Connecting to a dedicated server that's on the same computer you're playing on defeats the purpose of having a dedicated server. (Various forum members have asked me to be polite and informative, so bear with me on this lesson...)
The purpose of a dedicated server is to minimize the strain placed on your CPU so that the game being served runs with as little server-side lag as possible (because lag=bad news). Now, when you play halo, you use many system resources that defeat the intent of the Dedicated Server.
I would even go so far as to say that since Halo and Halo DS would be running in separate shells that doing this would make the game run slower than if you simply hosted a non-dedicated server. The only thing you gain by doing this is more players - since few people like to play on a non-dedicated server, but this is lying to them - you're advertising a fast, dedicated server, but, in reality it's slower than a non-dedicated server.
It only serves to further weaken the integrity of the game. I've tried to do this before, and I had the same problem. Then I realized that it was rather pointless. I've never heard of anyone doing it... but there may be a way to do it.
Bad idea, in my honest opinion.
