I wish I was still legendary.

I love Elites, first and foremost. My favorites are the Halo 2 and Halo Wars Sangheili, and these are my reasons.
Halo 2
-Elites stood tall and proud, and when I saw one come around the corner with a Sword on Legendary, from Zealots to Heretics to Spec Ops, a tiny thought erupted from the bowels of my brain. "Oh -blam!-."
-Sangheili were more true to their nature, even if the Worts were few and the Blarghs were scarce.
-Basically, these Elites were pretty cool guys. Eh killed all the Flood, Humans, Heretics, Brutes, and doesn't afraid of anything.
-While slim, they were not just agile weaklings, but viscious, honorable warriors.
-Their formfitting armor didn't look bad like a certain trilogy's final game made it. (Wow, did I butcher English or what?)
Halo Wars
-Tall, musclebound, alien bada**es. These guys truely gave off a warrior's aura.
-While slightly (and I use that term loosely) incorrect proportionally, they still seemed more like Halo CE and 2's Sangheili than Halo 3's/
-Face it. Their armor was beautiful. Don't get mad at me, I know we saw them (best) in cutscenes, nonetheless.
In Reach, I'm hoping for Elites to look like a mix between the above two game's Sangheili soldiers. Call me biased, but I'm choosing not to review and discuss the other races to a large extent.
@OP: Good, though some parts I wasn't a fan of. Brutes past the events of Halo 2 or so SHOULD have Power Armor. I will always miss their cool lil flags, however. While the Jackals are space pirates and mercenaries, I don't see why they should be changed. Not all mercenaries have to be scary, creepy lil wierdos. Jackals are fine how they are, their Bungie's, and if Bungie made them like this, then that's that. Grunts? Meh. Won't say much about them, though I would like more viscious tendencies. The Prophets aren't supposed to look too threatening. They were done great. No complaints. Hunters? I would like an occasional Hunter with damaged armor, a missing shoulderpiece, some lost backspikes, even a crumpled shield. Then again, I'd like effects like these on -all- armor, for -all- races. Good post, OP. Your thread is saved, and I hope it becomes a hot topic. It certainly deserves, for touching on the issues it did.
With love and worts bountiful,
Zero.
I would agree with you more on the cross between Halo 2 and Wars Elites. Wars looked too scary/real for Halo, but did have beautiful, regal armour. If the Reach armour took aspects from that and gave it to H2 era elites (i.e. tall and brave), then had some different AI behaviours that made them seem more important, I'd be more than happy.
Just as a note: Reach fell before Halo 1. If this game is entirely a prequel and doesn't span for more than a month, they shouldn't have power armour (brutes).
The reason prophets are on there is because although they looked fine in Halo 2, something changed with Halo 3. I'm not sure what, but Truth just looked and sounded like a deranged old man.
Jackals I kinda agree don't need much changed. Read the OP again, it states that all they really need is some of their own culture's weapons and armour that distinguishes them from the other covenant. They, unlike the Brutes and Elites, are hardly religious zealots.
Thanks for agreeing on the Hunters though. I REALLY think the Hunter race could be expanded beyond blue and gold walking tanks and scarabs. They are probably one of the least fleshed out races in the Covenant, and have the potential to be so much more than just a walking tank. I read somewhere they they don't give a crap about other COvenant, I think it was Fall of Reach - if they acted like this in the game, simple stepping on anybody between them and you, it would be great. It would be even better if when their bond brother was killed they actually went crazy - for example, they might roar and charge forwards, battering anything between them and you out of the way, including enemies like Jackals.
