
Halo: CE
Halo 2
Halo 3
Halo 3 ODST
Halo Reach

I've always wondered about the religious parallels in the Halo Universe. Ever since Halo: CE my friends and I started making comparisons. Awesome research by the way.

Who what's to join my buddy club?

Nice but i say humans = Chirstians
Covenant = men

now i sow halo as the end days were the anti-chist will re up (Truth) and make a lot of followers and when the ones who would not join team where cast down and killed (UNSC) Now for me god in tis is god and chirst is himself also. When the war rages a flood of fire hits the earth A.K.A the flood. Witch herts both sides. but when god fights armmaeden (ARK) the belivers of chirst win (the rings) and all that are unholy (Flood and Covennt)ae cast down to death.

Also NIV bible is not that right, us kjb it may be hard t read but its worth it

If you think you're the best fluffy, gun shootin', Brute pwning guy around, you are sadly mistaken... Fear the dreaded "mew"!

The Flood, the Ark and the Covenant are undoubtably biblical references.
Maybe the others are too... I just never considered them.

I also thought of the name "Halo" not as a stupid name for the ringworlds, but as a multi-meaning between the ringworlds and the over-zealous Covenant that's only wish is to have peace with one another. (Everyone is equal on The Great Journey)

I don't really know about that "It's finished," line though, I think it is just a reference to Halo: Combat Evolved's, "No, I think we're just getting started."

Still, I admire the amount of research you put into this thread and I am glad there is another Not-Halo-Story-Newb here on Bungie.net.
