and also you must not have gotten the point of the year thing... i guess it might be confusing...

they would have to make the game first then all the stuff in it with all the little details and what you are suggesting is the start from almost scratch and go and do it differently in under a year.....

i think the game looks fine as it is.... i am a die hard halo fan i read every book i know almost everything there is to know about halo. To me the game has no flaws it is the essence of perfection i go back often and play campaign and go back often to firefight and play campaign on odst and i buy almost anything that has master chief on it....(i bought a master chief statue from gamestop and ironically its price tag after tax and shipping and handling cost was $117.00 lol) you can say i have no life and if i did it was completely dedicated to halo..... and you'd b right in truth i have a lot to thank halo for.

if it weren't for halo i wouldn't have started reading and i wouldn't have had a way to vent my anger (i had serious anger issues then) and now i am a straight "a" student and if you told any of my current friends that i was a violent person years back they would have no chance of believing you.... they still dont even believe me yet....

all I'm trying to say is halo is awesome i don't want them to go around and change it i just want them to make their last great game of the halo genre and do it the classic halo way and have the new storyline

i just want halo to be itself. (i know you're probably gonna say itself was Un-hunched elites or something like that... but i think you know what i mean)

Cool ideas but the same needs to be done with the marines, give them things to do like complaining about there weapons being clogged or to marines playing punch for punch you know Human stuff.

Not only that, but the AI system should help the beaviours of each.

I never really gave a damn about any of the other enemies, I just was pissed off at the effort put into Halo 3's elites.

Elites should stand tall and look commanding and intelligent, instead of retarded, igor-class dinosaurs.

That would be cool, but there are people out there much smarter than me working on marine AI. There's not actually too much to improve of flesh out on the human side.

in combat id really like the jackals to do that phalanx formation you see in the halo 2 E3 demo. it's where a group of jackals gets in a v formation they all put their shields up and they slowly advance while firing in concert. it was so awesome, i was disappointed when they never did that in the finished game.

i would love to see that in Reach

I think that this is actully is a really good idea because the covanent just look boring when you just sit there and watch them through your sniper scope ready to blow one of there heads off

I hope Bungie does not listen to this guy! I see everything how it is. Why would brutes using plasma weapons be using leather straps to hold their armor together? Also, If the brutes actually looked pimitive I don't think it would very fun to be fighting a caveman gorilla.

Those are some great ideas there OP. It seems that you want it more of a darker, serious type of game. ODST was in the right direction with more cutscenes with story and action(i.e. Buck killing the Brute Chieftain with his knife). Also, hopefully Bungie makes the humans look more realistic instead of blocky faces(All Halo games).

You're right, the Hunters really don't really care about the other species, except for Elites. They actually respect and admire the Elites.

Totaly agree, the only thing keeping me playing the single player now is the fun, if it wasnt fun id think the silly designs of the enemys where due to some sort of severe bordom.

Well brutes ARE part of a alien cast system thats has pretty good technology so they cand be that primitive i doubt the make the armore they where. and bungie isn't a serious company they joke around ALOT and have a bunch of things in game they wern't serious about. why make serious looking apponents?

  • 10.12.2009 2:16 PM PDT

Id love to see some foreshadowing of revolution as well. For example, you see an elite walk into a camp, and a group of brutes start of look at him and mutter. Than one steps out and the rest of the brutes make a circle (like the end of The Ark) around the brute and elite. The elite looks up and slowly draws his sword, and burns a line between him and the brute. A random brute tosses a grav hammer (slightly more feral than h3s one) into the centre. Fight happens, and ends with one brute speared to a tree with a sword. The brutes dissuade themselves, but mutter stuff like"our time will come"

Or

A prophet is talking with an elite commander after a failed battle against some spartans. The argument ends with the prophet saying "perhaps your race is exhausting its usefulness, commander, the brutes succeeded in their attack. I will deliberate"

If you made it through this substantial wall of text, good job!

I completely agree with you. I have always thought that Halo should be a darker and almost scarier game. Halo CE I thought did a great job with the ambience and aesthetics. I actually felt like I was the last of the humans on a massive bomb with nothin but my boots and my ammo. My teammates were dieing in droves and I HAD to get to that ship before my luck ran out. Halo should have darker enviroments, not like ODST dark, which was just the outlay of the city, but forget stuff like Buck and Dare ending up together. I want to be dropped in an enviroment of total war with scary inteligent enemies and my only way out is to team up with my boys and gun down everyone in my path.

I'm bout to walk over to yo house and help myself to yo fruity pebbles.

Love the ideas but I always remembered Covenant levels for their rounded out edges and corners and how elegant they looked but I always found it odd that their armor didn't quite relate. So here are my suggestions:

1: Grunts should have a more rounded backpack (similar like in Halo 1)

2: Elites should show very little skin and less pointy shoulders and helms.

3: Brutes torn leather armor and scatter pointed parts of armor with maybe a hunk of metal on their chest for shields

I think that faces have been terrible given that all the engines so far sucked with them. More realistic humans would be fun, but that's for another post. All that needs to change for them is better faces and jumping animations, like when hit by a grenade - honestly, who stands STILL as they fly through the air and always lands upright? If they turned into ragdolls until they hit the ground, then pushed themselves back up/sometimes fought from the ground if badly injured it would look much better.

There's an idea - better grenade reaction physics. If someone's standing next to a grenade when it goes off - brute, elite or human - they're not going to float up in the air and land on their feet. Making them into a ragdoll as they flew followed by getting back up off the ground would be more realistic, especially if they acted differently after.

I guess I also have to say that although these may not makeit into reach, they are a viable option for any game after that.

Three-time legendary member on a single account

Halo: Reach should be a reboot of sorts for the series. For 5 games and 8 years we've done the arena shooter with the PG-13 feel and visuals. And while they were great, I feel as though the arcade, arena gameplay has seen its peak in Bungie games. A new direction in gameplay would revitalize the IP and give Bungie the real chance to give us something new. With this shift should come a visual change as well. That's not to say much of the humor and wit should be removed from the dialogue, but actions should have more brevity and weight to them, and a artistic change would help convey this shift. Brutes should be dangerous like in the WETA shorts and the ODST commercials. Guns should have real power to them instead of the 80s cartoonish feel they have now. I want guns that truly pop and feel as though they are deadly; something more real. I want elites to be terrifying, deadly warriors who use cover like actual soldiers rather than simply strafing left and right. I want grunts to be more than comedic fodder there to simply spit out goofy one-liners. I want gravity. I want a world that isn't bright and colorful. Jungles and open grasslands are great battlefields, but they are not supposed to be extremely green and pristine and clean. It's ok for them to be ugly and inhospitable; hell, it's better that way. And I especially want humans to look like humans. No more Halo 3-style, off-putting marionettes with dialogue. Give their faces actual texture this time, and nostrils!

GO look at the H2 brutes. They weren't too bad to fight and are a slightly underdeveloped version of what I meant. These ideas are stylised to a degree, because concepts are never exactly followed in games.

Shut your trap and leave it to bungie.

VERY Constructive. You make me a bit less happy to be a Kiwi, given how negative you are. You didn't even give a reason why I shouldn't post ideas.

Oh, and shutting my trap would imply TALKING. lrn2identifydifferencebetweensoundsandtext.

Grunts should have armour that actually looks plated on more, that sound more like how they were described in the books. They'd shuffle around and make a few less funny comments, with a slightly deeper pitch. They would be seen in situations OUTSIDE of standing behind an elite for no reason - maybe pre-defined animations for certain areas, like a grunt carrying a motion scanner or a couple scouting through some trees on their own.

Grunts are meant to make funny comments. Without their comments Halo would be much more boring their funny part of the games. Without grunts yelling funny comments Halo Reach would be too serious.
