Got any pictures or stories from way back when Halo 2 was in it's glory days?

Post them here!

Well Halo 2 was just about the biggest thing in my life from about 2003 to 2007... Before it came out I scoured the net for information, screenshots and videos of the game. I had a countdown running in my school diary and checked it off every day. I used to tag the Halo 2 symbol all over my school and wanted to get a tattoo... I Love Bees and an awesome marketing campaign was getting everyone so hyped and it was just awesome!

The impact Halo 2 had on me, even before it came out, reinforces my belief that it is the greatest Halo game. Sure it was hyped big time, but it did look amazing.
November 9 was right in the middle of my final high school exams, and the day before my final maths exam, but I was still there at 12am to pick it up and played it until 4am. (I failed the exam...)
The campaign blew my mind. Amazing.
I couldn't get Xbox Live working until the 12th of November, but once I did, honestly, my life changed.

Halo 2 on Xbox Live is in the top 10 of my most memorable life experiences.
I used to play it everyday, sometimes for over eight hours at a time. I called in sick to work to play it.
I loved all the glitches and tricks and getting out of maps. Halo 2's 'faults' were what made the game so great for me and many others.

Then I went to Japan on exchange for a year. I had to say goodbye to all the guys I had played with day after day. It was sad...
Well I couldn't handle it! It wasn't long before I bought an Xbox in Japan and got back on Live! Needless to say it caused a little trouble with my host family. For a few different reasons I ended up changing families. The internet at the new family wouldn't work with Xbox Live, so I carried my Xbox to an internet cafe once a week to play Halo 2 all day.
Yeah, I was devoted.

This game changed my life.
(Of course, I was a HUGE Halo CE fan, but my fandom exploded around the release of Halo 2)
Halo 3 is awesome and all, but the whole mood around Halo 2, the hype, the teasing, the trickle of information, the discussion on the forums, the story theories, everything was just perfect.
Some people say Halo 2 was flawed and rushed and all that, but I believe it was perfect.

Thanks Bungie.

If you never got the chance to play Halo 2 regularly in the first few months after its release you honestly missed out. The days before that update were amazing. The Xbox community on the whole was a lot nicer back then too. You could make a friend in every game you played.

If you were a part of those times, I raise my glass to you and think back to those times.

Don't take life too seriously, no one gets out alive anyway.

Australia

That does indeed sound like great times Skibur. Carrying that bid ole box to an internet cafe? That is a halo fan true and true. :)

My most memorable moment was when I had around 6 mates over and we were all playing 4 player split screen on this small 32inch screen, headlong (of course), team death match. Those were some bloody great times, especially when we played Jugernaught once and I got a sniper + active camo. They were so clueless, :). Thankyou for an awsome time, and many more to come bungie.

All it took was a stew of whoopass.

You are lucky to me.I never played Halo 2 online until after Halo 3 came out.I have never even heard of Live until Halo 3 came out! =[
Edit:Also one of my memories of Halo 2 was when I have beaten the first Arbiter mission (sorry, forgot the name).Yeah,I just wasn't a fan of the Flood back then,so I hated the Flood missions.

I used to play it so much too. Mostly multiplayer mind you. Getting the multiplayer map pack with the update which made sticky grenades more powerful I believe was fantastic. I mean I used to play all the old maps like Headlong, Lockout, Zanzibar etc. So when Relic, Terminal, Containment, and that High Charity map came out it, it was so beautiful ^^

Speaking of Headlong. Did anyone ever used to have sword duels on that hanging girder? It never worked properly on system link cuz it looked as if someone had fallen off. Crazy times. That map was so perfect. The call outs I had were fantasticly hilarious. Apartments, Taxi rank, Mayor's office hahaha. Good times indeed.

The maps were perfect. Turf!!! Ah I forgot that one. The joy swinging doors could bring to a player. Or the train on Terminal, it got many a kill when someone went for the overshield ^^ Relic really stood out as the perfect one flag map.

Skibur, that was powerfully good writing.

For 9 hours, on Nov 8th, my grandson and I experienced an online community in person. 2 city blocks were filled with people, some with tables, chairs, coffee, laptops galore and even small barbecues. Pocket protectors were everywhere. It was a 'Happening' for geeks. Families came, doctors, lawyers and Indian Chiefs and everyone was in the exact same mood, feeling good.

Vendors marched up and down the sidewalk, stopping and chatting with folks. As midnight drew near all the vendors, as if on cue, suddenly just gave all their wares to the crowd. There we were, eating hot Round Table peperoni and bacon at 11:00 pm. Hailed as hero's I'm sure each vendor remembers that night with fondness.

Finally the great moment came and when I grasped the case holding the jewel, we turned into Gollum's. I clutched the ring to my chest and ran for the car, oblivious to the rest of the universe. We drove home cautiously, lest we be delayed by cops.

We played all night and the next day and to this day we still play this game once in a while. Yeah, we remember.

/And To Those Who Belive| You WIll Tread The Lightened Path/ As Did Those Before Even Us|\

My friend went out one day and randomly bought an Xbox. With it he got Halo 2 which i heard was meant to be a good game. We stuck it on at about 7 and unknowingly went through the entire campagin mode on heroic till 1 in the morning on co-op. I still go and play Metropolisis through to Quarantine Zone back-to-back. It was such an original game story-wise and the controls just sucked me in. About three months later I got a Halo 3 edition 360 for my birthday with Halo 3 then went and got the first and second games for myself which i can still play online!
Even if you get tired of the other Halo titles Halo 2 just stays fresh and sexy!
The greatest game in a long time and totally changed the way i game forever.

R.I.P. Halo 2
11/9/04 - 4/15/10

- B( )B

Damn good times they were, unfortunately I was in 7th grade when it came out and was not allowed to own M rated games. So I bought a PS2. Thankfully though, my friend who was older than me had an Xbox and I was able to play plenty of Halo 1 and 2 back in the day. I'll never forget November 9, 2004, nor will I ever forget the E3 2003 video.

Shortly after Halo 2 had come out, Metal Gear 3 came out, and my friend with the Xbox was also a huge fan of the Metal Gear series. So he and I traded his Xbox + Halo 2 for my PS2 (he rented MGS3) for a short time. I walked to his house with my PS2 and traded consoles with him, as soon as I got back with his Xbox, I got incredibly nauseous. I was so nauseous that I had no desire to play the game I was so greatly looking forward to playing. The next day I stayed home from school and played though the entire game ALL day long while drinking Sprite to sooth my upset stomach.

Rofl, good ole' sprite. I myself spent some sickly days sipping sprite with a straw playing some of my best Halo 2.

BOB, I'm very impressed, I had guessed you were well into your 20's based on the way you post. You are a smart one, in my book.

halo 2 still the best game in the series. long live halo 2.

Dam, I miss the old days playing halo 2 with my old brothers in arms. Thank you my old friends for giving me this account, I shall continue our legacy.

It is funny that I have had halo 2 since it first came out but I never had the chance to play it online. That is until I got a 360 when it first came out. Back then I had dial up so I was unable to play halo 2 live at its prime except during the final year and a half before halo 3 came out. i wish i could turn back time and gotten high speed internet sooner, so that I may have enjoyed halo 2 at its prime. I was too cheap to afford high speed internet back then.

OMG
Master Chief w/o his Helmet!

Stosh <3's me vicariously... at least someone does...

Well since you're going to copy and paste your -blam!- out of Mythic Members I'll do the same thing skibz.

Halo 2 had big effin maps. Halo 3's feel like they're built for schizophrenic 12 year olds who can't handle being out of a gun fight for 5 seconds.

Halo 2's story felt like it was going somewhere, and somewhere effing amazing, the whole way through. The first time I felt that Halo 3 had even acknowledged this amazing story was as the chief flew up to high charity. Plus, we get to go to the ark but not find out anything about it other than the basics? Bull -blam!-. Tying up loose ends my ass.

I must give Halo 3 save films and the like, truly a feature I would like to see implemented in more games.

Halo 2 had semantic moments such as glitching with a room full of friends, that you can't really expect to ever be replicated again on purpose.

Again on the story, the first half of Halo 3 builds up to the revealation of what the Ark is. Then once we're there, the story just kind of shuts off. "Go to point B, find directions to point C, hit a switch at point C" is basically the entire plot for 2 hours of the game. Unfortunately, while the last two levels did a great job of telling the stories they told, they don't lend any details to the amazing environments around them. I thought it was bad enough when the humans in the Halo stories never remarked about the ramifications of what they'd seen (not ONE -blam!- person remarked about the giant -blam!- teleporter on Earth), but now it seems they're just plain blind as soon as they reach the ark.

Also, as far as endings go, the fact that Halo 3's ending was decided by comittee at the last moment is a thing of shame.

Ultimately, I'm still waiting for the sequel to Halo 2, but I don't think it will ever come.

I logged on one day and I didn't exist anymore so I don't know what happened. It was at the MS server log-in and I didn't want to spend forever trying to straighten it out, listening to a South-Asian accent that I can't understand. It would be like "Who's on first"?

So I just grabbed Grumpy2 (it's like Grumpy also). So I became a noob Member again.

Lol, the same thing happened to me, Grumpy. My old account vanished as quickly as Sprite Remix. Too bad, because they both rocked my world. My guess is Bungie deleted my data since I was inactive for about a year. But I'm no expert on these matters...

Rofl, I've worked in commercial construction most of my life. In my capacities I've led crews of 30 to 50 people and I'm the kind of person that is happiest when fully focussed so it looks like I have a frown, constantly. So the people who worked for me and with me dubbed me Grumpy. Who am I to argue.

Haha, I was always wondering that too.

I got mine from my friend who owned the Xbox from my first post. He was my neighbor's cousin, and he just moved into the neighborhood. He had this rule that he get's to choose the names of first timers, and he called me B( )B. That was 6 years ago already, it was about this time of year too, just before I began 6th grade in 2003.

Good times.

I have never read more true words on this website. Before the update that game online was amazing and custom games would go on for hours. And for some reason it was a better community back then as well

Some good memories include seeing Gravemind for the first time and freaking out. Also there was this one time on Terminal 1 Flag that my team had the flag in a warthog and I was driving with no gunner. The whole other team, wraith included, was at my base. My two other teammates were attempting to clear the base out before we drove over there. Eventually it became sudden death and a ghost came to look for us and found us. I weaved in and out of map protecting the flag carrier for a full minute. The whole time I was terrified but laughing at the same time at the situation. Even after a plasma mortar eventually put me out of my misery, it remains one of my favorite moments.

I loved playing SWAT Classic on lvory Tower, it's one of my favourite things. And I always loved the train on Terminal (I love Terminal). I remember I was in a full 'Hog and we were driving to the defending base to plant a bomb, and we got hit by the train. Ah, good times. :)

Check out my Gaming Rig on EVGA Mod Rigs.

I completely agree with everything you just said. I was fortunate enough to be playing on the first night. Halo 2 was really a great change for the Xbox community. For those of us involved I believe we got to experience one of the best periods in online gaming ever.

Even with the ghosting and bxr H2 was probably the best gaming time in my life. I have never had another experience like it. I had high hopes for h3 when it came out but honestly it was just not as great. Even with all of the added features the H2 phenomenon started the xbl reformation and really made it what we see today.

THANKS BUNGIE!!

I had a PS2 when it came out. i never heard of the game before. It was 4th grade when my bros friend brought over his Xbox with halo 2. We didn't play on live, but we played on custom games. Zanzbar to be exact. i picked up a needler and i asked my bro if it was a good gun, he said no. i picked up a sniper and boom! i feel in love with the game. i was saving up for a PS3 waiting for it to come out, i gave up and went with my gut bought an xbox 360 with halo 2 and have never regreted it.

So true =D

I was hooked on BTB. I remember when MM was SMG starts. Playing on Coagulation, you could hold down the entire level with just a sniper (and a BR if you were quick enough).

I have so many good memories of playing H2 back when all of my friends would play.

Unfortunately, I let H2 get the best of me and my school work took a turn for the worse. Wish I didn't let that happen. Oh well :| Live and learn.

Skibur - It was great watching the old vids but I didn't know you knew Dark Helmet. He still comes on HIH once in a while and posts.

In Jan 2005 I saw my first tricking vid. It was DH swordflying to the Scarab gun bridge, he did the RL/sword switch to the pissed off Marines on the Pelican. That was the first ever swordfly in Campaign, I think.

It brought back memories so I thought I'd go ahead and share my last swordflying Campaign vid. I did it out of nostalgia:
