Send me $50 and I'll tell you how to get rich

No it wouldn't. Why would you need training missions. Just do what they do in all the other Halo games. Anyway John 117 (aka master Chief) never took part in the fight. He left in the Pillar of Autumn escaping the attack and ended up on Halo. They even tell you that in Halo 2. Anyway there a plenty of other spartans to play as. Infact I think that all the spartans (including red team from halo wars if Halo wars is connected any way to the rest of the halo universe) except grey team and one or two other spartans.

Not only Red team, but as well as some of Blue team. Fred, and Kelly are also on Reach (Part of Blue Team) while John -A.K.A SPARTAN-117- is with Linda on the orbital space station to erase the memory that hasn't been wiped in one of it's docked ships. So John is there for a while, just in space.

So like ODST they could make you play more then one character. I hope they go that route

John actually fought on a space dock above reach trying to destryoy its nav database before it could fall into covenant hands.
