Subject: Ideas to make Reach's online community better

I was thinking about how the disrespect and inmaturity in Halo3 almost ruined playing iy well I don't want to see that happen. So I made this thread to try and bring attention to this over looked topic. I want the community to provide ways on how we as a community could improve and spread respect to the other players,, and help make sure reach doesn't get corrupted by the disrespect and inmaturity that happened in Halo3. I would like to see ideas on what Bungie could do as well. I will post some deas of my own later.

Use Natal with Reach as the Mic.

It can recognize voices and what you are saying, right? If you have a history of cussing or being abusive to your team mates, it gives you a mute ban for a day or something, so you are automatically muted to your team mates.

I dunno. Sounds like a good idea to me.

Thats not actually a bad idea it could use a report feature or something incase the guy was actually just joking around with his friends or whatever. They actually wouldn't even need to use natal it could just give the xbox a mute if its serious or continous.

But then people could just abuse the system and report needlessly. I'm sure theres some scientifical way of listening to the way a voice sounds and being able to tell whether or not the person is angry, Natal could possibly use that to become an impartial judge.

It wouldn't quite be a ban either, that one player just is automatically muted, if you don't really care about people cussing, you can always unmute him.

Yeah but unfortunately I don't think reach is going to use natal because were going to get the beta a little after odst.

Meh, you never know :)

I'll need to shelve it away in my list of ideas though.

Also, it doesn't need to be in the beta for it to make it with the final game. Natal obviously wouldn't work with FPS controls, so you would use a controller as normal.

One way the community I feel would benefit better would be a custom games search so people can try the maps you created by making it a public match that people can easily hop in and out of... or allowing you to try out maps other people edited in forge, or even just play a regular old match and game type you choose to because you want to practice.... Also keep the ranked games there too, but a custom game search I feel is the biggest asset Halo has been missing since H2.

Yeah I see how that could take some of the competitive edge off which causes some disputes quite often. Thanks for all the comments. I think maybe if bungie put more focus on groups people would join and give the overall community a better sense of well community. It sems that noone really knows eachother so maybe if bungie advertised fan groups and websites more people would get to know eachother and learn to be more social and respectful if they are exposed to others who exibit simmilar behaviors. I think a group dedicated to the matter coul work as well.

Although you could hypothetically monitor somebodies voice in order to figure out if they were "angry" or not, the subtleties of speech and language make it impossible for a computer to take into account the context of the comment. Hence it would take a team of people sitting around listening to conversations and deciding what the comment meant in order to not ban anybody unjustly.

A possible solution is to have a type of three strikes rule. If natal recognizes a swear word three times in a game AND somebody makes a report during that game, then the player gets one black mark. Three marks and they are muted for a week.

Thats a good idea but swear words can still be used like ahh -blam!- I just spilled my soda on me or damn dog, and not actually have them be directed at anybody and someone who simply wanted to report someone for the hell of it comes in and reports them now they can't talk for a week.
I also meant to try and find ways to influence the community to change not just talk about how too punish them.

halo 3 has already set the bar pretty high for a console game community
with all the game/stat tracking features , user created content and super active forums (its like a chat room)

i really couldnt see them adding more than they already have
