In the Halo: Reach trailer, a Spartan says:

"This is Sierra-259, you got Spartans on the ground sir. We're not going anywhere."
-SPARTAN-259

I was wondering if anyone on this board had any ideas on who those Spartans are and what we are going to doing when we play as them. Speculate away.

Also, would you rather play as Spartan-259 or Spartan-117?

i don't want play as a pelican

throwning snowballs at cars is like doing a bell ditch. The end result is basically the same: sprinting away from the large man exiting his car who yells profanities, hiding behind a house, and watching as his car patrols the street, waiting to murder you.

Asking the flood for dating advice is like you going up to a bunch of starving Africans and debating the pros and cons of the bacon roll vs the double cheeseburger.

Some one who stands for nothing shall fall for everything.

master chief would be nice but if we play as spartan 259 then they could add some extra story and that would be fun maybe he would see flood and then he dies u see wat i mean

Playing as the Chief and the Arbiter in Halo 2 was cool, but it was too much of a change in character for my liking (going back and forth between 2 very different characters).

However, I think that playing as 2 different characters from the same background (in this case, Spartans), would be very cool. It would feel like you're playing as the same character throughout the whole game, but you're not.

T|hat sounds really intresting, like there on opposite sides of the land (idk if they call that a country anymore!)

SPARTAN-259 since Halo: Reach may take part in the Battle of Reach in Spartan Team Beta's point of view.

Check out The Game Lounge

you forgot a both option

Just enjoy the damn game!
Who cares about BR vs AR

Guys, listen to caboose (ironically), he is saying that it is not definate that Sierra 259 is a Spartan. It could be, but only could, not anything more. Sierra has only been used twice for MC, and Sierra is the Nato-Phonetic Alphabet codeword for S. S could be used for anything. Scouts, Spartans, Snipers, Sgts, whatever.
It is likely that Sierra 259 is a Spartan, but caboose is only saying that there is a chance he might not be. OK?

And back on topic, I want a new character, but not necessarily 259, but definately a Spartan, and I wouldn't be too bothered if we played as MC either.

Except that after giving his callsign, Sierra 259 calls himself a Spartan.

You have Spartans on the ground. WE aren't going anywhere.

Well if you read Fall of Reach you would know that every Spartan II except John, Linda, James and the Gray Team were sent back to Reach to defend it. And since every Spartan II's number starts with "0" (i.e. Kelly-087) except for John-117 and Frederick-104. Sierra-259 is currently an unknown Spartan.
I believe Kurt was not called back either.

Chiefy talks...
No, but the reason that the chief rarely talks is to allow you to project yourself onto him, its a psychological technique employed in many games.

Hey. Pull my dongle.

Cmon, just one time, you big baby!

Both would be nice, but Master Chief has a 100% chance of not being in Reach, unless you're one of those who believe in the whole Master Chief went back in time thing.

It is my latest cultural research project! By randomly saying LOLWIN to semi-funny replies on the Halo 3 forum, I hypothesize that a temperary self-esteem boost will be present.

And once they read this, they will be a little worse off than before.

Master chief isn't "always referred to as spartan 117" Infact, it was only twice. And no other spartan has ever been called Sierra either.

Um. Sierra 259. He is clearly a Spartan. HE CALLS HIMSELF ONE. "Spartans on the ground. WE aren't going anywhere"..... Clearly he is referring to himself as one of those "Spartans on the ground". DUH.

'We' could refer to the military force itself, not just the spartans.

If that was the case, why would a random person call it in. Why not one of the Spartans? It could mean that, but the statement is very clearly referring to the Spartans. The whole planet was under attack. Clearly some of the military wouldn't have known the Spartans were there. So the statement was given over the radio. Sort of a "We're here to help." thing.

There's a 99% chance that they're not Spartans.

Nothing compared to almost everything that you've said.

Seriously though, why are a few of you so determined that he can't be a Spartan? Honestly, you're saying "This is Sierra 259. You've go Spartans on the ground, sir. We aren't going anywhere" doesn't even make it likely that he's a spartan. That sentence is only just short of complete evidence that he's a Spartan.

I'm not saying that i know for sure that he's a Spartan, but the trailer is quite obviously telling us he is. The only way he wouldn't be one is if Bungie just made the trailer and it has absolutely nothing to do with the game.

The only way it could make it more likely was if he said, "This is Spartan-259."
