wow microsoft really are stupid to create incompatibilities with ie8 and halo 1.

If anything, you could say that Halo on the PC is one of the most rock solid games ever. Other than the aimbot, it is LITERALLY impossible to cheat, since everything depends on the server.

If you are who I think you are, I'm saddened by your attitude. Plus you are flat out wrong on a few things. I never said Bungie knew about the aimbot BEFORE release. That would be a stupid thing to say and I am not stupid. Been playing as long as you or longer, I remember the bot coming out near the beginning of '06. I think that that is on the record as accurate.

Now, saying there is no cheating other than the aimbot is false. Bluewalling/wireframing is possible and there are NUMEROUS variations of this type of cheat. There is a speed hack that exploits packet loss/terrible M$ netcode. And furthermore, there is a hack that allows the pistol to zoom in as much as the sniper. I have no doubt that there are other cheats as well.

In the past I have commended Gearbox/M$ Studios for patching the game in those first two years or so. In fact one of the very first patches Gearbox released was RCON support with auto-banning. They were actually playing the game and dealing with the same issues we were. Bungie had nothing to do with any of this, nada. They were busy on Halo 2 Xbox, a crappy game to say the least devoid of any difficulty or requiring much skill. For them to come back 6 years later and even touch this game is just insulting. The game is what it is and has been for a long time. Why don't they leave Halo PC alone now and fix the other disaster known as H2v?
If Roger is going to play around with a 6 year old game as a hobby, why not release the source code to the real community, the people that actually play and have developed as best they can workarounds and fixes for Microsoft's mistakes? I will say it again, Bungie should devote their energy to H2v. As someone who got ripped off on that game, I feel sorry for the people still trying to play it. What a disaster. Feel free to continue calling me an idiot, I honestly don't care one bit. The older gamers who remember Oni, and the Myth series should be shouting from the rooftops that what Bungie has become to PC gaming is nothing more than a detriment.
I agree.
not only that, Halo 2 "Vista/Fail" doesn't even have a modding community like Halo 1.

Thank you Vista OS lock, and no vista worthy features.

I would've wanted Online co-op finished for it, I'm amazed that Bungie made ai sync before Halo 3.

No tags means no mods.
No ai mods like Halo 2 xbox. fail.

"map toolkit exclusively for multiplayer" fails.

so if any game's source is being released it should be Halo 2 Vista fail edition.

Halo 1 still has room for more improvement.

Wow, this is why we can't have nice things.

The flamefest and completely random statements that some people have made in this thread with no actual facts backing them up are amazing.

This thread is discussing a slight update to Halo PC and CE addressing a few new security fixes, in addition to the 64-bit and IE update compatibility. It's fine to ask politely for the source code (lol, right) or other additions to this patch, but it's also irrelevant. I'm sure Sawnose is aware of the community's concerns and requests, but he's ONE man, and to my knowledge he's not a god of men so he's only capable of so much...

This version will network with 1.08 in the same game, it doesn't break compat.

I haven't observed anybody connect from the WAN yet while running the HPC 1.09 dedi sever.
I have no problem connecting to my 1.09 dedi on my LAN with either version of the HPC client,
but I can't confirm whether I can connect to WAN dedi servers not knowing which, if any, are 1.09 beta dedicated servers.

Can we build a list of HPC and HCE 1.09 servers for testing?
My dedi server name (HPC and HCE): Smorgasbord

Found another HPC dedi: Halo 1.09 Beta TX *1.08 Compliant* using Xfire's server version filter.

I connected to the above HPC beta server with both versions of HPC client w/o problems.

Kind of lame that we (we being 64 bit 1.09 Custom Edition players) can't play with 1.08 people while 1.09 PC players can play with 1.08 people.

I am the owner of the two Halo 1.09 Beta servers, one in TX and the other in GA. So far they have not cause any problems as of yet for being up at least a month and a half and neither has the 1.09 PC Client yet.

I don't think Halo 1 has any potential anymore.
why don't you all stop, its getting old.
release the source, it'll make possibilities endless.
Microsoft should let the source code out, so someone can create other game mods for this game,
like Online co-op, make ai, scripts ,Cutscenes, BSP switching sync,
better netcoding for Multiplayer etc.

this game is already at $5, why is the source code/SDK still in Microsoft's hands?

This is the average H2 Fanboy.
Xfire: JacobGRocks.
50 in H2/H3? Great, but you still fail at this.

Same reason that the source for windows 95 and dos is in their hands, they copyrighted it and they are not open sourcing it. Also ask Apple to open source OS 9 and release it free. And lastly, also ask Valve to open source goldsrc, as games with THAT are cheap as well.

don't be sarcastic dumbass, I posted valid reasons for "why they should".
I don't care if they can't.
at least Valve is kind enough to open source their new games, like Half-Life, and with that we got mods, like
Garry's Mod, Ultimate Forging lol
custom campaigns
Synergy (12 player Co-op), surprisingly they have very good netcoding for co-op. I always get under 10ms from them lol.
Zombies game,
custom campaign content for Left4Dead.

if they want more money, they should make the game worth it,
this would mainly come from SDK or source code.

its funny they'd want to keep Halo 2 Vista's Source too.
what a fail of a game. heres hoping Windows 7 will become the Halo 2 sales booster.

@sawnose
since Microsoft is dropping support for Windows XP,
can we expect some upgrades to Halo 1 to specifically match everything Vista and Windows 7?

Valve didnt open source it, they just released a SDK, same with Unreal engine and other engines, they come with SDKs, but not source code (you must liscense it, they want money for their engine use, same with havok and miles sound system and that stuff)

Daodan Latency at 65%

For the last time: He cannot release the source because he is not allowed to. Please, if anyone asks this question again just quote this post because I am getting a bit tired of saying it.

ah - one of yesterday's msupdates patches brung this dreaded error on my main PC - can't play halo CE any more except on 1.09 servers (1 as of today).

it would be really, really cool to make it 1.08 compatible, sawnose.

Why does Dev mode not work on 1.09?

  • 10.17.2009 7:41 PM PDT

Sup, I'm (ES)Kenshin, the leader of the (ES)Clan and an admin on the (ES)Clan dedicated server on H2V.
Halo Custom Edition - 1,419 Hours.
Halo 2 Vista - 257 Hours and counting.
Xfire - cmkenshin

yeah, both Dev Mode and custom Open Sauce d3d9.dll's don't work. But, my strings.dll version changer does! So, atleast i can still play with 1.08 people on 1.09.

Halo 1 PC and CE receiving support = absolute fail and a waste, of one person's time.
shouldn't Microsoft hire a team of 6 people for this?

The bungie.net community is the halo PC community that is renowned for being unbelieveably sucky.

LOL here we go...

Yes let's waste time updating Halo PC, but let's never talk about Halo 2 Vista and how much of a disaster that is. Maybe Roger can fix that game in 2013 or something.

Stupid parents let their stupid children play games that are rated M when they should be playing Big Birds Spelling Adventures

Also the AR is actually good in CQB now and no longer a glorified baseball bat.

Reinstalled Halo PC on Win7 64-bit w/8GB of RAM. Will let you know the results.

Thanks for continuing to help us sawnose!

Ok. I installed it and patched up to 1.08 and then copied the test files into my Halo directory. No problems here on Win7 64-bit w/8GB of RAM.

I played two games for about 30 minutes and had no issues.

May as well ignore h2v and support a good game that got the Halo Universe started in the first place.

How long can Halo 1 PC receive support until it's boring, and has no more potential?

because M$ sure as hell don't release any source code, and they sure as hell aren't
"modding community-friendly".

Halo 2 Vista, has shown how selfish Micro$oft can be, as to go so far to code in restrictions,
50 or so Custom map limit.
75% stock tags, gone.
H2EK's refusal to compile custom tags.

Halo 1 got lucky, Halo 3 PC, if ever released, may not be so lucky.

I appreciate how work "some" work is being done to improve the game, but am really disappointed as to how bungie has simply left the PC lovers in the dark and not done enough to further enhance the PC experience.

Suggestions to improve this game (which might never happen):
-improve netcode *BIG ONE* (so people no longer need to aim 3 feet next to the person for their shots to register, seeing that the 500-1000 people who play this game competitively greatly dislike this "feature")
-More maps? (I think after six years of the same old BloodGulch CTF, people deserve a bit more and shouldn't really have to install CE to get it. Some official map packs would help also)
-That's all I can think of at the moment x__x WILL COME UP WITH MORE THINGS TO WHINE ABOUT! :)
better late than never. Hopefully bungie can learn a bit from their experience with halo2pc/halopc(badnetcode) but still props for coming up with a game which has lasted for so long.

I guess Bungie/Microsoft are just looking where the money is. The Halo PC community is pretty tiny compared to Xbox Live...
If a smaller developer approached Microsoft with the aim of taking over developing content for Halo and Halo 2 for PC then they might see some new life, but I doubt that would ever happen.
