If you're not going to take the time to read the entire OP, don't bother replying. Keep It Clean.
WARNING! THERE IS NO OASIS BETWEEN HERE AND THE END OF THIS WALL OF TEXT!
Ok, I think we can all be sure that Halo: Reach is going to be the First-Person Shooter we're used to. And even though this probably won't happen, what if after this game, Bungie made an RPG about the story of Reach. Please Chupanebre, tell us more! Ok.
You see, we could start the game as a child. A harmless little child. As a child, which wouldn't hopefully be for too long, we choose our name, our strengths and perks (Fallout 3 much?), and whether we want to be a Marine/ODST, Captain, or Spartan etc. in the UNSC Navy when we grow up. I'm guessing the latter would be most popular the first time around.
Ok, we're over the kid stuff. Now we're a noisy teenager training in the UNSC to be our desired class of choice. During training, which would hopefully be for a reasonably lengthy part of the game, we complete obstacle courses, training exercises, drills, and we try to get past that angry sergeant annoying us every morning.
Ok, now we're over the teenager stuff. We're big boys now, and we've got guns. Now you'll start partaking in real UNSC operations against pirates and bad guys with rocket launchers. The operations you get assigned to depend on the training exercises you went well in, the ones you didn't, your best strengths and your weakest. Using this technique would mean that during your first play through of the game, you would miss out on at least a few operations that were temporarlily available. This would mean more replay-ability, to add on to the already 3 different storylines.
After awhile (Surprise) The Covenant come knocking on your doorstep, and you're not going to give up humanity without a fight. The difficulty gets a kick in the behind here, as now you'll be fighting futuristic aliens... with rocket launchers. From now on you'll partake in various operations against the Covenant, again making sure you miss at least a few possible operations.
Then reasonably late in the game, the Covenant come knocking on Reach's doorstep. They muddy the mat, break down the door, and you're pretty sure they don't like coffee over at the neighbours. Again, you're not going down without a fight. You partake in operations in the air and on the ground, fighting for humanity's survival. And, according to what operations you're assigned to, and how well you do in them, decides if Reach survives or not. In the end, Reach either gets glassed, or in an alternate ending, you save Reach and beat back the bad guys with rocket launchers. Finally.
I'm open for more suggestions and criticism.
=)
