In my opinion Bungie dropped the ball on Halo 3. No offense to Bungie, but Halo 1 is still the best in the series. This could change though. What I mean is if this is their last halo game, they should make it the best one.

In order to do so Bungie needs to create 2 things-

1- An unparalleled Campaign (both story wise and gameplay wise).

2- A perfect (or near perfect) online experience.

Lets start with campaign. First of all Bungie really could make this story better than Halo 1-3, because of the fact that they could make it anything. I mean it wont be tied down to the flood, halo rings, or master chief. Next they need to make some gameplay improvements, let us drive pelicans, give us a free roam area like ODST, the gameplay possibilities are endless. Finally one last suggestion for campaign would be to fix the lag in online co-op.

On to multilayer. While having a great campaign is nice creating a perfect online portion of the game is necessary to keep people playing for a long time. First off, Bungie needs dedicated servers. These servers would create a nearly lagless environment to play in, which is essential for fun for casual players, and constancy for competitive players (they could even hold MLG tournaments online if they get good enough servers).

Next off, I think Bungie needs to go back to their roots in halo 1 and balance the game similar to the way it was balanced. I mean H1 is a perfect fps (besides the no online part) and if Reach can attain that perfection it will be the best in the series hands down.

Improve the constancy of weapons online, for example send every bullet in one BR spread in one packet so less shots are dropped online. I assure everyone will benefit from this, from people who just like to go around on a mongoose, to people on their 50 match.

Finally improve the ranking system/skill gap. In H2 a 50 was incredibly hard to get (most pros didn't have one). Most 50's these days are not even that good. I mean I usually get more challenge out of playing a team full of 45's than 50's.

That's all for now, flame are post your thoughts. These are just my opinions, i"m not trying to tell Bungie how to make their games.

agreed, although not many games on the 360 use servers, gears 1 did right? again the ranking is terrible compared to halo 2, im garbage and i got to 45 =P

i agree. i do think bungie should really make a great campaign but multiplayer if what i think they need to focus on. halo 2 got a major boost in sells because it was famous for its multiplayer and alot of people bought there 360s just to play halo 3 online (and to finish the fight! lol.) you would think a microsoft supported company who made one of the greatest games of all time and is known for the halo multiplayer would have the best servers possible

God is Lord

while I agree that Reach should be the best game in the series, I must point out that Bungie cant have complete freedom with the storyline. Reach is a prequal to the rest of the series. It tells the story of the fall of Reach. So if you want the storyline of Reach, read the book, "Halo the fall of Reach"

I declare Neap

Of course the Campaign needs to be good and Multiplayer good. You need some more specific points of what Bungie should do for Reach, because your criteria is very broad. I would say in 5 points:

1. ONLY 1 or 2 levels should involve some form of backtracking - has anyone else noticed that Sierra 117 and Tsavo Highway are the ONLY campaign levels that don't involve backtracking in some form? (The Storm and Floodgate go together)
2. More customisation in multiplayer (i.e. weapon selection, damage increments, etc.)
3. Improve Close Quarters Combat - restore AR to Halo: CE glory days (where it didn't feel and sound like a popcorn machine), scoped SMG, sword improvements (slightly less lunge, better registration), some Covenant shotgun weapon (Mauler is just pathetic), but most importantly, REDUCTION IN POWER OF MELEE'S!!! (will improve Close Quarters gameplay ten-fold)
4. Make Forge a full-blown map editor - use a vector-based system rather than a physics-based system
5. Improve on Theatre + Firefight

If Halo: Reach does that, it will be a fantastic game. Quote me on it.
