Subject: Jumpy Animation? I Hope Not

I watched the ViDoc "Desperate Measures" for ODST and noticed that the movement of the characters in some scenes seemed very ...jumpy (sharp jerky gestures), Is it just the video quality making the characters act that way, or am I gonna see this sloppy exaggerated animation in the final product?

Any particular parts of the video?

Tank beats Ghost!
Tank beats Hunters!
Tank beats Everything!!!

Yeah I know what you mean, they move sorta cartoony? is that the word to describe it?

I'm watching the video right now, and I can't see any jumpy animations.

The part where Romeo complains about using a sniper rifle inside a covenant ship, when Dutch puts his helmet on the table, and the scene with the pelican getting hit by two banshees.

Well, not exactly jumpy, just exaggerated.

That doesn't look jumpy, it's just them moving quickly. It's all just applying to Newton's laws of physics. Here is what jumpy animation looks like, the part where the guy walks.

I keep watching that pelican scene and I just can't agree with you there. Their movements seem too fast (particularly them hitting the deck). The animation in Halo 3 was more fluid. The Marines and ODSTs in Halo 3 looked like they were hitting the deck smoothly (realistically). In the pelican scene where the ODSTs hit the deck, it looked like magnets were attached to them and they just zipped to the floor.

Perhaps the explosion knocked them down?

"Exaggerated" would be the word to describe some of the animation in the video.

Doubt it. They would've been knocked down with limbs spread out if that were the case.

I admit it looks jumpy, but it's still okay.

On a side note that was a fantastic Machinima right there

Posting on bungie.net should require that the user has had to have read a chapter book all the way through.

To me, the ViDoc seems smoother than Halo 3 (*shudders*) except the Pelican part. I see what you mean. The Pelican gets hit, then jerks into the ground instantly, but apart from that I didn't notice any others. I can cope with one.

Bungie is just going for a more film approach, making the characters move accordingly to their emotion, rather than just acting like mannequins. As for the Pelican scene, it's just the camera angle. (imagine seeing that in IMAX, your stomach and brain would switch positions.)
