Has anyone ever thought that perhaps Halo: Reach's conclusion is the invasion, but the majority of the story could take place during the past 27 years of war with the Covenant? After all, the caption in the trailer does say: "From the beginning..." Maybe it will be like this? http://www.gametrailers.com/user-movie/halo-reach/327933

Sorry, I have to say no. The tagline refers to, depending on who you ask, the beginning of Halo CE, where you see the end of Reach, or where everything started on Reach and ended in Halo 3. Like a domino effect.

I believe the game is clearly, solely based on Reach through clues and intel gathered from the single announcement trailer, and the title of the game itself.

The tagline is rather multi-layered, simple as it is. It can be construed to refer to a couple things.
- That we have played Halo: Combat Evolved, which starts by explaining Reach's grim fate. We know that it falls, so we know the end of the game
- When the Covenant decide to glass a planet, they never fail. As soon as they enter the system, it's clear to all the soldiers of the UNSC on that planet that their planet is doomed

And yes, theories abound about Halo: Reach. Someone has undoubtedly thought about whatever theories you or I could craft. There are enough fans with enough curiosity and brainpower that at least one fan will make a guess that is 100% accurate, and not know it until they play. It's just the odds.

Well, I guess my main contention is that Bungie's ad campaigns have been misleading in the past, such as Halo 2's announcement trailer where it depicted Earth under a massive assault, being glassed, and essentially humanity's last stand, whereas in the final game, earth is only a minor part of the storyline, being attacked by an expeditionary force, aka, not what the first trailer portrayed. So, perhaps Halo: Reach could not necessarily take place during the actual battle for some, or perhaps even most of the game, all of which depends on how long the campaign will be...

I'm going to say that it will possibly be colonization, first contact/war, then the glassing
