Episode Two: Lost In Space - Part Two - Bruised, boarded, and bombed
John came to a metal wall, and braced himself on it. From here, he had a clear view of the hangar door, where the boarding party would arrive. A moment later, Kelly pulled beside the Spartan, followed by a complement of ODSTs, all out of breath.
John aimed down his sights with the BR55 he'd grabbed from the armory on his way to the hangar, awaiting for the doors to be blown. Minutes passed, and, finally, the doors were being cut.
Campbell wiped away fresh sweat from his brow, (he wasn't wearing a helmet, due to the rush) and blinked his brown eyes. Within seconds, a huge explosion shook the hangar, and the doors flew open. Blue plasma-- not lead-- was fired from the smoke, hitting an ODST in the chest. He yelled in pain, then flopped to the floor, dead.
"What the hell!" Campbell yelled as a response to the Covenant weapons.
John had expected Covenant to come through the doors, but Insurrectionists did, armed with Covenant arsenal. Years ago, the Innies had a helluva lot of Covenant weapons on their hands, in an Innie civilization known as the Rubble. It hadn't been atempted since.
The Spartan Leader fired a few bursts, as they hit their mark with precise aim. He got into cover as plasma sprayed the wall he hid behind, melting the metal.
Kelly dove out into the open, equipped with duel M7's. She rolled, ran with extreme speed towards an Innie, snapped his neck, then used his body as a meat shield while she fired both of the SMG's off at her targets. The hit four men, sending them falling towards the ground, either dead or severely injured.
John pulled away from cover, too, punching an Innie squre in the jaw. He heard a sickening snap as the mans neck was bent in a way it wasn't meant to. The ODSTs shrugged, and advanced on the enemy, too, feeling invulnerable with the Spartan at their side.
John and Kelly went back to back, dodging, ducking, and evading superheated plasma as it skimmed by them, all while stealing the lives of the Innies as they did so. While John was reloading, one Innie got a good aim on him, and sprayed his torso full of plasma. He gasped in pain, withdrew his sidearm, and got a perfect headshot.
The remaining Innies ran for it, planning to take off in their boarding craft. That is until Kelly sprinted after them, taking out the stragglers.
After the battle, the ODSTs gathered the twenty-two corpses of the Innies, and the one corpse of their fallen soldier, and placed them in seperate corners of the hangar. Every single kill-- except two which went to Campbell-- belonged to the Spartans. The Helljumper's couldn't help but to marvel at their work.
"Sir?" Campbell asked John, as the tall Spartan examined the black arks which covered his MJOLNIR armor.
"Yes?" 117 replied.
"We should sweep the boarding craft. Innies are known for planting bombs on them, then blowing us to hell with our pants down."
The Spartan nodded. "Good thinking."
Campbell whistled, and two ODSTs rushed over. He gave them orders to search the boarding craft, they nodded, and ran for the hangar doors and onto the Innie ship.
Kelly went by John's side. "Where the hell did they get Covenant weapons?"
John looked towards her. "I don't know, the Insurrectionists aren't organized enough to have killed the Covenant for them. I think they're working together."
"Working together?" Kelly asked, doubting her fellow Spartan's statement.
He nodded. "Yes, they did whenever the Rubble incident occured... why not now?"
Kelly processed that question, but didn't get to answer. Just before she did, the boarding ship exploded, enveloping the hangar in fire.
