Subject: Brute physical combat is still lacking.

I was looking at the IGN videos, and the Brutes get stunned and slowly attack the player with their hands like in Halo 3. I know they aren't going to change much, but it would be nice if it was a little harder since we are ODSTs.

I concur

...Does anyone really read these?

They seem alot more like Elites. They now dont travel in packs and they are more "Evasive" They now also have sheilds. I got this stuff form watching e3 videos.

Indeed. They do seem to move and dodge a lot more.

Spartans never die.

I dont think a ODST punch should really damage a brute at all

I agree. In Halo 2, I admit, I was slightly chilled by the Brutes ferocity. They were hunched over, butt-naked, and advanced towards you even before they berserked. With the Elites gone, I thought they would be hard. But I find them easier to kill than Elites! They stand straighter, lacking brutishness, and just take the hits until their power armor is off. When they decide to berserk one shot from almost anything or a punch will kill them. Even the Chieftains aren't much more challenging. I just sidestep their attacks and assassinate them or strafe using hit-and-run tactics. Most of the time I actually ignore other Brutes as I dispatch the Chieftain. I wish all Brutes were like Halo 2 Brutes; terrifylingly insane and... brutish!

The Brutes in Halo 2 on normal were more challenging that the Halo 3 brutes on legendary.

I think their only armor difference is that they flicker.

Brutes have shields in Halo 3 but they lack the shield flare effect. Look at the lights in their armor... and look at the lights in Spartan and Elite armors. You'll understand the shield then...

Hay heres a thought..NoRMAL it all depends on your difficulty they played it on normal(or easy).they wouldnt risk putting it on heroic or legendary unless they are absolutely certain they wont die

I'd love to be a 10 year old and tell my mom I'm going on an adventure out into the world catching Pokemon, with her full support. Never mind the fact that there are rapists, criminals, and murders out there, or the fact that I may get killed by a Pokemon.

Luckily I have Pikachu.

That is very, very true.

yea they do, but bungie said (i forget where) that regardless of what difficulty you play on the tough luck skull will activate from the begining in firefight

I remember playing through Halo 2 legendary by myself...
Ahh... that was a good month.

  • 08.21.2009 2:40 PM PDT

I went back and played halo 2 last week, what i noticed was that Elites were -blam!- hard!!!

Ya but like whoever said it, Brutes just stand and take the bullets until their armor falls off and then they charge you.

I think the only time that i was intimidated by Brutes in H3 was on Crow's Nest and that was only due to the fact that there were like freakin 50 billion of them (jk more like 100).

I disagree. Although they were more aggressive, all you had to do was shoot their helmet off and pop them in the head.

Two shots from the M6C Magnum accomplished that quite nicely. :)

And you can't kill the Brutes in Halo 3 the same way?

In one of the updates (I think) they said that the brutes are more concerned about self preservation.

The brutes in Halo 2 weren't agile but very tough. When Halo 3 was coming out I thought they would be even tougher to kill with all their armour and all. In a surprising (and dissapointing) twist they were weaker.

As someone pointed out above the brutes are easier to fight in Halo 3 legendary mode than on normal mode in Halo 2. No offense to Bungie but they really screwed up on them in Halo 3. I'm not sure what to expect from Halo 3 ODST though I do know they strafe more like the elites.

While the brutes aren't suppose to be as smart or fast as elites they are suppose to be tough. I hardly ever got a feeling of their physical prowess in Halo 3.

Edit: Also in Halo 3, there was no story involving them other than in Battle. Another huge let down.

ok, so brutes change there combat because they changed from fighting spartans to ODST's?

Thats pretty stupid, you realise that it will be harder BECAUSE we will be ODST's yes?

  • 08.21.2009 3:14 PM PDT

Golf Wang. Brony.

With the armor on, the Brutes should be as cunning and intelligent as the Elites are, perhaps even recharging the energy shield if everything is intact.

When it goes off, they should just completely lose their -blam!- and go back to Halo 2 mode. Perhaps use the AI from a Brute Chieftain w/ Gravity Hammer?

In my opinion the H3 feels dumbed down because AI tends to stand around more until you reach a certain point in the map to set them off. Combine this with ranged weapons and we have a problem.

Maybe I should have written something better than flicker.

But there's no sense crying over every mistake.
You just keep on trying till you run out of cake.
And the Science gets done.
And you make a neat gun.
For the people who are still alive.

They're basically apes. Elites are much smarter. Apes vs Dinosaurs = Dinosaurs win! lol.
