They should make the filter an option turned on by default.

Heh. How many people do you think would activate it?

If you really wanted to get by the system, you could use numbers instead of letters.

I mean...you shouldn't do that...lol

Gimpy, don't be an idiot. Comparing the wiimote to the power glove is like comparing sex to dieing.

Actually I think the filter is awsome. Not that swearing offends me (on the contrary) but its just so much fun to guess what the -blam!- really means....

-blam!- you -blam!- -blam!- -blam!- breath.

On her elbows and knees from the time Bungie spent with her on that shag carpet. Ouch!

Okay, back on topic.

Censorship is always a thorny issue. Personally, I'd be worried about what the Halo 2 forums would generally look like lacking the filter. There's also a technical issue: I'm curious whether the filter works on the input side or the output side? If on the input side, then the censorship happens as posts get stuffed into the database. If on the output side, then adding an option to turn the filter on / off would add a bit of overhead to the post generation system; maybe not a lot, but generating pages would slow down as the page-spooler had to live-splice -blam!- where it belonged. Whether the slowdown is noticeable would be a testing issue.

If possible, I would love to have the filter as an option, if only to read a post, then toggle the blam option and read the post again; it's hilarious how a poster's apparent age drops by five or so years with four or five -blam!- added to their post. But lacking the option, I feel it better on than off.

I do find the lime-thing a little surprising though. If we could somehow petition (read: beg) to get that one yanked off the filter, it'd be a good thing.

Heh, I said "yanked." -blam!-

If I remember what Achronos said many moons ago, the filter operates on the input side; you type your post in, and the filter replaces the offending words before submission is completed. The alternative, using an output based filter that keeps the words intact until they're displayed is too resource heavy apparantly.
