it would be fun forging if instead of having built in maps you have to work off of there were three basic empty map spaces small (guardian size), medium (foundry size), and large ( sandtrap, valhalla, sandbox). and it would be like far cry 2's map editor. except there would be three stages in making a map:1 making the terrain( background would change for for each size but each size has its own background in default). a few examples of terrain control:be able to lower and raise ground to certain extents( kinda like in sims games), add trees(different sizes) add creeks and swamps. adding rocks, and stuff like that(use your imagination). 2 creating your bases, buildings, bridges, platforms, telephone poles( again this could be like the editor in the sims, sorry can't think of a better way to say it). 3 adding objects and weapons the forge we know. and if bungie wanted to still have some control add a budget to each stage please tell me what you think of my idea.

[Insert Catchy Phrase here]

I like this, cause the maps would be so unique.

Hi! <3

Far Cry 2 did it. I'm sure Halo 4 can.

I'm dying for some fully customizable maps. The game would literally never die.

  • 08.22.2009 7:25 AM PDT

Yeah, that would be perfect. First you create the environment your level would take place in. You can create hills, trees, water, etc.
Then you add in your buildings. If you can toggle collision on and off, it would make this step even better. Also, you can add in walls, doors, floors, etc or you can put down pre determined buildings.
After that, you would add in stuff like you can in Forge mode in Halo 3 (weapons, grenades, teleporters, vehicles, etc).
That's what you mean right?

so if you could make any maps you want.... what's the point of buying DLC? just play custom with friends, recreate DLC if you really want to play them, and that's it.

M$ wouldn't make money with a FC2 style editor... so they're never going to allow bungie to do such a thing.

  • 08.22.2009 10:19 AM PDT

This would be great for Machinima too. Instead of having to change your story because none of the maps fit your script, you can just make your own map. This is Bungie's last Halo game. Please, we need a map creator!

Ugh...

First on a BWU.. yeah, I'm cool.

ODST;MYTHIC Screenshot winner! One of the first to get their hands on the mythic map pack.

Keep dreaming :P

We might see some improvements, we might see none, we might not even see forge, we don't know, but I doubt Bungie will release something like a terrain editor.

Yeah, just like POKEY CLYDE said.

Not enough time to do it, and resources, but great idea =)

BOOM DEAD!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I think it's a good idea...........but Microsoft wants money from DLC and this would kill DLC's point..........and it would lag alot on maps with to much stuff.

I hunt for the Prophet of Contentment, the San 'Shyumm that murdered my son, and stole his birthright, his Energy Sword. They call our species Heretics. They claim to all that our tongues sting, our words a vile poison that feeds on the unworthy. I have seen the true face of Heresy. The head of a gallant warrior lay on the ground. His neck scorched and blistered, scarred by his own blade. I shall retrieve the weapon, and drive it through that bastard's heart! Punishment for his sins is nigh.

I would prefer something more like Doom Builder than Far Cry 2.

Fear my Pink Mist...

that would mabye work ... i like it

It would be cool if you could have the sizes like N+ (but in 3D). In N+ you have the option to choose how wide you want it, in each direction.

doombuild works because every rooms in DOOM looks like boxes with some furnitures/windows/ladders/whatever. the maps are incredibly basic compared to nowaday's standards, that's why it can't happen.

in recent games (recent... even Goldeneyes is recent enough to prove my point) rooms don't look like big boxes anymore.

How about snappable objects in a 90 degree angle? THAT would be a VAST improvement for Forge.

But I like this idea too, having a terrain editor, I'm just not sure it's possible, but you never know.

  • 08.22.2009 2:50 PM PDT

i like your idea as long as it does not get to complicated. i think that it would be cool to customize everything but if it gets to complicated forage will no longer be fun for everyone it will be to hard for some people and they would not want to do it. but if bungie can create an easy way to do all that i think it would be great.

i would also like to see a way to snap objects 90 or 180 degrees, to make everything straight and in line. i would also like to be able to copy the things u make. like if u make a base i would like to be able to copy it and put the copy on the other side of the map, so i dont have to make it again.

They could put a limit on it if they had to.

Didn't Bungie split from Microsoft? Anyways they could make it DLC and then they would make money for it. Plus it would give them all the time in the world for Bungie to make it work.

  • 08.29.2009 6:53 AM PDT

i think it wood be a excellent addition to halo

  • 08.29.2009 7:08 AM PDT

there needs to be like an auto snap on feature because it takes me a while just to get a wall standing up straight

oh and i like your ideas too

What if you had to buy this forge update?
