"People can have the Model T in any color they want, so long as it's black" - Henery Ford.

i know its sweet that we now have our first silenced wepons, but will it actually affect gameplay? if i start spraying away my smg at the covies at night from afar, will it be like the rest of halo where they know exactly where you are? or will they actualy be confused and scatter in fear?

It's on a lot of community maps. Affinity, Think Twice, Abridged...

I meant good maps

The weapons are suppressed, which means less noise than normal, so a better tactic is to go to one place, take down a grunt, then run over to somewhere else and do the same. Wash, rinse, repeat.

to the title question

  • 08.23.2009 7:38 AM PDT

If a man with multiple personalities threatens to kill himself does it turn into a hostage situation?

well since its silenced it will mean smaller range but it also means grunts running in fear screaming "the demon had babies oh no"

silenced does not mean less range, both in real life and the game. thats a myth that makes no sence if you understand how a gun works. but in truth, the game wont have that much realism in it (which is good). so the question still remains, will the covies still have thier super radar hacks?

I'll go with Buck from the Vidoc on this one.

"Brutes might see us coming, but only thing they're gonna hear is their asses hitting the ground."

  • 08.23.2009 8:29 AM PDT

Well near the end of the desperate measures ViDoc, the person playing shoots a grunt down and the Brute noticed the player pretty fast.

So I guess it doesn't actually mean anything.

Dom ~ Thread Killer

Not sure yet. Maybe if you kill an enemy while the others have their back turned, you will not be seen on their "hax rdar."

Obviously the Brute would notice; the player killed a Grunt right in front of the Brute.

It might be different if you are behind a Covenant patrol and shoot the last Grunt. The rest of the squad doesn't see it, so they might not notice until later.

Yes it does mean less range please don't try to seem smart it's painful to see people on bungie.net try to talk about guns

No it won't

I'm guessing that, if you spray at an entire pack of Covenant, one of them will find your position.

The point of a silenced weapon is that the enemies cannot hear you kill someone. They can still see you kill someone.

Silenced weapons are perfect for killing one or two enemies without alerting other nearby enemies with the sound of the shots.

Yeah he noticed, but somehow he knew where it came from too.Which is dumb, because there is no way he could've heard him, plus it was dark so it's not like he could see him,So I think the silencers are just there to look and sound cool for our benefit.

In Halo 3: ODST, silenced weapons may play more of a role than you think. Buck said, "Brutes might see us coming, but the only thing they're gonna hear is their asses on the ground." In my opinion, I believe that having the silenced weapons ensures you the first shot. The brutes wont know what hit em'. Aside from actual gameplay, having silenced weapons adds to the whole 'stay silent, you're alone' theme to the game. Besides, now's one of those times, it pays to be the strong, silent type.

So if you and your Brute buddies would be on patrol and one of you would fall with a bullet through his head, wouldn't you look towards where the bullet came from? It would be very easy to tell, given where the bullet hit the head/exited the head.

but we already have that to a extent in 3. in the room with the pissing brute you can kill all the sleeping grunts without alert the brute if you do it right.

  • 08.23.2009 9:44 AM PDT

-I was here

the silencer ensures you the first shot. obviously if you stand still they'll notice. the brute from the vidoc didn't find the rookie until after he killed all the grunts all though, he did notice thier death right away because the grunts were in front of him. notice however that the brute kept shooting after the rookie backed away, which means the brute probably only noticed where the bullets came from, not who was shooting them. so, after your shots are noticed, you move to a diferent spot and shoot more of the enemies.
