What I was thinking is maybe this game will explain how Buck was able to survive the Fall of Reach, seeing as only a Prowler and the Pillar of Autumn escaped Reach.

Because he is played by Nathan Fillion. [/sarcasm]

Glassing a planet doesn't kill everything and everyone. That's why MC went back after Halo: CE (in the book First Strike) to look for survivors. Also, it is entirely possible that he was on a ship that you didn't know about from the books. Not all the fleeing ships are named.

This man, this man right here put it so eloquently that I actually cancelled my own 2000+ word long post.
/slow clap for respect

The person who said participating is important, not winning, obviously never won anything.

Erm.... yeah, that's actually exactly what it does. In the books, they make that painfully clear. It is a super-precise process that doesn't leave even centimeters of the planet unscathed. The land becomes boiling glass and fire storms. Anyone who survives the bombardment (unheard of, but hypothetical) is just going to die very shortly after from dehydration, burns, and possibly suffocation in an area where the oxygen has been burned away. Chief returned to Reach with illogical hope; a leader's hope. Even he knew that.

It'd be nice to learn of Buck's escape from Reach. It wouldn't surprise me if he was exfiltrated on a Prowler we didn't know of. ONI always has one more eye on the situation than you would think.
