Subject: Sierra-259 or Sierra-117? Which SPARTAN do you want to play in Reach?

Who at Bungie stated that Sierra 259 is a Spartan? It could be a Pelican pilot for all we know.

We've gone over this already. We are ASSUMING that he is a Spartan because of the wording (for example, a Pelican pilot would say that the Spartans are dropped - not on the ground) and because Sierra in the Halo games has previously been used to refer to Spartans. Could be wrong. I don't think so. Just roll with it. Would you rather play a new Spartan or MC?

The voice of reason...

"We have Spartans on the ground" does not imply that the speaker is a Spartan at all. I don't see how some people are automatically connecting this, but it is flawed. I will give you an example; if I am a marine on the battlefield and my commanding officer radios in to tell us to retreat, I could say "we have tanks on the battlefield" but that would not mean I am a tank, would it. Sierra can be used to refer to a Spartan, but it can also be sniper, special ops, or pilots. 259 isn't a classification code for any of the Spartan divisions.

I don't care who we play as. I just want to play as a character who actually talks.
Chiefy talks...
No, but the reason that the chief rarely talks is to allow you to project yourself onto him, its a psychological technique employed in many games.
I'm well aware as to why he doesn't talk, it doesn't mean I like it. I find silent protagonists to be very boring.

Beware the smiley face! =D

Both, but if i had to choose i would choose the Chief.

Sierra 259 is most likely a Spartan seeing as when they actually got to Reach they didnt have any standard marines with them. The other option I can think of is tha Sierra 259 is the call sign for the pelican that they used (before it crashed). Personally I hope it is the latter purely for canonic reasons, there was only 150 Spartan IIs.

In any case I would like to play as numerous different Spartans throughout the surface battle levels but not Master Chief unless the orbital station is one of the campaign missions...maybe even the last one?

You keep using that word. I do not think it means what you think it means.

I would want to play as the Masterchief for at least a little while. It wouldn't feel like a Halo game to me if there wasn't even a cameo.

What has taken you millenia to create, I erase in seconds.

As long as he's wearing MJOLNIR or HAYABUSA, I don't care who he is.

I think it should be played as master chief, Besides he is the main character bringing in a new spartan would just mess up the story.

According to Halopedia, after the events of Ghosts of Onyx, the Spartan-II program got new recruits that could have been ready to fight before the Battle of Reach. Besides, Bungie could always retcon a new group of Spartan-IIs in. It isn't like we know very much about the Halo Universe. They could even say that it was a secret program that occurred after GoO, and none of the characters we played as so far knew about it because they were off doing other things.

No, but the CO wouldn't have you telling him that you have tanks on the battlefield. He would call the tank drivers. Furthermore, they were given no order to retreat and Spartans work alone (unlike tanks).

Has anyone tired to determine if they are spartans from the shadows against the planet background. some of that looks like spartan armor to me.

Dude I don't care and my grammer is perfect.I used "Big", as you recall it to mak is specific."to not do...",is incorrect beause "do" is present tense/perfect(or future) when it was a past tense.

Obviously spartan-117. Who wouldn't want the campaign to last 15 minutes with one level?

  • 10.06.2009 6:56 AM PDT

i would like the legendary 117 thank you very much, but yes i want to see more spartans, end of the day all spartans are kick asss, so dont mind.
