I think that the plasma weapons should be more powerfull for a couple of reasons.

In Halo 3 when you are firing a plasma weapon at someone the shields are the easy part to take down. When the shields are down it takes a LOT of shots to finish them off.

In the Halo Books the shields are the hard part to get by. After the shields were finally down it was an easy kill because the plasma simply burns through the armor and soon the skin. This is why the Covenent are so dificult to defeat. The humans didn't have shields (other than the spartans when they got their Mjolnir armor) so they needed to double or even triple the Covenent ships in the air or troops on the ground, and even then they would usually lose half of what they started with.

This would make gameplay much more intense and the Covenent more of the enemy they were ment to be.

Discuss!

Oh hi

If you want realism, I'd like to point out that the ability to fire plasma in hand-held weaponry is vastly more impressive than making weapons that pushes blunt stuff really fast. A plasma weapon is by and far more useful than a weapon of similar make. If there was a globule of plasma near your head (a miss that does nothing in Halo), it would sear your skin. In MJOLNIR armour, I suppose it reduces that to negligible effect. But a direct hit on MJOLNIR armour would realistically be severe, not wimpier than an SMG burst.

But they're not going for realism, they're going for game balance and interesting choices. You pick a plasma rifle to burst shields quickly, or an SMG to take them out as soon as you get around those nasty shields.

What I am saying really wouldn't change multiplayer gameplay much. It would just work almost the opposite as to what it does now.
Example:
In Halo 3 it is easy to take down their shields but hard to kill when the shilds are down.
In Halo Reach (using my idea) it would be hard to take down their shields but easy to kill them after the shields are down.

EDIT: Btw this is directed to Halo 2 Rookie's post.

This kid's 14th in Europe. Don't even bother calling me bad.

But, in the eyes of gameplay, people are used to plasma owning shields, so changing it would not be a good idea, even though it is more realistic.

problem is, nobody use plasma rifles or plasma pistol. so you have to make a change.

honestly, when was the last time you dual wielded plasma rifles? or killed ANYBODY with a plasma rifle?

I mean killing him with the rifle, not a beatdown.

you have 2 ranked PR kills and 8 social PR kills.
it's one of your less used weapon.... and it proves my point. nobody have PR kills.

(unlike me).

Yes I do agree on this but the gameplay would not change that much when you really look at it. In Halo 1 the Plasma Rifle was like a real rifle it would kill you fast and it work great for that gameplay. But when it got to Halo 2 they made it a Dual weapon that was ok some what it wasn't as strong as the on in Halo 1 but it still got the job done with out beating them down. But when it got to Halo 3 they made all the Covenant weapons super weak and lame. In Halo 1 and 2 you would pick up almost every weapon but when it came to Halo 3 all people really use is the BR and AR and Sniper Rifle. Yes you might find someone using the Mauler and the Needler but those aren't plasma at all. They are Covenant weapons but they really take no skill to use them. What I am trying to say is why are the Human weapons stronger then the Covenant weapons shouldn't it be just the opposite or make them a little bit closer then what they are now.

What I think might be a little cool if they made a Covenant weapon like the Plasma Rifle in Perfect Dark Zero but with out the Camo on it and throwing your body across the map. That would give the Covenant players a new weapon and it would be strong like its suppose to be plus it would make it a little bit even to as well. Because the humans have the BR and the AR that's two good weapons but the Covenant has only a Carbine for a Rifle that its to weak to compare to the BR or AR so it sucks to plus they do have a the Sentinel Beam but that sweat and strong weapon is never in matchmaking except in one custom made map so you really never see it and the Fuel Rod Gun another Plasma type weapon but you never see that in matchmaking for some stupid reason yes its one of the strongest weapons but they won't add it in any game for matchmaking. But they put the Rocket Launch and Spartan Laser ( Human Weapons ) in there but not a weapon that's weaker them both of them. So Bungie please give us a new strong weapon for the Covenant side to use for Halo: Reach Multiplayer in Matchmaking.

If you want to get killed really fast by plasma weapons in halo reach, play it on legendary when it comes out. then you will die.

"Everything works itself out. The only thing that matters is whether you want it to or not."

Last Refuge - Operation Phoenix is in effect. From the ashes, we will rise.

I have to agree with you on that one, but it would be incredibly imbalanced. Basically all of the UNSC weapons would pale in comparison to Plasma Weapons, and there would be no use of them in Multiplayer games, so they balance it out by having Plasma Weapons be much more effective against shields, which is quite realistic seeing as Plasma has a strong effect against energy and the like, and to make it not as strong when coming to actually killing somebody. It all balances out, but I think that the behaviors of the Covenant races and making them harder, more strategic foes would make them into the fighting force you want.
