Were it so easy.

I have some ideas for how they can still have Elites and maybe brutes too, in multiplayer and still make them look cool.

Have a straight standing Elites thats looks all cool and stuff, but scale it down a bit, just a little, then scale the Spartans up a little bit. They should be able to make it work if they just scale things like that.

These are all great ideas, I think that, like in Halo CE, the covenant shouldn't speak English except for maybe the Grunts for humor, but it humanizes the Elites and Brutes too much when they speak like people.

YES.

The great bit about this is that it works canonically too, because we didn't have translation software at this point and some grunts learned english to eavesdrop on radio transmissions, or something along those lines.

Betatesters are disposable.

I totally agree to the OP - with the exception that brutes know honor like described in First Contact

I pretty sure in the books (like fall of reach) there weren't any brutes fighting in that book. ( look if i get it wrong i haven't read the books in a while)

The game isn't about the book. I would never like brutes as a main enemy though. shock troopers being fought at human strongholds like castle base would be where I'd expect them.

I have no idea if this has been posted in this thread, but I discovered some cool Elite Concept Art for Halo Wars that i'd like to see in Halo Reach. You can check it out here.

Of Course I will help you beta test your sweet software :3.
<3 Bungie.

This is very true. In Halo 2, and Halo Wars the Elites looked like they should, Brutal, and ready to bite.. However this look disappeared in HALO 3... They elites were more 'smooth' and they didn't look vicious at all :/

... A good example of this is one of the Elite armor perms which as blades on the side. These 'blades' look like plastic attachments. They aren't sharp and they are thick like a loaf of bread...

I have never seen those before. They're great though, - not what you'd expect in the game, but they fit the HW cinematic style perfectly. If there was a balance between the coolness of those and consistency with what we've seen elsewhere in the series (mayit would be awesome.

i honestly think that the elites look fine as it is ..... it would look pretty stupid if they were hunched in most of the games then all of a sudden they stand straight. brutes look fine as it is it would look really dumb if they looked like a primitive species for one they come from an alliance of races and they were supplied with technology from the prophets and elites. they wouldn't have leather straps then the game would feel like fighting super mutants off fallout 3. the prophets are supposed to look old and wise.....(really they must be dumb)they do not need to look more sinister then it would have more a fantasy feel to it. for example does master chief need to look more buff, does cortana need to have like a thousand more numbers going across her?? no most of what you said would take much longer than a year anyways so it will most likely not be put in anyways. bring something like this to bethesda for one of their games bungie has done a great job on their game and their creatures they have made a great sci-fi genre (note the SCIENCE not the leather straps)i get absorbed into every one of the games and i feel as if i am there. and also there elites standing up more straight .... would it be an alien races fault if they cant stand up straight... seriously

I'm gonna clear a few things up with you:

Elites have only hunched since they were made into playable characters, and it's gotten worse over time to the point where 8-foot tall warriors are 7-foot tall smily lizards. How they were in Halo one and Halo Wars is how they're meant to be.

Brutes ARE primitive. We're talking about space apes that worked their way up to space travel, got into a civil war that pulled them back down to being hunter-gatherers, dragged themselves back up to spacefaring and learned NOTHING from the experience.

Go look at the Brutes in halo 2. Their armour is period accurate for Halo one, since they have the same commander - and the have leather straps holding bits together (shoulderpads and ammo belts). If they had different ranks like in halo 3 it would work. By leather straps I mean as in strips of leather used to hold their armour on. You can disagree if you want to, but think about it - it they're wearing partial armour rather than a full battlesuit, what else would be holding it onto the Brute?

Prophets are evil. To make them look more sinister all that's needed is better lighting, like Truth in the H3ODST legendary ending. They wouldn't give off a fantasy vibe - I don't know WHAT you're smoking to think that making a character more sinister and evil-looking gives off a fantasy vibe. giving them steampunk chairs and plasma wands would be a fantasy vibe.

Chief doesn't need to be more buff, but has gotten more powerful as the games went on. Cortana doesn't need more numbers going across her (well technically, she does if she's thinking), but she gains more in each game anyway because the artistic style evolves. That's what this is about, suggesting ways to evolve the artistic style into something grittier, something that didn't look like fighting a bunch of TOYS.

Oh, and it takes much, MUCH less than a year to create and rig character models for a game. I've built character models before and rigged them, and it takes me about a week to build them.

BYAHH

I think you pretty much hit the nail on the head. The only thing I would change is keep grunts funny. To be honest I think they are great comic relief and the comedy helps to make me feel that they are truly pathetic.

My favorite idea of yours is the engineers doing things other than just floating. Them looking at machinery and fiddling with it and changing plasma batteries would definitely be awesome.

Dude I don't care and my grammer is perfect.I used "Big", as you recall it to mak is specific."to not do...",is incorrect beause "do" is present tense/perfect(or future) when it was a past tense.

Amongst each other, the covenant should talk their gibberish. However, when they are taunting you, it should be in broken english.

The less than a second latency of online play is a better system to play off of than more health.

You realize this system is just as host based, right? because if you're fighting host, or someone with a better connection to host, and you each start firing at the same time, his BULLETS will register first, giving him slightly more health if the melees happen at the same time.

So would you rather have the BS of both, or just one?

Totally agree with you OP, especially on the elite/ brute aspects.
Luckily, given the timing of halo reach, any brutes featured will be more like their barbaric halo 2 selves (hopefully a bit more well defined) and only elites will wear colorful full suits of armor. Though I am still concerned about having the halo2/ halo3 style elites we have had to deal with as replacements for the halo 1 elites. I miss the days of elites standing tall/ moving around like crazy, the ones that made you feel small even as the Master Chief.
I am almost thankful we didn't get to fight elites in halo 3 as we were spared the agony of seeing once proud foes contorted into multiplayer only body shapes.

...And when i am standing there, watching as the slingshot is cranked back into the shadows, a smile will bestow upon my face as I softly whisper one word..."blam...."

Check out my Youtube Channel!

no brutes please.

everything else i agree.

elites need to say WORT WORT WORT!

and story needs to be darker and more depressing and the charterers should reflect that.

Reach MMO. Here's to hoping.

And the people that believe "the hardcore playlists would be more popular if the rules were strictly MLG" can come off it, now. If you're not willing to support something close to your own setup, there's no reason for us to believe that cloning our own lists and stripping the variety down will attract more people. -- Shishka, Bungie.net

I think the majority of people feel the same way. I like the sleekness and even the bright colors of the elite ships, but I would love to have an actual fear of the aliens.

Elites shouldn't be hunchback, they weren't so in the first Halo. They were quite awesome, but I think they did it to cope with multiplayer models. This time they should have a campaign model (taller, less hunch), and a multiplayer model (like Halo 3).

  • 10.09.2009 10:49 AM PDT

This would be sooo cool if Bungie listens to you! I hope they do cause it will make the campaign much more fun!
