Another two birds with one stone thread:

Since Reach is a full scaled battle between the UNSC and the Covenant, and since we all like a bit of realism i think adding weapon jamming to the mix. Real weapons jam (halo isn't real buuut...) and if you use a weapon too much without cleaning it the weapon will jam. I'm not saying there should be a twenty minute session between each level where you clean your rifle or something like that. Unjamming the weapon will of course would be an option.

Now I've heard speculation that Halo: Reach is going to be a squad based shooter. Now i think that as an equipment option instead of a radar jammer it should be a comm jammer, which would in turn disable your ability to give squad orders like defend that position or assault that one.

While that's a very interesting idea, I have to disagree. Halo has always been about intense combat, and jamming weapons or comm orders would break that Halo chain. Plus weapon jams didn't work in Far Cry 2,

A Communications jammer would add a lot of tactical gameplay into the game. I think it's a good idea. I however do not agree with Weapon jamming. I just don't think it would be a good idea.

Here’s what Luke had to say about the differences in treatment between the Spartans and Elites in Reach:

“Instead of piece-by-piece customization like the Spartans, Elite customization is a full model swap with models selected from the various Elite classes appearing throughout the Campaign. There are all kinds of reasons for this, not the least of which is our continued emphasis on the Spartan as your identity in Reach.”

I would like jamming included, but not as a random factor. Have the weapon jam if you hit the reload button twice or something, or when you are in a small radius around the Radar Jammer. And you would clear the jam by pressing the reload button again.

Communications should be scrambled near the Radar jammer. Not in a large radius, but maybe 10m around the physical unit.

Nah. That would ruin the fast paced nature of the gameplay. Furthermore, no one REALLY wants realism in gameplay. Seriously. I have done simulated warfighting for military training. It ain't fun.

It is an FPS. Not squad-based. Can't really add a whole lot of functionality to the controller and still maintain the ease of use of previous Halo games. Therefore, the comm jammer would be useless. Unless they use Natal, which would definitely be a reason for me to NOT buy it. Natal is far better suited to smaller minigames and purely voice controlled games like EndWar. I don't want to be jumping around and yelling things for hours as I play Halo multiplayer. (What will the system do when I start getting frustrated and yell expletives and derogatory comments? Also, what if I want to tell my friend that I "was almost gonna throw a grenade"? The system hears "throw a grenade" and -wham!- I just threw a random grenade at someone.....)
