360 titles are developed on hard drives, and that file structure is later run from disk. Effectively speaking, the same amount of work is being done from either media. The CPU has no extra work here at all, as running a game title from hard drive is the same as an arcade game, just with different designation. All the dvd drive does is read the data into MEMORY, which by any means increases work on the CPU as it has to make requests for particular files whenever it wants them, and has to wait on them. Infact, the Xbox 360 Software development process actually includes a section on emulating a DVD drive, which is used because game developers may get used to an 'increased' speed from the hard drive, and have to get the actual DVD speed for optimizations. The game running from a hard drive does nothing but create more read/write cycles and disable a dvd drive, effectively extending the core hardware's lifespan and decreasing the lifespan of the hard drive at a higher rate.
