I never really saw how Halo:CE was nonlinear.
The only choice you really make is which drop pod to go after first.

Once a Mythic, always a Mythic. '04 or Bust.

I do agree on many levels. I mean, the feeling of being hunted is a bit much- but Mystery is what it's about. 343 Guilty Spark was a prime example of this. My favourite level by far- Traversing the tunnels, dead covenent, a lone marine (insane).... Good times.

Other halo levels were extremely linear. The Library. Ugh.

Overall though... ODST's sandbox formula has me extremely excited.

I regretfully disagree with your points. The only thing I see that is similar in ODST with Halo: CE is the shield + health system (with stamina as the ODST "shields").

If I may add a comment:

I think the one thing that I loved about Halo: CE that is gone from the other games is how alone you were. You really got a sense you were in a foreign world. Though you had allied Marines with you sometimes, towards the last levels you were completely alone. You'd also find yourself alone on the higher difficulties when all your Marines died. That combined with the fact that Elites didn't speak English in Halo: CE really made it seem like you were alone and abandoned, fighting for humanity without any gratitude. THAT is what keeps me coming back to Halo: CE. After that, the games got more complex and crowded.

I see the trilogy as one long game in several parts. That way all three parts were awesome

Since when was there ever a massive sandbox open world environment in CE? I'm sorry but no. Halo 3 ODST still feels like Halo 2 and 3 to me, largely due to the fact that ODST runs on the Halo 3 engine which was based off Halo 2 tech, so a lot of the same subtle changes in gameplay mechanics, movement speed, weapon range, vehicle camera angles, grenade throwing arcs, animation, etc etc that borderline ruined Halo 2 and 3's gameplay are still in place.

You WANT ODST to be more like CE, but it's not.
