Subject: Installing it to HDD

The jerk store called; their all outa you

What will installing ODST to your hard drive actually do?? how will it make a difference/affect gameplay?

  • 08.19.2009 8:25 PM PDT

it will put ODST on the HDD,silly.

  • 08.19.2009 8:26 PM PDT

HACK THE PLANET!

It will probably increase load times...

The DVD Drive in the 360 spins probably around 4000 rpm

Where a hard drive either spins 5200 rpm or 7200rpm.

  • 08.19.2009 8:27 PM PDT

it will make the game have lower loading times, reduced lag possibly, things like that

whats HDD?

HDD means hard drive, its printed on the top/side of your hard drive

  • 08.19.2009 8:31 PM PDT

im pretty shure it decreases loading times

yeah, i kinda knew that, i was just wondering if there were any drawbacks to it, and if its really worth it...

Decrease loading time for campaign, but increase loading time for the the Multiplayer only disc (Halo 3: Mythic).

Halo: CE Anniversary Achievement Idea
C-C-C-CANNON BREAKER!
Let Sgt. Johnson die on Halo.

Here's the short version.

Campaign/ Firefight Disc:
Install to HDD

Halo 3 Mythic (Multiplayer) Disc:
DON'T Install to HDD

It will make the Campaign disc run smoother and faster, but it ironically makes loading times for the Multiplayer disc longer.

Spiderstosh, Spiderstosh...does whatever a Spiderstosh does. Breaks the interwebs in his prime...guess who is....to blame this time? Spiderstosh...it is the Spiderstoooosh. -SonicJohn

putting ODST on your hard drive will DECREASE load times. putting the halo 3 multiplayer disc on your hard drive will NOT decrease load times.

Installing it will also quiet your 360, as well.

To check out my other screenshot works, join SAS Halo3 to find my other works. Also hit up my homepage to get the latest info on screenshots and more. To request work be done on your shots, just send me a PM and I'll get to you ASAP. But it'll be faster to join SAS ; )

Increases loading times and loads the game environment faster. Plus it will stop load stopping.

I don't think it will affect your Game play in any way. All it'll do is make your 360 do less work decreasing the chance of RROD.

Bahaha! you need to do your research kid. Actually, if anything it will increase your chance, RRoD isnt because of your Disc Drive its because of 90nm tri-core chipset that literally flexes the motherboard until the CPU Dye cracks thus bring you RRoD. Personally, I have mine modded out with watercooling so I can install but for the rest of you...you might want to stick with the disk drive and not installing.

Do YOUR research, when playing a game off the harddrive your 360 is doing less work and less power is flowing and thus runs cooler, so you aren't getting that heat that warps the motherboard, and it has nothing to do with the CPU cracking, its the console over heating, warping the motherboard, and reflowing the thermal paste.

Oh, so the hard drive does everything including computing multiple threads of information and transforming them into visual pictures and video? Because thats what you just said. Oh, and how many Xbox's have you had? Or taken apart and fixed? How much college education do you have in the I.T. field Bill Jr.?

These kids I swear...

No you nimrod, but running it off of the harddrive means the disk drive isn't running and thus there is less power flowing through the system, which means less heat.

Um, Gump, you are joking, right? You certainly have it wrong, but more to the point, anyone's best bet is to certainly install it. Talking like you know something, and actually knowing it, those are two different things.

Gump, you don't know what you are talking about, at all.

360 titles are developed on hard drives, and that file structure is later run from disk. Effectively speaking, the same amount of work is being done from either media. The CPU has no extra work here at all, as running a game title from hard drive is the same as an arcade game, just with different designation. All the dvd drive does is read the data into MEMORY, which by any means increases work on the CPU as it has to make requests for particular files whenever it wants them, and has to wait on them. Infact, the Xbox 360 Software development process actually includes a section on emulating a DVD drive, which is used because game developers may get used to an 'increased' speed from the hard drive, and have to get the actual DVD speed for optimizations. The game running from a hard drive does nothing but create more read/write cycles and disable a dvd drive, effectively extending the core hardware's lifespan and decreasing the lifespan of the hard drive at a higher rate.

Its still going to have to compute twice as much information making the CPU much hotter than it would on the Disc drive.

Anyways, I'm not going to debate this, its been debated everywhere and its old. Good luck with your system.

Wow, where are you getting your information? because its completely wrong, it doesn't "compute" twice as much, it actually does less because it does't have to read it off the disk.
