Subject: Story Question!

Okay, I just finished reading Halo: The Fall of Reach. So it ends MC and Keyes and the whole Pillar of Autumn going into slipspace, and Cortana following an odd starmap, so they end up near Halo. And also, when they entered slipspace, the Covenant were trying to follow them through slipspace, but in the end of the book it doesn't mention the Covenant actually catching up to them. So then in the start of Halo: CE, You're just waking up out of the cryo tube, like everyone else, and then the ship gets attacked? Was the attack by the Covenant that were trying to follow them, or a completely different set of Covenant ships? I could probably find out by buying Halo: The Flood, but I don't feel like going out and buying another book just to find out one small thing. If you know, please answer!

The Pillar of Autumn fled REACH when it was clear all was lost.

Cortana picked a set of coordinates the Covenant were interested in from Cote D'Azure on another planet. Said coordinates were the system with Installation 04.

I agree, this part is confusing. In Halo: CE, the reasoning is that the Covenant that followed them got past them and waited at the coordinates. Because they knew that's where they would stop, nobody knows.

In Halo 2, it is stated that the Arbiter took his ships and followed.

Personally, I'm under the impression that several ships were already there, and as the Arbiter neared them, they communicated, and the first Halo ring was deemed too valuable to jeopardize, so they waited in ambush just in case. I don't think the novel Halo: The Flood answered any of the questions you asked.
