Resistance Is Futile...

This is what wiki says about Halo: REACH...

The game will be the last in the Halo franchise to be developed by Bungie before they begin work on new intellectual property. The development of future Halo games will be overseen by Microsoft subsidiary 343 Industries

Did you catch that last sentence???
Who the hell is 343 industries? Is Bungie abandoning halo r being raped of it?
Im so sad.. I dont like change when it comes to love of a game... Every time I have seen a classic redone by a different developer I see epic fails... I will always remember you Halo Combat Evolved... You were the original... we will miss you...

Not really in the know, are we? 343 Industries is headed by former Bungie community Manager, and writer, Frankie O'Connor, a brilliant and awesome guy. He's seriously connected to the Halo material and, beside Jason Jones and Joseph, I really don't believe the Halo property could be in better hands.

He and this company will oversee ALL Halo related material from books to games, right down to every ounce of continuity. Makes the name fitting, does it not? 343 Guilty Spark was a monitor who oversaw a Halo Installation, and now his namesake lives on to oversee the entire Halo Universe.

Yeah, I noticed the 343 in the title but wasn't sure if it was on purpose..

But after hearing what you just said I feel a hellz of a lot better about it all.. I still wish we could keep all the original team members from CE but I guess TIME happens....

Halo is turning into a huge franchise... Its nearly a household word just like star wars or star trek...

Master Cheif is close to being as common words as Darth Vader and Captain Kirk.
Couldn't be happier.. Especially knowing I watched it grow into what it is...

That's one of the biggest, grim reminders of this industry; time. Bungie is a forward thinking developer, and it's really awesome of them to have done even these extra games for the fans, but I honestly believe Halo will remain in proud hands. Hell, Microsoft clearly realizes the amount of money and fame riding on this one, single property. It's because of Halo that, IMO, the Xbox has amassed such a large player base. You come for Halo, stay for the cookies, as it were.

But Bungie wants to make other games, and I'm, as always, really excited to see what they do. Unfortunately I'm still waiting for Marathon 4, alas, Halo has distratced me from my goals of forcing Bungie to return to the Marathon universe.

For now....

343 Is the industries in microsoft that actually owns halo. Bungie never actually owned Halo. They did when they were first making it, but Microsoft bought em' out. A while ago. So bungie isn't technically being raped of it. Bungie quit Microsoft and developed there own company like a week before Halo 3's release...But since they still have a contract, anything that they make that's halo related belongs to microsoft. That's why since there an independent company now There making a new IP.

I will say I am excited to see what new game they cook up. I just hope its not like an anime mech game or something lame like that.. I hope they stay true to American Badass explosions and gunfire... I dont mind some RPG's... Im sure Bungie could make a really good one... But I say stick with what your good at.. ya know?

But whatever the next IP is I will atleast give it a benifit of a doubt. I have followed bungie too long to turn my back now..

Idk why but I wanna hope theres a slight chance that it's an RTS...Idk maybe because halo was orignally supposed to be an RTS? Then again Bungie did show the evolution of FPS on console based games...

I would really like to see something that remained fast paced. But a third person prespective, they did it with Oni, but I seriously believe they could blow us out of the water if they take that same drive and wandering they discovered with Halo, and bring it to a new IP.

Of course, I'd like to see a take on a more fantasy element. Just cause of Myth.

  • 08.20.2009 11:48 PM PDT

Well, if it's anything I hope it's humans dealing with an alien war. Bungie has crafted there best games around that.

  • 08.20.2009 11:51 PM PDT

That wouldn't really be breaking new ground in the IP department, which is what Bungie seems to continously imply with this new property. And that's why I say fantasy, it's just somehing they haven't done in a while.

Oh yeah, true...

Does it matter? Fans get pissed off as it is. Halo 2 isn't Halo 1. Bungie must dies says the Halo 1 fans. Halo 3 isn't Halo 2. Bungie must dies says the Halo 2 fans wanting button glitches back. Either way they'll just someone off. Changing it more could piss everyone off, but abandoning it and doing something with different design ethics from the start will equal success. Unless it's an FPS. Then people will compare it with Halo, or Marathon in the case of left over fans from the 90's.

I'm happy he is gone. He was a horrible writer.
