I'm not surprised about this actually a lot of my friends had no idea about Halo ODST and don't even bother getting it cuz it's just old for them now.
They were like "ODS- what? Oh well I don't even play xbox live anymore"
it sucks :( but i think it's because people think the halo franchise is over or probably it wasn't advertised well enough.

"It will sell well, and not break records"

Sounds good enough to me. But I find it odd that it says "Microsoft and Bungie" don't think it will sell well. A developer or a publisher will never say that their game will not sell well.

So I call bull-blam!-.

The game is still going to sell well, they are just saying it probably wont sell as many copies as halo 3, probably because of lack of multiplayer

I wish I was still legendary.

Misleading article is misleading.

It says MS spent less money on advertising, and has no source from INSIDE Microsoft that actually says ' we expect diminished sales of this game.'

there's less advertising for a reason - the pure word of mouth. Day after it was announced, my friends at school (who don't use Bnet, kotaku or...well, any gaming site besides the 360 dashboard) came to school and asked excitedly if I'd seen it. If they heard about it in less then a day without logging on to here or a game news site, I'm confident it got the attention it needed.

And to add on to IIamalizard, I think at this point, the halo series has such a good fanbase that the advertising doesn't really play as huge a part as the word of mouth, as llama put it. And to add on to that, the word of mouth of ODST is not tainted. Its been getting extremely positive impressions from literally everywhere.

I won't be getting this game until it comes down in price £40/$60 for an expansion pack. Yeah right.

Modern Warfare 2 for me.

Because a 9-hour non-linear campaign with an open-world environment, 24 multiplayer maps that are integrated with Halo 3, a new exclusive Multiplayer mode, 1000 gamerscore to achieve (a bit more, if you count the Mythic map pack 2 achievements) and *exclusive* access to the beta of a new game is just an expansion.

Irony makes the strongest men fall to their knees!

Yeah, well Microsoft can never guess how a game will turn out right. Seriously, I hate Gears of War, what was the hype on that? Huge. Awful though just awful. Call of Duty...just no. So Microsoft isn't smart with anything they do. The Xbox 360 is loosing it's luster, seriously, I've gone back to MMOs and PC games. There are virtually no games worth purchasing for the Xbox 360.

Champions Online - I don't care how many people say they will get it for the 360 if they make it for the 360, this game is awesome on the PC. The PC is the best gaming machine, it will be around forever. (Or longer then consoles.)

Halo 3 odst has not even started advertising yet!!!!!!!
Whoever wrote that is an idiot.
The only way to know about odst is if youve been on bungie!!!!

  • 08.19.2009 3:37 AM PDT

Plus it said the poll was for ps3 and xbox gamers. Which means that was unfair.

  • 08.19.2009 3:39 AM PDT

Why does everyone keep thinking it's a short campaign? God, Bungie said it's the size of a normal Halo campaign...

=)

  • 08.19.2009 3:48 AM PDT

not only is it actually only ~£30 in the uk, (im getting it for £29.99 with free delivery to arrive on the day or day before release!) and it isnt an expansion, its a;

full free roam environment (hours of non linear fun!) alot larger than several of the halo 3 missions put together.
possibly 8 additional missions which we have no idea of the length of,
halo 3 mythic disc with all the maps if you didnt download them before.
online co-op with scoring and skulls though we have no idea how far we can get away from each other if there is a limit and how the game will cope or if we can only do the flashback missions in co-op.
firefight which will provide endless hours of fun with your friends defeating wave after wave of random covenent forces with different skulls active at different times.
and halo reach beta invite.

thats alot for just £30 and did i miss anything? its a very good deal, and im probably going to get both MW2 and odst, if not ill just get odst, hteres a 50 day gap between them more than enough time to make enough money

That's probably because it doesn't feel like a full game. I'm not saying I'm not willing to pay for it, and I'm not going to boycott it, but it does feel rather lackluster. I'm sure Half Life 2 sold a lot more than Half Life Episode 1 & 2. I'm still not regretting paying $100 for the special/collector's/whatever edition with the controller.

If people don't get it, oh well, atleast I know there will be more Reconz for me.

Here's the problem: The public is mostly stupid or ignorant people. That poll in the article means nothing. It was a poll to see which game people were more interested in. And the only reason MAG won is because of the fact it has 256 multiplayer. We don't know whether it will be good, whether it will be laggy, there has barely been any gameplay released. And just because they are more interested in MAG, doesn't mean it will sell more. One important fact: The PS3 has not sold 3 times as much as the Xbox. So how could a PS3 exclusive get more votes than a 360 exclusive: Either people are more interested in MAG (because it looks interesting) or those are all PS3 owners. Either way, I don't think MAG will sell 3 times as many copies.

Here's where the stupid people come in. Most of the public are thinking the same two things:
1.WTFF?!? ODST IZ $60$ XPANSHUN? BUNJIS RIPD US OF!!!!!
2.WTFF?!? NO MULTIPLAYREZ? I ALRDY BOUGHT HALO3 MAPS! BUNJIS RIPD US OF!!!!!

Most people don't even know about Firefight, or the length of the campaign. Most people are still running on info back from when it was still Halo 3: Recon.

But the silver lining: Reach beta key. Once the Reach beta becomes available, and when it starts to rock people's socks off, more people will buy ODST. Just look what happened to Crackdown. People will buy ODST in the wake of the Reach beta, and voila...

"Simplify, Simplify."

-Henry David Thoreau

This isn't a big surprise to me at all.

Honestly, I think this game has taken far too long to be released.
Most people have no knowledge of the game, and if they do, generally see uninterested.

I honestly wouldn't even buy it if it didn't have Fire Fight.
The campaign looks meh so far.
