I'd like to be half-man half-tree in an octopus' garden in the shade.

Looking at Halo 3, it's obvious that there are many underused weapons. Spikers, SMGs, Plasma Pistols, Plasma Rifles, etc. The reason why these aren't used is because when you can use a BR, those weapons are pointless. To fix this, why not make more mid-ranged weapons? If Halo is mostly mid-ranged combat, why are there so many short ranged weapons?

The spawning weapon could be a weapon in-between the Magnum and the BR in terms of strength and range. One weapon could be better at longer ranges that the BR, but it would be a bit weaker. Then, the BR would be stronger at medium ranges, but fixed so that it is not good at all for close or long-range combat.

Instead of allowing boring, one-weapon gameplay to plague Reach like it has in Halo 3, why not just add multiple mid-ranged weapons to split up gameplay a little?

I'd have to agree. I always thought about that - There are so many close-range weapons for what? Most of the time you're either too far away from someone or you'd rather just use a BR because it's more accurate at close ranges anyway. An easy fix would be to make the Pistol stronger, as well as making and the AR more accurate at longer distances. They could even try to add in the new ODST gun as another alternative (couldn't tell ya what it's called.) Those three plus the Carbine make for 5 Mid-Range weapons that could be used equally - where you wouldn't always want one over the other. Even better make it so on a small map I'd rather use say the AR, and on a medium sized map I'd like to use maybe the Pistol, and on a large map I'd opt for the BR. Just make it so every pro clip you see isn't going to be with the same weapon.

I worked up the wazzoo to balance out more mid ranged weapons.

But yes, I do agree. Most weapons are not used because they require you be within melee range in order to quickly get a kill.
