well yesterday i was playing on the Ark in halo 3...

i decided hey, i don't want to drive the warthog... i want to use the gun.... BAD IDEA!!!

first the marine driver would run away from the ghosts so i could not shoot them with the guass canon, he drove head on into some choppers, he would suddenly stop moving requiring me to get him out of the car and then getting back in. Then he would drive right into the beam of the scarab, when the scarab flipped over the warthog the marine would not get back in. Once bringing the scarab down to the ground the driver would not bring me to the back so i could shoot the reactor, eventually i gave up and attempted to land the warthog on top of the scarab. (yay)

i mean what the hell... this was probably the worst driver i have ever had

i would really like it if bungie could work to make the vehicle driver AI much better in Halo: Reach
(i don't believe i'm the only one who wants this)

i'm not really sure how they can improve it, because it seems like it would be hard to program because there are so many things that you could possibly do on a vehicle level...

i notice that the enemies seem to be better drivers than your allies, i don't know if they are on a programmed path or not... but if my allies could drive like them i would be much happier.

it seemed like drivers were better in halo 2... the Gauss hog part of metropolis was one of my favorite parts, the drivers were not perfect (they ran away from phantoms, would go back if you left one grunt alive) but they were better than they are in halo 3,

do you agree that the vehicle driver AI (or the AI in general) should be better for Halo: Reach?

Awesome isn’t just a word. Awesome is a way of life. Awesome is a way of war. Teamwork matters the most. Lone Wolves jeopardize the missions. Teamwork is key. Resistance is futile. The covenant fear us, not the other way around. We don’t fight for Earth. We don’t fight for Reach. We fight for the good of mankind because we are A.W.E.S.O.M.E. Alpha Wolf Elite Squadron Ordinary Mammals Electrocuted. Click the Homepage.

Yeah, ive noticed that too.I think its a good idea.

Die? Haven't you heard? Spartans never die.

Yeah, seriously. I've died so many times because the stupid marines cant aim, or because I've been driven off a cliff. If i had a nickel for every time I've been killed, well, I would own bungie.

I've got a solution. If your the gunner, the right thumbstick is used for aiming. Why not have the left thumbstick be a sort of guide for the AI driver. I mean, if your not touching it then the driver will do what the AI driver usually does, but if your pressing a particular direction, the driver will go in that direction.

Opposite could work if your in the driver seat. Right thumbstick would guide the gunner. Wait, forget that part. Its nice being able to pan around when your in the drivers seat.

Better AI. So they actually have tactics instead of running to their deaths

This probably wasn't implemented as either it would be hard to make/control or it would be horribly overpowered, like a ghost with a turret that could rotate around.

I disagree, seeing as they already implemented the same controls in the scorpion. Only difference here is that you have the option of leaving the driving to the AI. Wouldnt be overpowered, it would be like having a co-op game. You can tell the driver where to go.
