The attack range of a Energy Stave would be the same as a energy sword lunge, as for size, it can be shortened.

However, the Energy Stave can also be made into a sweet armor perm.

My old Bungie.net account was created February 6, 2008. Unfortunately, I had signed up using my brother's email account (we then shared an Xbox Live account which was linked to my old Bungie.net account), and he changed the password, meaning I couldn't log in. Thus is why I have this account.

Elite Katana?

Why not? It angers me that spartans get a ton of armor perms, plus a katana in halo 3, yet elites get half as many perms, plus no honor guard pike, and most of the armor perms elites get don't even compare to the incredible honor guard armor, or even the heretic armor in halo 2.

I think the knife's already been taken by other games, and it would be nice to have a change. A simple hardcore fist punch.

  • 08.29.2009 9:36 AM PDT

What the hell are spartan gloves? Are they like green hulk hands? or maybe green sockem boppers?

Humans dont need a melee weapon. The UNSC have enough intelligence to know that standard marines shouldnt get into hand to hand combat with Elites or brutes. Combat knives are for stealth and as a last resort. Nobody in their right mind would see an elite runnning at them with an enegy sword and think "Better pull out my knife", they would empty a clip in the -blam!- and run away. Id like a knife but purely for esthetic reasons. It woulnt take up one of your weapon slots cus you always have it. And yes i see the similarity to COD dont bother pointing that out.

  • 08.29.2009 11:14 AM PDT

Instead of making a whole new weapon:

When a spartan that has a Katana picks up an energy sword, instead of using the energy sword, he/she pulls out the Katana. The Katana would have the same properties.

For Elites, they have a similar chest piece that involves the Honor guard staff. Same thing as with the Katana.

I personally think the Katana doesnt fit in the halo universe even though it is only for multiplayer. You might as well stick a quiver of arrows on a Spartans back.

  • 08.29.2009 11:23 AM PDT

-blam!- Was that actually blammed out? Or did I just type it? You'll never know.

Dude, imagine. Some guy runs out of ammo and theres a Katana on his back. Say you run out of ammo for both guns then press x for katana. He then reaches on his back pulls Katana, then lunges and slices you in half( Not actually in half though)

Depends what sort of armour we have. If the characters even had Kevlar body armor, the sword would be useless. There's a reason why wars are fought with guns now.

It's all crazy, It's all false, It's all a dream, It's alright

What about the machette?
that would fit nicely into the halo universe.
Same goes for the combat knife, a way to balance it with a energy sword is to give it lots of lunge, give it like 2 meter lunge, but because it is not as powerful as the energy sword, make you have to aim for the enemy's head for a one shot (or stab) kill, & 3 for body.

I get what people are saying about a marine wielding a knife wouldn't go up to a elite with a sword,
So how about making it a Spartan only weapon?

I think a human melee weapon would be great for halo, i don't see why people are shunning the idea.

i just thought of something.
How about putting the katana in but make it look more military & less Japanese, i mean the katana was the greatest sword ever invented, how do we know we won't be using advanced military ones in the future?

I think that since there has been the katana as a show we should be able to hack people in half over live. My personal opinion and personal best.

Who cares about BR vs AR

Surely, due to the Spartans great strength, and the toughness of the armour, a Sword, such as the Katana, would just snap on impact.

Its called the shotgun

How is a shotgun the counter to an energy sword? The energy sword is a melee weapon, and the shotgun is a gun.

The shotgun is a melee ranged weapon.

I'll explain: There are four ranges of combat in Halo 3. Long, Medium, Close, and Melee. Weapons are designed for a specific range but can be adapted to other ranges at a disadvantage.

Melee ranged weapons have two attributes: They kill in one hit, and they have a mechanism to "catch up" to people fighting in close range.

The Sword, has a lunge.
The Hammer, has a short lunge, and a gravity well.
The Shotgun does less damage at close range but it can add up as you get closer.

You may not be physically beating people over their heads to get kills with it, but for all intents and purpouses, it is the Human Melee ranged weapon.

Unlike elites and brutes, marines aren't strong enough to utilize a sword or a knife or whatever to have killing strength, so instead they use a gun that had lethal melee range power. It makes perfect sense.

Spartans have no need for a katana, knife, machete, whatever, because they are so strong it doesn't matter whether they are punching with the butt of their gun or slicing with a knife. The bruteshot melee isn't a one hit kill, so why do you think these weapons would be one hit kills?

So, to answer your question simply, how is the shotgun the counter to an energy sword? Blast them as they lunge. Its pretty simple.

It probly would but if youve done any research real katanas are as shard and as thin as paper the katana would just go right through the person.(no offense)

Shall we look at the facts?

A melee from a spartan with his fists on an unshielded opponent kills them instantly.
A melee from a spartan with a katana on an unshielded opponent kills them instantly.

Advantage bladed weapon? Nope.

A melee from a spartan with his fists on a shielded opponent kills their shields.
A melee from a spartan with a bruteshot on a shielded opponent kills their shields.
Therefore we can assume that a melee from a spartan with a katana on a shielded opponent kills their shields.

Advantage bladed weapon? Nope.

So, which would you choose? A sword that kills in two melee hits, or a gun that kills in two melee hits that can also shoot bullets.

Once again, the Shotgun is the Human Melee ranged Weapon.

It is my latest cultural research project! By randomly saying LOLWIN to semi-funny replies on the Halo 3 forum, I hypothesize that a temperary self-esteem boost will be present.

And once they read this, they will be a little worse off than before.

NONONONONONON! OMG! That would be awesome, combos. Generatex i know we talked bout combos. You have to press like rt when a brute come a you with a hammer. You the go into a cutscene with buttons popping up on the screen like this. Scene= press x, you evade hammer smash next press a, you jump on his back and snap the brutes neck. That would a real spartan would do.

Well, they already have a game like that, I'll give you a hint, it should never be halo. It would be cool with NATAL though.

Surely over 500 years of time, superhard materials could be discovered that were capable of hacking a supersoldier in half.

Take a piece of metal, and slash it with a sword. You will scratch it.

Take the same piece of metal, and hit it straight on with massive force. You will dent it, perhaps puncture it.

But if you stabbed the piece of metal with a sword, you will either:
a) Drive the blade straight through the metal (unlikely, but if the metal was hard enough, it could be possible)
b) Snap the blade, due to the strength of the metal plate, and the force you are stabbing with.
